The Drums: 'Kings Of Leon should split up'

Featured Replies

The Drums frontman Jonathan Pierce has urged Kings Of Leon to split up.

The singer said the Followills should call it a day after spending time in their company after recently supporting them.

"I would advise them to split up and stop making music," he said. "I don't think they're really helping anybody - they've never made a song that's really touched me in any way. I honestly think that the new Britney Spears record is better than their songs - it sounds like a really great pop song and that's what I really like."

Pierce also slammed their chart topping single 'Sex On Fire' and said bassist Jared Followill doesn't enjoy being in the band.

"They're very American bar rock and it's not interesting, it doesn't affect me at all. That 'Sex On Fire' song is one of the worst songs I've heard in my life.

Pierce added: "I do have to say that Jared was a very kind man and he's smarter than he's letting on. I don't think he really enjoys the music that Kings Of Leon are putting out. I've had long conversations with him and he's very open to me. He has really great taste in music and likes really great bands - I think he looks at Kings of Leon and it's just a job that he has.

"I think that's a really sad place to be - going through the motions. To misrepresent yourself in a creative atmosphere seems a little dark to me."

I find this highly ironic, given that The Drums don't really interest me with their music.

I hate KOL with every fiber of my being, but their whole set of issues is something that other bands should really mind their own business about. I'm neutral toward The Drums - saw them live once and thought they were okay - but they should let KOL work out their own problems.

I don't really like any of these two, but I enjoy some Kings of Leon. And they are very popular in my town. :)

But I really think The Drums should not bother with them. :blank:

I do not know what they are become since mew have supporting Kings Of Leon in Germany.

I kinda like The Drums, but their music isn't any extraordinary compared to KoL. That was such a jerky comment.

They're both terrible. /objective fact :phu:

KOL are boring mainstream rock

The Drums are boring indie rock

Exactly.

The Drums are a pack of women. And I'm not just saying that 'cause i love KOL.

Which I do. :3

I like both. So this is awkward.

My two cents: KoL gave The Drums a chance in the UK market by taking them to the Hyde Park gig-- so I personally think this is highly ungrateful on their part.

But it doesn't take a genius to see that there are issues within KoL and it's obvious to see that a lot of the time Jared and Matt pair off whilst Nathan and Caleb do. There is a lot of friction, so Jonny isn't lying there.

I just wish he'd let KoL speak for themselves opposed to getting involved.

I agree that Sex On Fire is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. That said him telling them to split up is outrageous. He really should mind his own business. He's clearly just trying to make a name for himself but at the end of the day it's their music that will talk and not the rubbish coming out of his mouth.

I've never heard another musician suggest that a band break up. That's the weirdest statement I've ever heard. KOL are up and down for me, but The Drums would be lucky if they could achieve a fraction of their success.

^Well said.

Personally I am a huge fan of KoL, more of their earlier stuff. Their early stuff (YYM/ASH/BOTT), that shit was golden.

Their newer stuff is not AS good but has kept them relevant in rock music and I still enjoy them.

Wtf. tho. haha

Hasn't Dejan been given an IP ban yet? His constant returns are tiring.
Oh, I was wondering why he got banned. :\
