Radiohead

Featured Replies

yes, i think this time that Pitchfork guy got the point right. the power + amount of Radiohead fans is huge...worldwide.

just 2 questions which don't need answers:

how did Kid A manage to become no.1 in US in it's first week without any promos and singles?

or

how did The Eraser beat Muse's BH&R in overall worldwide chat? (Muse had a single + video and several promo gigs before the release including an MTV concert...Thom released no singles, no videos and he had no commercial concerts)

  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

ooh! ur so damn right!! radiohead is just the best!! :D :P :)

have to go! it was nice to talk to you nik! byee!!!

I believe The Eraser reached the first place mostly because Radiofans were waiting for a new album for a long time and they still wait so it's like a small advance for people. Besides, Radiohead (Means Thom Yorke) has more fans than Muse does so no surprises. And of course, there's something mystical in the whole Thomas Edward solo project.

^^^ i agree with that.....i love what radiohead do,therefore love what thom yorke does,so would buy the album no doubt to get an album i enjoy because well....if i like radiohead,i am most likely to like the eraser too...right? and it hasent dissapointed i like the eraser too.

@ Rad-Cold it was nice to talk to you too, see ya later ;)

i think the main reason why Radiohead have such a huge fanbase (besides music) is their style. Radiohead created their own style, undoubtfully. rejecting the popularity and stopping creating huge succeses like The Bends and OK Computer was the main key to the legends status.

i think Dave Matthews said after he bought HTTT or Amnesiac that "i always buy a Radiohead record and waiting that they will finally mess it up...and i'm still waiting, because they didn't this time either. this album is brilliant"

i kinda agree. whatever Radiohead does, in which music style (pop, rock, electronic, jazz)...it's always terrific to me. pure quality what is very rare nowadays.

i can't think of any band who would be as talented as Radiohead, only The Beatles.

and a little wikipedia about the next generation:

Members of Radiohead have not made many comments on the issue; it seems clear that the band isn't particularly keen on the new generation of Britpop musicians: when asked in 2001 by MTV, "How do you guys feel about the fact that bands like Muse, Travis and Coldplay are making a career sounding exactly like your records did in 1997?", Yorke criticised Muse's singer/songwriter Matt Bellamy for what he felt was an attempt to directly imitate him. Of the others he has replied simply: "Good luck with Kid A."

being "uncool" and doesn't give a fuck on popularity - that's why i like Radiohead

bands like Muse, Coldplay, Strokes fell into this problem. although it seems they enjoy their pop status.

i read an interview with Thom some years ago and he was asked about groups like Coldplay, Muse or Strokes.

his answer was simple:

" I really worry about other people like Coldplay and the Strokes, 'cause the sort of success they've had really screws with your head. It's like, what do you do next?"

Agree with most of it but i dont think radiohead is the only talented band besides the beatles, sigur ros is one of a kind and love them with a passion cos they are even a bit more experimental than radiohead in my opinion ;)

hahaha i was thinking about Sigur Ros when i wrote that. but no

Sigur Ros' music isn't that complicated, it's actually very simple compared to Radiohead's. of course they are talented as many other bands and their music is brilliant, but let's be honest Sigur's music is simple

don't get me wrong, if i would "cheat" on Radiohead i would do it with Sigur Ros, because only Radiohead is more worthful for me than SR ;)

Agreed. And one more thing I like about Radiohead and especially Thomas Edward is that people almost don't know anything about their private life, families and all. I mean, look at Chris Martin. I'm not gonna say something bad about him here, in RH thread on a Coldplay board, but that's not a secret he's always open for journalists, pictures of his wife and children are always in newspapers and on TV. He's like proud of it. Another thing about Thom and Radiohead in general. All we can read about them is anyhow music related, it's all about their songs and talent. They do their job and don't waste time for speaking in front of cameras.

Fair enough ;) I dont know i just find something unique in sigur that any other band has ( maybe that's why thom yorke himself is a sigur fan) their songs sound more 'natural' to call it in a way while radiohead songs are more elaborated and electronic ( from kid a on i mean) . I remember an interview from 97' when thom said he'd love to make electronic music and fusion that with what he was doing at that time so no surprises when kid a came out though that seriously splitted radiohead fans, the old school radiohead fans and the new ones who only heard their electronic kid a era...gotta confess i hated kid a at first cos it wasnt anything like that from their previous albums but after a long while i found it brilliant, it was just so different though i still miss their acoustic moments with simple guitars and no electronic tracks involved :(

after listening several times to their albums i think:

Kid A + Amnesiac (it had a potentiality to be the best Radiohead album, Amnesiac's Morning Bell just fucked it up) > The Bends + OK Computer

you know, sometimes i miss the old acoustic RH, but i don't think they could make better recordings than those in the past. but you know there's a lot of "old RH" unreleased tracks like True Love Waits, Last Flowers or Lift. so we can always hope

and Sigur Ros! oh man, i saw them live in June  i cried during Vaka  Jonsi did as well

You saw sigur live? you lucky bastard! :o

They sound waaaaaaay better live, somehow their songs are even more touching live.

