If I had any chance of talking to Coldplay I wouldn't waste that opportunity to dwell on the negatives right off the bat. I'm not a dick, sorry. There are too many things I love that they have done that eclipse my distaste over a measly few songs.

Well, to flip the other side of the coin, neither is coming up to a complete stranger and criticizing them.

I'd have no problem telling them I think the first two singles suck.

This is funny, I thought about the topic of this thread just this morning.

 

Yes I'd say to them what I don't like about the new song, in a polite way, about how they're too many effects, annoying PARA's that are the only thing that I remember from this song and not a nice melody and all that stuff.

That's basically how the whole new sucky LP happened I presume. It's funny how when we need the whole band to listen to the criticisms towards their shitty new material they just shoved them off, but when they were once producing amazing stuffs they took every criticism they received to the bone.

I definitely wouldn't bring out the topic myself but if asked I would certainly tell them I don't like it.... Probably using the same technique as others, sugar coating it by listing them the new songs I love :wacky:

Hmmm. If they didn't directly ask me, "so what do you think about the new stuff", I probably wouldn't say anything. If they did ask me point blank, I imagine the conversation would go something like this:

 

 

Them: So what do you think about the new stuff?

 

Me: Some of it I like, some of it I don't really care for.

 

Them: Oh really? What is it that you don't like?

 

Me: *cringes as if to express that I'm no trying to hurt their feelings* Honestly I was a bit disappointed when I heard ETIAW. I know with the festivals there needed to be something catchy and easy to sing and jump up and down to, but I don't think it was very first-new-era-single-after-a-long-time-in-the-studio-worthy. Even though overall I don't like it, I appreciate Jonny's presence in the song. And I do like the last, oh, minute of the song.

 

Them: We planned to use it as the closer for the festivals, so we did want people to hear it far enough in advance.

 

Me: Yeah, I get that. But, I do like some of the other songs. MM is cool, and Charlie Brown seems like the MX era's equivalent of Yellow/Clocks/Fix You/Viva. Personally I think one of those should have been the next single instead of Paradise. And I absolutely adore MTM. It's brilliant. To me it almost starts out with a Billie Holiday vibe, then early-80s soft rock, then a Pink Floyd feel at the end. If you hear someone say that you would think there's no way that could work, but you guys made it flow so well, it's awesome.

 

Them: Glad you like MTM! So, you don't think Paradise should have been the next single?
