to all the "real fans"

Featured Replies

DISCLAIMER : I originally posted this on the Paradise part of the forums since all the recent senseless bashing has been their, but I feel its more appropriate here.

I understand at this point it is quite impossible to persuade anyone, but i've literally had to log into this account (which I rarely log into and made quite some time ago, usually browse the forums as a guest) to post because I would have been anxious all day.

Been a literal massive fan of this band for years now, been to multiple shows as have alot of you.

The people who are complaining to no end about the direction of MX need to stop acting like such pretentious assholes who swear they're these mega fans that have been listening to Coldplay "before they decided to go mainstream and put Rihanna on a record"

First things first, Coldplay has been a massive mainstream success since Yellow came out, if they never put that song out, this forum would not exist.

At this point in time the band is even more massive, when they first started out 10 years ago their sound was very stripped down, because they were a brand new band and didn't have the resources like they do now. This is quite obvious if you look at the lineage of the band and the albums. The sound CLEARLY matures. Parachutes was super stripped down, AROBTTH was definitely a louder album with them showing more tricks off, X&Y was the first time they really started experimenting with synth and such, and Viva la Vida was as close to a stadium rock / pop album as they had gotten to at that point.

For those wishing they would go back to the "good ole days" the "Parachutes / AROBTTH days" your dreaming. Thank god they aren't. The albums were fantastic, some of my favorites and the content was clearly from a group of young kids who hadn't figured much of the world out yet and had nothing lose. I do NOT want a couple of 33 year old millionaires married to Gwyneth Paltrow writing a Parachutes. And for those who cry "no we dont wan't that, we just dont like this!" your either lying, or not giving them a chance.

The path they are taking is no mistake, they are trying to adapt to a larger audience, one day this band is going to be performing mega stadium concerts and they need the ammo. For crying out loud U2 is one of Chris Martins main influence and look at the path that band has taken, so why does this surprise you?

A good amount of you will say then that they aren't making music for the real fans or the old fans anymore then, these are a bunch of grown men with a job, with a different life then they had when they wrote every other album, every album evolves and keeps up with them, accept it. If you don't like the, feel free not to listen, you wont be alone.

Congratulations to the boys on finishing the album, i'm more then excited to see what they have came up with this time!

P.S. I'm not to fond of Rihanna being on a Coldplay album either, but like I said, they have the resources to do so now and it will DEFINITELY open them up to a wider audience which is great for them, maybe not for you because it makes you feel like they're alienating you the real coldplay fan but your really no more then the average fan who believes they were put on this earth to cater directly to you and to be secret favorite band, and your personal identity instead of their own

Quite obviously not if i'm supporting Coldplay on a site called coldplaying.com.

But good try

tl;dr

your just a hater

How is any of what he said hateful at all? I know it hurts you to read, but maybe you should try it.

What I find comical is that you all refer to those who prefer Parachutes/AROBTTH as the "true fans." Wouldn't the true fans be a little more sheepish, wanking over Paradise just as much as ETIAW and conducting in one-on-all combat versus any and all stupid haters?

We're not real Coldplay fans. Hell at this point, we're hardly even Coldplay fans at all. A forum is built for discussion, not blind love. I'd rather live my life with no arms and no legs than blindly follow any band the way some of you do. A gram is better than a damn, I suppose. Enjoy your superficial world state, I guess. If they're only doing their job, then they could at least do a good job of it. They're businessmen and market strategizers; I don't want to consider myself an artist a minute of my life if they belittle the title as much as they do. I can write better songs than Paradise. You could probably write a song better than Paradise. Chris Martin certainly can, but he would rather settle for mediocrity. I'm not going to stare at the hypnoflow for all too long, I'm finished. Wake me up when MX drops like a deuce, I'll be enjoying fine new releases by Feist, James Blake, Wilco, and others in the meantime. Those new Drake songs surfaced, I think I'll get to those tonight.

tl;dr:

STOP DISSING COLDPLAY EVERYTHING THEY DO IS AMAZING DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT HAVING AN OPINION

Oh my god people. Get a grip.

stare into the hypnoflow and all you're troubles will soon be gone

thumbs up if you listen to the best thing thats come out of Britin since The Beetles XD

I love how I'm getting flamed for telling everyone to 'blindly' love them, I'm not at all, read my post.

Point is they release a couple songs that aren't on par with your ridiculous standards and all the sudden your all driven too "oh god I might have to give up on them guys, I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO GIVE UP ON COLDPLAY :("

EDIT : I never claimed anyone who prefers the first two albums to be "true fans", I just feel like a large group of them label themselves as the old loyal fans who are pissy about Paradise

Ridiculous standards? My standards for Coldplay are set as high as I've heard them play- so basically, I expect their music to be as good as their past songs have been.

And they're not even close to the quality of their old music. THAT is what bothers me. We've seen Coldplay release some excellent music (Parachutes and AROBTTH era) and ever since the beginning they've been going downhill.

I probably will give up on Coldplay because if their music sucks they don't give me any reason to keep buying their albums.

Oh my god. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But I don't think anyone wants 'The Scientist V2, or AROBTTH Part 2 or whatever. We just want quality music. The kind of quality music Coldplay used to have.

dp, this forum is so laggy right now

CLEARLY[/color][/u][/i][/b] matures.

MTM sounds more mature, but...

ETIAW? Paradise? If you and I were standing in front of each other, could you look at me in the eye and with a straight face say that you honestly believe those sound more mature than virtually all of their prior work to this point?

Downhill? VLV and Prospekts March were downhill? surely your kidding, your literally sound like the same people I am mentioning that are yearning for a The Scientist v2.

Yes, they are. Compare THE QUALITY of the music from Sparks to Lost+. You have to be joking if you say you don't see what I mean.

And I DON'T WANT AROBTTH V2 OH MY GOD. IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR GOOD MUSIC?

agree with this too

if repetitiveness and boring pop is maturity, than sure MX songs are mature. . .

The music this band makes today is a far stretch from the brand that brought us here to begin with. As fans, each and every person here has the right to be mad (or happy) about new material. The problem we have here is that Coldplay HAVE "alienated" their longer term fans. Coldplay can in fact go in any direction they want and produce whatever they want, that's what's great about Western society, but don't sit there and tell me I'm wrong for frowning on it. The truth is that Coldplay have been slipping for two albums now. They are "evolving' or whatever the fuck that is suppose to mean. They are dragging their feet, and they try and sell this shit to me through the Coldplay messenger and email updates. Their inspiration has slipped. The emotion no longer guides their songwriting. It's unfortunate.

EDIT: One other thing..what used to be a strong point of their music, the lyrics, has really become on par with the use of crappy electronic pseudo-instruments.

On the bright side for the band, these tracks will get a lot of TOP 40 airplay. (now that I think of it though, I've hardly heard ETIAW on the radio at all)

I completely agree. And I first heard Coldplay in 2009 (so I'm a fan from the VLV era) and I STILL think that Coldplay has been losing their touch.

I want to win that ACL contest so bad. I want to bring Chris Martin and Brian Eno to tears. Or waterfalls, even better. I could bring him my songbook and then they'd have a good six months worth of LP6 finished, maybe even dipping into LP7.

Then all they need is Spanish Rain, Famous Old Painters, and Wedding Bells. Right guise?

thank you dude, This is exactly what im trying to get at, but everyone wont listen, They just say it's shit
