  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

Radiohead was in the latest issue of NME. Here's the transcript from atease:

Studio Update: Radiohead 'Obsessed With Disco'

Colin Greenwood spills the beans on how the new album is going plus Reading and Leeds plans.

After revealing that Radiohead started work on their new album in Oxfordshire with long-time producer Nigel Godrich last month, bassist Colin Greenwood gave a first glimpse at what the follow up to 'In Rainbows' will sound like. Greenwood who last month gave a talk at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, told NME that he had been "obsessed" with disco classics and techno/house artists as well as old soul classics.

"I became obsessed with four to the floor [rhythms], [techno DJ/musician] Moodymann and disco" he explained. "I've found out that on the internet you can subscribe without paying for it via DJ ? like Scandinavian disco. I tried some and got sent a load of old ?, we've been checking out stuff on 14tracks.com. They're this company that distribute electronic music. A friend of mine at ? worked there. They recommend 14 ? tracks or 14 great German tunes."

He ? (concluded?) that although his music taste was getting an electronic revamp the band hadn't yet settled on a sound for the album. "It's early days and it's like making a scrap book," he said . "It's all up in the air but it's good in a way because we just try something and we work on it then we move on to something else and look back afterward. We're now beginning to work."

He was also full of praise for Godrich, saying that despite having produced every album since 1997's 'OK Computer', the band weren't tempted to freshen up with a new face behind the mixing desk. "He's brilliant," Greenwood laughed. "He can make everything sound like it's working together rather than us trying to kill each other."

When asked if fans could expect to hear some fruits of the album sessions at the band's headline slot at the Reading and Leeds festivals in August, Greenwood hinted that it was a possibility. "We'll be playing stuff from our latest record and other stuff too I hope," he smiled. "We will come across stronger, more so than when we played in London a year ago [at Victoria Park]. It will be more reflective of what we've been doing when we've been playing in other countries [on a recent South American jaunt with Kraftwerk].

"We picked Reading and Leeds because the line-up looked really good and it just seemed exciting to do it on a Sunday night slot before bank holiday Monday," he added. "The fact we're sharing the beill with Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon [was also a reason]."

sounds interesting

At their Club Ciudad show in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 24 the band along side Kraftwerk and others sold a total of 33 177 tickets out of the 35 500 available. The total revenue was $US2,296,317.

:uhoh:

how many times have you seen Radiohead and where?

5 times.. 3 times in toronto, 1 in california (coachella), 1 in germany

and i am not in love with in rainbows but what can you do... it seems my disappointment with Nude and Videotape will never fade.

edit: but its not as bad as when i first heard X&Y - that was a heartbreaking moment

cool! is your disappointment in Nude and Videotape because they didn't turn out to sound like the 97 version of Nude (Big Ideas [Don't Get Any]), and the 2006 full band version of videotape?

i know he plays piano in the studio version of Videotape but it doesn't have that same, yearning feel (don't know how to explain it??).. or at least that is how i felt when i saw them during 2006 tour... and yes i miss the glockenspiel (old version of nude).. you know when a song is sooo heartbreakingly sad yet beautiful at the same time?? that is no longer there, at least not to me! but they are still my fav. band :D :D :D

yeah i see what you mean. you should check out devilhood. he's like redone some radiohead songs, w/ like acoustic versions of songs, like big ideas. So like there was originally a live version of thom doing big ideas on acoustic and he added all the other instruments. it's i think the closest thing you'll get to a studio version of big ideas... unless they decide to do a anthology or something :P

thanks!! yeah ive been complaining a lot and someone on this board linked me to this guy who cleaned up the old live mp3s.., not sure if it's the same artist though..

anyway, i think In Rainbows is a better made album overall, but there are certain songs in albums like The Bends and Ok Computer which mean so much more to me and I would take those few songs over IR any day. But that could also be because I have certain memories/feelings attached to those songs..

what is your fav. album? i like HTTT more than IR.

yeah i see what you mean. My favorite album is actually In Rainbows...haha! I mean I became a fan late in 2006, and I remember listening to the live 2006 songs over and over. When the album came out I think that I was overall disappointed because I was expecting to sound a lot like the 2006 live versions, but there were some variations. However I listened to the album more and more, and honestly I don't think there's an album that I've listened to more (Perhaps Abbey Road, but it might have surpassed that).

right now im seeing MEETING PEOPLE IS EASY documentry and its very interesting

A festival called Cinema City is taking place here next week, and they're going to play that! I hope I can go see it.

Radiohead are shit, overrated and boring. Shame that because Jonny Greenwood's a really talented guy. Other than him they are student crap for toffs who don't like other people's opinions. Arrogant twats.

program howyousawtheworld;

end.

OMG the program doesn't want to compile! I wonder why!!! :stunned:

So you're in the band, too?

Nice one.

I like this picture.

 @ all the silly fights!

Anyway, from Coldplay.com's Oracle today:

June 3, 2009 - submitted by Liam, United Kingdom

Q. I've heard Coldplay were inspired by Radiohead's album OK Computer. And I was just wondering if Coldplay were fans of Radiohead's post OK Computer music, given the large change in direction.

The Oracle replies:

They remain fans of Radiohead and see their change of direction as strokes of genius. They started their career in awe of the band and to be honest, that's probably still the case.

Chris Martin is such an idiot. A complete arrogant twat. Moron.

^ Awww, Milica!

Long time no see. :D

Good to hear about that festival, hope you can go & see them.

I think IR is one of those albums that sound better live, in a concert setting .. one of my fav. concert momentss was when they were playing Arpeggi live in an outdoor venue and it was pouring rain and really cloudy and dark and the atmosphere was incredible.. whereas I enjoy listening to songs like Fake Plastic Trees alone with my headphones on, in private

@ The Oracle: 'that's probably the case' ??? excuse me that IS the case

Huh!

She said "that's probably still the case".

Learn how to read before you let your fake ego out again sweetie!

They DO acknowledge Radiohead's influence on their music.

Well I didn't know people here would be so eager to pick apart my posts for saying something of such little significance. You'd think a typical forum reader would just overlook it or naturally think it as being harmless.

Anyway, off-topic, so moving on..

Just for the record I viewed the original comment funny and harmless.

I just wanted an excuse to use a :P

But like you said, moving on. You post here much? See you joined in 06.
