Does sexism still exist in today's society?

Featured Replies

does we still assume tasks depending on if we are female/male?

shall it change?

please no fights.

sorry if there's already a topic about that subject.

I'm afraid the thread title doesn't make any sense. Please explain what you mean, and I will probably be able to suggest a better one.;)

Lory did you make this thread?

which other title would explain better?

i meant to refer to:

generally society has accepted some tasks are done only by women or men just for their genre and so is associated to their role in society.

as women generally are the ones to do the dialy housework: cleaning, cooking, ironing.

where men do other occasional works as related with garden and furniture.

(which generally here is associated as a 'machista' view of life, and sorry may be that's why i couldn't think of a proper title for the subject, since seems that 'machista' concept isn't the same in english speaking society).

here comes the debate at times and still studies shown on the media use to show the old standard is yet the main one.

Does sexism/ do gender stereotypes still exist in today's society?

Does sexism/ do gender stereotypes still exist in today's society?

Couldn't have put it any better myself. That works fine.

And yes, it most definitely does.:dozey:

I sometimes say make me a sandvich for fun, but I treat girls better.

I definitely wouldn't make a good housewife. I once had to clean the shop windows at work and it took me forever and they actually looked worse than before. My manager had a go at me because apparently, a woman my age is supposed to be good at cleaning. :dozey:

My housemate really annoys me because he always leaves the housework to his girlfriend. He doesn't do any cooking or cleaning, he wouldn't even wash his own dishes. I could never go out with a guy like him.

It exists. It's not that rampant, but it's kind of more acceptable to be sexist than it is to be racist, in my opinion.

My dad always made me take the pink toothbrush when he bought toothbrushes in packs of four because I was the only girl in the family, even though I wanted the blue one. So sexist!

Oh yeah, it definitely exists. All the proof you need is right here in my house.

No, seriously. My dad once admitted to me that he was harder on me than my brothers on purpose. :|

Still exists all right, boys always make the sandwich jokes at school.

My dad always seems to ask me to wash up/hoover/make him a coffee rather than my brother then he always asks 'are you sure you can carry that?' with a half full bucket of milk.

Yeah, I hear kitchen/sandwich jokes basically every practice.

Same, my brother always tells me to go make him a sandwich. :|

*Oh .... man you still attentive to a woman the dexterity of a pure sound impressive *

Maybe it's rather radical to say this but for me sexism already starts when the man (and most of the time the woman too) just automatically assume that the woman takes the man's last name after the wedding because, you know, she's the woman after all.

With all the people bringing up sandwich jokes... I really find no humor in them. Whenever my dad tells me to make him a sandwich, he literally expects me to make him a sandwich, and because I know I will suffer consequences if I don't, I end up doing so. :|

It's only with the house work among my siblings in our house. My brother is fourteen in less than a month and he is only starting to help me a small bit with the clean up. But when he does it of course he expects to get pocket money for it, which my sister and I never got growing up. My parents never expect him to do anything, but it could be because he's the youngest?

I remember emptying the dishwasher and not being able to put away the glasses because I couldn't reach the higher cupboard (which is now just above eye level).

So either I was really young or just really short  or both.

That could be a factor, too, as far as your brother goes. My baby brother gets away with everything.

I definitely wouldn't make a good housewife. I once had
