What score will Pitchfork give Coldplay?

^Agreed. If I see a two digit number, I'm just going to look at that. What is the point of reading 1000 words of gibberish if I know if they are going to like it or not. Part of why I don't do any form of scoring on my reviews.

Pitchfork got rid of the number system on their playlist, they should follow suit with their album reviews.

Everybody is biased. We're human beings. A critic's job isn't to be perfectly objective; music isn't objective to begin with. So I resent when people complain about scores they don't agree with by calling a critic "biased." It's meaningless. Critics are paid to articulate their opinions and analyses. You don't have to agree with them.

Besides, everyone knows Weezer is absolutely terrible now :p

Green Album was okay, but let's be honest - everything after has been kind of a joke. :laugh3: Their best song in the past decade is a State Farm jingle.

2nd album rerelease instantly gets a 10/10?

Make believe is at WORST a 5. And as for green? Red is where it's at.

They're not a consistent band, but there are some real gems, even now. You either love them and take what you get, or hate them.

This is totally off-topic... all I meant is, if pitchfork have given Coldplay bad scores before... (and they're pretty average), they'll most likely do it again, it's a personal thing, yeah, but in such a way that not likeing something by a band initially means you'll put down the rest of their future work? That IS pretty biased.

Coldplay is too mainstream for Pitchfork.

And that's what I'm saying.. I don't agree with them. I form my own opinion and don't let what other people say affect them music I listen to, or the movies I like or the video games I play, etc...

I think Pithcfork ratings are the most reliable. NME and RS ratings are random and they have a preocupant lack of "vision". But that doesn't mean that I always agree with Pitchfork. Since they are so indie-alternative-arty I think they give fair enough ratings to Coldplay albums. The VLV 6.9 it's a pretty good mark for a pop album. But this time I feel like they are giving MX a very low mark, since Coldplay are "less cool". And although I feel like the album it's going to have a lot of pop great songs, I also think that it's going to be their less arty album.

You guys know that they gave Kanye's MBDTF a 10 and his new collab with Jay-Z an 8.5, right? They're not anti-mainstream, they're just not big on Coldplay. I don't see why this is front-page newsworthy. They have different taste than most sites. That doesn't make them pretentious.

Yeah they aren't anti-mainstream. People saying that have no idea what they are talking about.

Drake - Thank Me Later - 8.4 http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14367-thank-me-later/

Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster - 7.8 http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13823-the-fame-monster/

Beyonce - 4 - 8.0 http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15585-4/

The aforementioned Kanye West & Jay Z album as well as Kanye's 2010 album.

So if I hear you say they don't like mainstream music I am going to make a sweeping assumption that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

I wish I was around at the start of this thread.

FUCK PITCHFORK. PRETENTIOUS BLOGGING ****S.

This is the reason why I hate them. Lady Gaga a fucking 7.8? Really? Fuck blogs.

I don't see why this is front-page newsworthy.
It's an article rather than a news item, different topic. Stimulates discussion, good to write about. And your comments are now on it :)

20 people voted 9.1-10.0? Those 20 people have never heard of Pitchfork before. :laugh3:

For the record, guys, Pitchfork is actually less tough on Coldplay than they are on a lot of other "mainstream" acts. Pitchfork actually bothers to run stories on them, though possibly because they know they have a lot of crossover appeal to their main reader audience too. They're harsh in general. I'm pretty sure that 10.0 they gave Kanye West is their first since Wilco in 2001.

They named the "Life in Technicolor ii" video one of the best videos of 2009. Doesn't seem very anti-Coldplay to me.

Also, just look at some of the compliments in the Viva review:

Strawberry Swing: "Blissful nostalgia permeates 'Strawberry Swing' so thoroughly it's impossible to deny its 'perfect day'"

Lost: "a uniquely alluring smash and live staple for years to come"

Violet Hill: "honest-to-God Scary Monsters* mutant funk"

*Scary Monsters is a critically regarded David Bowie album.

It's true. You have to give them some substance if they are going to enjoy it. I'm glad they were harsh on MIA and didn't just like it for the sake of liking it.

Clocks also made onto their best-songs-of-the-decade list. Plus, they describe Don't Panic, Shiver and The Scientist as great songs.

I really don't care what Pitchfork thinks. I find their reviews so predictable. I swear they are more interested in demonstrating how ultra-cool they are than providing reasonable critiques. I don't need someone else to tell me whether I should like something or not, whether something is "good" or "crap". I can make up my own mind. I listen, I decide.

Haha :laugh3: Exactly!!

If you're cool, you may as well let non cool people know it. That's what I do.

I had a dream last night that Sarah Palin was rating MX.

Now that's some scary stuff.
