  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

My parents do as long as I pay them back.

It's been four complete days since I've listened to no Radiohead stuff at all (following someone's idea I read here, I won't listen to Radiohead till next wednesday).

Three days without them : it's harder than it seems.

Oh man, I've come close to breaking and listening to them. My friend took my mp3 player away from me so I wouldn't listen to OK Computer.

Radiohead to sign record deal, CD out in January

Posted on October 4th, 2007.

Radiohead managers Chris Hufford and Bryce Edge were interviewed at BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today‘ this morning, confirming a record deal for Radiohead’s new album ‘In Rainbows‘ will be signed within the next 7 days.

Chris Hufford said that the band are close to signing a record deal: “Ultimately, the band feel that this record, which they are incredibly proud of, deserves to be brought into the mass marketplace. That’s why we need a record company who have that infrastructure to deliver the CD. We’ve got about seven days to get it organised.”

Does this current plan, with consumers setting the price make any financial sense?

Chris Hufford: “It’s just another way of doing things and hopefully it will initiate artists and record labels to think about things a lot more and not just accept the status quo.”

Bryce Edge also said that the band had faith people would not just download the album for free: “We might come out looking very foolish. We’re prepared to take a risk. If your music is great, people will then pay for it. One of the big mistake record companies have made is prosecuting students and kids for doing what we did years ago: taping music. It’s nonsense.” Hufford added: “The wonderful thing is that the consumer can decide how much a download is worth. I’m not sure how much just a digital download is worth. I’m not sure 79p at iTunes is the right price. We cannot control the price when the cd comes out in the shops in January. The market controls the price.”

Regarding the £40 price for the DISCBOX edition of ‘In Rainbows’, Hutton said: “£40 is huge value for money. It costs a lot of money to make. How many drinks do you get for £40. how many football matches can you see for £40.”

Thanks for the info DreamOutLoud ;)

January 2008 it is then!

Radiohead outplays industry

ONE of the world's biggest bands catapulted the recording industry into a bold new era this week, potentially ending the reign of powerful record companies.

Visit the Radiohead site

UK rockers Radiohead announced their decision to virtually give away their new album online and while they are not the first band to side-step their record label to deal directly with their audience, they are arguably the biggest.

"Record companies who once had it all, they are in the position now where suddenly they don't have it all anymore," said Andrew Phillips, who represents Britain's powerful Radio 4 network at this week's Big Sound Summit in Brisbane.

"The rich fat man can only be rich for so long, and now only the record companies that change will survive."

In the past, labels controlled everything from production to distribution and marketing.

Now an artist can record a professional-sounding album from a makeshift bedroom studio and slap it on MySpace.com or YouTube.com for instant worldwide distribution.

And audiences, no longer dictated to by blanket marketing campaigns, now have the luxury of hand-picking exactly who and what they want to listen to.

"I think it's great," said Nic Harcourt, music director at influential Los Angeles radio station KCRW, who has been dubbed "the most influential DJ in America".

Since arriving in the US 19 years ago, Harcourt has championed one-time unknowns such as Coldplay and Dido.

"The fascinating thing is that while the music industry is obviously in trouble – and it's never going to go back to the way it was – creatively for artists and consumer there has never been a more exciting time," he said.

Record sales revenue has now become an incidental bonus – like icing on the cake. Artists now eke their living out of touring and merchandise and, if they're lucky, a commercial licensing deal for TV, film or a video game.

But, Harcourt warned, the new cyber-trail to fame and riches was not a one-way street.

"Artists, too, are going to have to change some of their expectations because the days of having one big album are gone," he said.

When I go to pre-order the pages stops at "you are currently in a queue".

The 10th October will be the day the World Wide Web crashes

That is what I am afraid of. I still haven't pre-ordered anything yet.

How come you both still haven't? It hasn't been working since then?

I don't really like radiohead but I'll listen the album anyway so I preordered it

You just said that for votes!

Well i will vote for you :nice:

That is what I am afraid of. I still haven't pre-ordered anything yet.

Let's say 1 million people have pre-ordered the download via both methods, come Wednesday those million people will be spread across the world ready to download the file. If the site crashed when people went to pre-order the records, than what will it be like when those people come to download the album?

They will have one massive bandwidth bill.

Maybe they'll give priority based on how much you pay.

Maybe the people who bought the discbox will get priority. (I hope)

You just said that for votes!

Well i will vote for you :nice:

not really...

I preordered because it was free.. and still.. I don't like radiohead..I just like 1 song :uhoh: .. maybe I could find another song in next album who knows.. and well.. if it's bad.. I didn't pay anything for it so It's ok :P

Industry: Radiohead will sign with ATO or Warner

Now it’s clear that Radiohead’s release of new album ‘In Rainbows’ will not only be available at InRainbows.com, but also a physical release on a record label, rumours have been floating around on which label Radiohead will sign to.
