^I think those people are wishful thinking/COLDPLAYISPERFECT10ALWAYSEVERYWHERE people.... i said 5.1-6.0 based on the previous scores they've given. They gave Viva a decent score. I don't see them being any kinder to CP though.

Biased fans? No way!!!! I think the bell curve of our results shows that 9.1-10.0 is an outlier. The 5.1-6.0 seems to be the consensus.

Thinking between a 6 and a 7 again. I'm more of a fan of "mainstream indie" than I am alternative rock nowadays anyways, and I can say that "Major Minus" seems a step in the right direction. It's less preachy and less sappy than most Coldplay stuff. Chris Martin sounds positively dangerous and exciting, in the vain of "Spies," "Violet Hill," and "Twisted Logic."

Also, the news that Jonny's guitar is going to be featured more seems to go in Coldplay's favor, 'cause as they've put down their guitars in lieu of keyboards, their music has gotten at times a bit stale and far more mainstream-y sounding than representative of their full potential; hence why "Violet Hill" absolutely trumps much of Coldplay's more traditional stuff.

In any case, it doesn't really matter too much what rating Pitchfork's gonna give them. Pitchfork doesn't have much patience for radio-friendly rock, that's just how they are, and their rating certainly shouldn't decrease anyone's enjoyment for the album. I know it won't decrease mine.

But I still think MX has album of the year potential.

Clearly biased fans here to give the album a 9.1-10.

I mean if Pitchfork hasn't given the band anything higher than a like 6.9... why would you think they'd give it a 10.

Many times I feel a lot of people just give the ratings they think the album will be to them.

In general bands/artists that get a nearly 10 rating is rare, and it's not something that is or should be given out lightly.

Yeah it loses it's value if it is just handed out like mormon pamphlets.

YO guys time to bump this - since their review is gonna be published this week.

I'm not a mormon but you should never call someone stupid because of their religion.

What should we call people stupid for?

Sorry, those people voting 9.0-10.0 have no idea what Pitchfork is, do they?

Just for perspective, Pitchfork has given a total of 5 reviews above 9.0 this year. I can 100% guarantee Mylo Xyloto will not be the 6th.

Why do you love reviews so much?

Well, Mama always said stupid is what stupid does. That's all I have to say about that.

Lets be real : this thing is getting 4.8 or below.

It will be less than Viva La Vida, in fact i'm surprised VLV got the rating it did (in a good way). I'd pitch it between 5.1 and 7.0, but leaning closer to the former.

Upon hearing Mylo Xyloto Pitchfork will reward it with it's first and only 11.0, promptly shut down the site, and start it back up again a week later as a Dr. Who fan blog. The internet will never be the same again...

Speaking of horrible reviews, you guys should read this one:

http://www.dailycal.org/2011/10/23/coldplay-mylo-xyloto/

According to Kanwalroop Singh (WTF?), MX is the same as every Coldplay album. "Mylo Xyloto is not that much different from the albums of Coldplay’s past and not that much better, if at all."

Sounds like somebody has never heard of Coldplay.

Well, Mama always said stupid is what stupid does. That's all I have to say about that.

Well, MY Mama always said that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say nuttin' at all.

That's all I have to say about that. ;)

I had my thoughts before the album. Although I think it really depends on how whoever reviews it wants to approach it.

Here's the thing we all have to remember about Coldplay - being the biggest band in the world means nearly EVERYONE is going to review your albums. This means people who would never give your music a chance in a million years will review it. It also means people who would lick your sick off the ground will review it.

At the end of the day, you can't take too much stock in reviews because so far I've not read a single one that didn't have a bent to it one way or another. People delegitimize their reviews when they offer some general slap at Coldplay for xyz reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pitchfork just took that road and slapped a shitty number on it and got to make fun of the band for a little while. At the same time, I think they might want to seem "cool" (in that way where you are one step ahead of all the other cool people who give it a crap rating) and give it a relatively good rating. If you think that King of Limbs got 7.8, I wouldn't be surprised if it got 7.

But I also wouldn't be surprised if it got a 4.3...so yeah.
