The Trouble of creating a good setlist

It's hard when you consider they would be cutting some great songs, but easy when you consider they have a large library of songs to choose from. What i'm trying to say is no matter what they do, there will always be a guy in a forum complaining about something....

It's not too difficult, just be sure to leave off any songs that have "teardrop" and "waterfall" in the same title.

That would be a shame in my honest opinion.

So, you can see that there will be always some people who aren't satisfied with the setlist. ;)

The whole point of doing a new tour is to promote their new album. That means they'll play a large number of songs from MX rather than old songs. There's no way they'll leave The Scientist, Yellow, Viva La Vida and Fix You off the setlist. They'll probably leave the new version of GPASUYF in too.

This is a good point but it is a Mylo Xyloto Tour so if classics like Yellow, Fix You, Viva La Vida have to miss out then so be it, they are all played at every other appearance anyway and it will be nice for the band to do something different other than the same old formula!!

I am pretty sure they knew what songs to include. The big question was in what order, whether that was going to be a happy or sad ending. I am happy the guys put so much thought in the track list and its order. I really appreciate it when I listen, as then I am more inclined to listen to the whole album in one go from start to finish

I was waiting until the track list got announced to make a proper set list but I think this is what they might play. But of course not in this order

Yellow

In my place

The Scientist

Clocks

God put a smile upon your face

Fix You

Viva La Vida

Lost

Life in Technicolor II

Lovers in Japan

Strawberry Swing

Paradise

Every teardrop is a Waterfall

Hurts like heaven

Charlie Brown

Us against the world

Mylo Xyloto

Major Minus

Up in Flames

UFO

UP WITH THE BIRDS

Don't let it break your heart

Princess of China

A hopeful transmission

M.M.I.X

It's 25 songs, that's the amount they played during the viva la vida tour including encores.

I don't think they'll play LiTII, and probably not Strawberry Swing, but other than that, I think this seems pretty reasonable.

I know this is a crazy idea... But why don't they try mixing their set lists up for once?? Like keep HLH for the opener and leave Teardrop as the closer (I know Chris loves it in that spot) and keep certain songs in, but why not have a few slots that they can play around with? Throw Sparks, Green Eyes, Warning Sign, A Message, Swallowed In The Sea, Lovers In Japan, Chinese Sleep Chant and maybe even older songs in to make every concert unique. They should play the hits for the average concert goer but not every song they play has to be a #1 hit single.. they have an incredible back catalogue and they should use it!!

I guess it comes down to two things.

1- They are going to play the songs they like playing best live and those that fit within the setlist

2- I think they don´t want to disappoint any audience and want to offer the big hits to every concert goer, so that everyone gets the same experience of the best Coldplay has to offer

That said, I do agree with you: their back catalogue is incredible!