And yeah we can always hope like they're finally gonna record big ideas aka nude in their new album, always loved that song but i wonder if they're gonna make an acoustic recording of it or mix it a bit with some electronic jam hmm in any case, i'm gonna love it anyway

Oh yeah True Love waits is an awesome acoustic track. Don't forget about Gagging Order too! Old Radiohead's still there, you've just gotta look for it. :D

Still, I'm all for new Radiohead. It took about 8 months, but I have come to adore Hail to the Thief. Brilliant album.

As for Amnesiac's Morning Bell, Nik, I don't think it screwed it up as much as Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors. I can't even listen to that track. Not that Morning Bell's much better, but I think both are pretty big blemishes in the midst of a fantastic record.

Of the others he has replied simply: "Good luck with Kid A."

I think Coldplay may even be trying that, they have haid 3 albums and they say they are moving to a new era of their music and I remember Guy saying something like: "We are not going to become completely electronic but we are moving in that direction a bit more."

And I needed an excuse to use my new scanner (never had one before  and actually we've had it a few months but I've only used it about once). So this was in an Australian mag (JMag), it's pretty pointless because there is like 3 sentences but they still gave The Eraser a very nice rating.

And Nik, you'll be happy to know that the same mag gave Black Holes and Revelations 3.5/5 :nice:

Pink Floyd

thanks for scans Sam

Mo, yeah they are talented and i like them, but don't compare them to Beatles. though i really like Pink Floyd :P

Jake, Pulk/Pull isn't brilliant either but beats Amnesiac/Morning Bell easily with it's originality. i can think of 3-4 Amnesiac b-sides which easily could replace that Morning Bell version

I agree that the Amnesiac Morning Bell sorta sucks, it sorta stops the flow of the album. Why did they decide to redo it on Amnesiac in the first place?

Other than that Amnesiac has one of the best track orders ever.

Both were recorded at the same time, so it's not really a redo; more like twins... but one's really messed up. lol

I agree on order. Packt is an excellent opener, Like Spinning Plates & Glass House are excellent finishers. The middle is great, aside from those tracks I mentioned before. So many good songs, and it's not a "you must listen to the whole thing to understand it" album like Kid A, more like "check out this song, you'll like it." :)

*raises hand* :uhoh:

Brand spanky new Radiohead fan over here.

I've shocked myself! :stunned:

DL'd 3albums so far...I cant get enough! Incredible stuff.

Isn't it great that so many years after they've been around, Radiohead keep getting responses like this from people all the time?!! :shocked2:

I would have been telling the exact same story one year ago! And it's a typical RH story in this thread - finally discovering Radiohead after years and years and not getting enough of them. Once the understanding comes, it all comes in a rush... there's no stopping it. I couldn't handle Radiohead for the longest time, but once I 'got' them, I was totally floored.

It's a good thing though that they've been around for quite awhile and have so much material that's all very diverse as well... I would've died if I had to wait for their new album and worry over all the break-up rumours after listening to something as amazing as the Bends. So hats off to all who've been fans since the start and have still managed to keep sane :D

I know radiohead not even a year..but when i heard karma police i fell in love with radiohead

and now ive got all songs and ive been to a concert :D

I never heard of radiohead before..i didnt know one song of them before and none of my friends knows radiohead.

I'd heard of them for a long time, but it was thanks to Fifa 2004 that I 'got into them'

Uh :uhoh2:

I actually have always liked RH and all, but I only had Kid A so I couldn't appreciate them for real. And about a month ago... Hmm... Something happened haha. I really don't know what happened to me but my music preferences changed so fast. I don't even remember how it all happened, but suddenly I'm addicted to Radiohead and I'm really feeling like this craziness's only growing with progression :anxious:

Pretty weird when you know the band for such a long time, hear some songs here, some songs there and after all this time your head comes off and you don't need anything except more, more, more Radiohead.

But if we're talking about the reasons I think... Maybe I ran crazy because of Elliott Smith? Haha I know it sounds silly but my RH passion began after I've listened to two Elliott's albums. He somehow made me want to listen to RH.

And now I don't recognize myself, seriously.

That's EXACTLY like me!!! :nice: It's so cool to read other people have had the same sort of experience. :)
