The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You

Featured Replies

Fixed (by Muse-standards unfortunetely..) ;)

I don't think I've written here yet btw :o Muse has easily been my number one band for a couple of years now (sorry Coldplay, you're a strong second though) and I highly doubt I will ever see a better gig than Reading last year! If I'm having a bad day, I just look at that wristband..

You were at Reading? :cheesy: It must have been incredible.

I'm listening to Origin of Symmetry for the first time now! The only ones I've really heard before are New Born and Plug In Baby, both of which kick ass! :D What do people think are the highlights of this album?

For me, the highlights are Bliss, Space Dementia, and Darkshines. Citizen Erased is a fan favorite too.

  • I've been a Muse fan for a couple of years now. I liked a couple of their hits but then a friend invited me to come with him to a Muse concert with him in 2013. The live experience was amazing and I h

Sometimes when I'm bored I like to make up riffs and 'write' my own songs in my head, (even though I actually can't write music ) but then I go and listen to Muse and it turns out that the songs that I 'invented' are actually Muse songs that already exist  Does this happen to anyone else? :laugh3:

"New Born" and "Bliss" are fantastic (especially "Bliss"-favorite song off that album. I love how spacey it is). I also love "Dark Shines", their cover of "Feeling Good", and "Megalomania" in particular.

And "Micro Cuts" is just INSANE. The notes Matt hits in that song-dear christ, how'd he not permanently strain his vocal cords?

It's funny, I once spoke to Tom Kirk about Micro Cuts, and he said it DOES strain Matt's voice. It's a reason it hasn't been performed recently (R/L excluded) since he has to hit those notes with a huge force that he doesn't have to in other falsetto-heavy tracks like Exo 1. Matt's voice has indeed deepened a bit over the years and it sounds like he wants to preserve that falsetto as long as possible.

Super cool you got to chat with him.

I can imagine so! That's one hell of a pitch and I'm really impressed he even went for it, but yeah, it'd definitely be enough to mess with any artist's voice. I've noticed the change in his voice in recent years, he's started to put a lot more control over it, and I think it's a wise move for him to not push it that hard on a regular basis so he can preserve that. Certainly wouldn't want him to have a vocal issue like Adele did.

Since I'm obsessed with making up Coldplay setlists, I decided to have a go at the ideal Muse setlist. I'm not that much of a Muse expert yet, so it might be a completely stupid setlist: :P

Damn that'd be an epic setlist.

Unfortunately, they rarely play setlists so good. :bomb:

True conversation I had with my therapist the other day:

Therapist: "I hate Muse. Except I like that one Undisclosed Something song. It has a cool bass effect."

Me: "I HATE THAT SONG."

Super cool you got to chat with him.

Eventually he recognized me at a show. It was at that point that I knew I followed the band too much. :laugh3:

:laugh3:

Well, the fact that the Muse subject pops up during a session with your therapist kind of shows that too, doesn't it?

I like Undisclosed Desires (but a lot less than other songs), I just feel it's out of place in The Resistance. I have the same feeling about I belong to you.

By the way, hello, people. First post in here. I don't know why I haven't listened to Muse for such a long time. I'm glad I'm listening again.

Damn, I've only stalked Tom Kirk from above. :disappointed:

I was at the top section of seats, slightly behind and to the right of the sound booth, so before the show I was seriously sitting there with my friend giggling and pointing at Tom. :awesome:

LOL, what in the world is going on in that gif?

Of all the places to start talking about Muse.... How odd.

I like "Undisclosed Desires" *Shrugs*. It's a sexy song.

Hahaha. Yeah. That would certainly qualify.

I have never met anyone I'm a fan of, or people who hang out with the people I'm a fan of :(. Apparently that sort of luck never seems to shine on me.

^ 3:05 is the only thing sexy about that song :dazzled:

Ooooh. That was VERY nice to hear. Yes.

Really strange to hear the song like that. Kinda neat, though.

The whispers in the second verse scared me :laugh3:There's a version of MK as well like that. You can hear Chris going 'faaaaaallllll'. Never heard that in the song, maybe I just wasn't listening hard enough

They tweeted last night with some pictures :awesome:

I must start checking twitter more often :\

(I think)

Brass?

Okay. So now I'm even more intrigued. What are you crazy guys up to now?

It's funny, I was actually in Santa Monica the other night when Tom tweeted the pics, which is the town right next to Malibu where they're currently recording. (no, I'm not gonna stalk, though apparently some of the creepy fans know exactly where the studio is *shudder*)

Oh, wow.

I understand being curious and all, but yeah, I wouldn't do that, either. I'd be too scared to, and know I'd come off as one of those creepy fans.

So that's where they're doing some recording, eh? Of all the places in the world...

Gah. That latest news has me excited. Come on, new album and release date!

I keep hearing October as the album release date. Does anyone have any interviews or anything that would back that up? Or is that just a rumor?

its the musers prediction date and muse are talking about it coming out in autumn so

Oh okay. Well I wouldn't complain, October's my favorite month. :wacky:
