July 21, 201115 yr does we still assume tasks depending on if we are female/male? shall it change? please no fights. sorry if there's already a topic about that subject.
July 21, 201115 yr I'm afraid the thread title doesn't make any sense. Please explain what you mean, and I will probably be able to suggest a better one.;)
July 21, 201115 yr Author I'm afraid the thread title doesn't make any sense. Please explain what you mean, and I will probably be able to suggest a better one.;) which other title would explain better? i meant to refer to: generally society has accepted some tasks are done only by women or men just for their genre and so is associated to their role in society. as women generally are the ones to do the dialy housework: cleaning, cooking, ironing. where men do other occasional works as related with garden and furniture. (which generally here is associated as a 'machista' view of life, and sorry may be that's why i couldn't think of a proper title for the subject, since seems that 'machista' concept isn't the same in english speaking society). here comes the debate at times and still studies shown on the media use to show the old standard is yet the main one.
July 21, 201115 yr which other title would explain better? Does sexism/ do gender stereotypes still exist in today's society?
July 21, 201115 yr Does sexism/ do gender stereotypes still exist in today's society? Couldn't have put it any better myself. That works fine. And yes, it most definitely does.:dozey:
July 21, 201115 yr I definitely wouldn't make a good housewife. I once had to clean the shop windows at work and it took me forever and they actually looked worse than before. My manager had a go at me because apparently, a woman my age is supposed to be good at cleaning. :dozey: My housemate really annoys me because he always leaves the housework to his girlfriend. He doesn't do any cooking or cleaning, he wouldn't even wash his own dishes. I could never go out with a guy like him.
July 21, 201115 yr It exists. It's not that rampant, but it's kind of more acceptable to be sexist than it is to be racist, in my opinion.
July 21, 201115 yr My dad always made me take the pink toothbrush when he bought toothbrushes in packs of four because I was the only girl in the family, even though I wanted the blue one. So sexist!
July 21, 201115 yr Oh yeah, it definitely exists. All the proof you need is right here in my house. No, seriously. My dad once admitted to me that he was harder on me than my brothers on purpose. :|
July 21, 201115 yr Surgeons make it harder for female residents wanting to be surgeons too, such ****s.
July 21, 201115 yr Still exists all right, boys always make the sandwich jokes at school. My dad always seems to ask me to wash up/hoover/make him a coffee rather than my brother then he always asks 'are you sure you can carry that?' with a half full bucket of milk.
July 21, 201115 yr Yeah, I hear kitchen/sandwich jokes basically every practice. Same, my brother always tells me to go make him a sandwich. :|
July 21, 201115 yr I never do anything for my brother anyway <3 I think he actually does more for me.
July 21, 201115 yr Lory did you make this thread? no and not interest and conserne me, not life with other men sexists. and if I put his hand on this man with all his gallant ways. *Oh .... man you still attentive to a woman the dexterity of a pure sound impressive * [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnAp8ZLoMcc&feature=related]Say You're Sorry (ATFM Session) - Mew - YouTube[/ame]
July 21, 201115 yr Maybe it's rather radical to say this but for me sexism already starts when the man (and most of the time the woman too) just automatically assume that the woman takes the man's last name after the wedding because, you know, she's the woman after all.
July 21, 201115 yr With all the people bringing up sandwich jokes... I really find no humor in them. Whenever my dad tells me to make him a sandwich, he literally expects me to make him a sandwich, and because I know I will suffer consequences if I don't, I end up doing so. :|
July 21, 201115 yr It's only with the house work among my siblings in our house. My brother is fourteen in less than a month and he is only starting to help me a small bit with the clean up. But when he does it of course he expects to get pocket money for it, which my sister and I never got growing up. My parents never expect him to do anything, but it could be because he's the youngest? I remember emptying the dishwasher and not being able to put away the glasses because I couldn't reach the higher cupboard (which is now just above eye level). So either I was really young or just really short  or both.
July 21, 201115 yr That could be a factor, too, as far as your brother goes. My baby brother gets away with everything.
July 22, 201115 yr I definitely wouldn't make a good housewife. I once had What about a "Desperate Scousewife"?:P
July 22, 201115 yr yes sexism does exist! it is everywhere in the media and on the streets! why do women smile at me whenever i say i d be the perfect housekeeper?
July 22, 201115 yr yes sexism does exist! it is everywhere in the media and on the streets! why do women smile at me whenever i say i d be the perfect housekeeper? Because they can't imagine you in an apron?:P
