Miss the Viva Era?

Featured Replies

I think Coldplay had it going great on their last style. Don't get me wrong, I do like the MX era; the slicked back hair and the excessive spray paint...but I miss Chris in his weird black jacket singing, "Strawberry Swing." Maybe I am thinking about it too much, but it almost seems like they didn't care as much about what people thought back then. I would just like them to climb back into the, "Violet Hill" music video shoot all over again. Even add some lyrics to "Lukas"! It's to bad they had to change, but I still think they are the best band out there...so far.

I miss it to, but I love the new era too, they kept the best bits and adapted them to a new style. If the Viva style stayed for ever we might have taken it for granted and no longer appriciated it or gotten bored of it. Now it will always hold a special place in the hearts of Coldplay fans.:)

I miss the Viva era as well. Not only because Viva is my favorite album, but also because of the C stage on the tour! The Oracle said they weren't bringing that back, and the best part of that show for me was the band performing in the middle of the audience in the back of the venue... :\

I don't miss it. I don't miss any era, and I won't miss the MX era either. Or maybe I miss the Viva era. But then I could say I miss them all

My point is that I'm glad and proud to be a fan of an evolving band, and I think it's great that each album has its own atmosphere, through not only the songs but also the clothes, the artwork and everything...:D

^ There's the X-stage, it's still something ! ;)

This is true. If they stayed the same, we'd be bored....and they'd sound like Nickelback. :o

^ And yes! There is still the X-stage! :D

I think we all miss the Viva era a little bit...

But i think this era is just fantastic! i mean, love the clothes, the spray paint, Chris's hair, all!

My best friend (who also like them) told me they look like they're gay... at first i was like "Dafuq?!" and he told me "well look how they dress!" and well, i show him the buckin thread too so... we end up having a fight (lol)... :P Anyway, i fell in love with this era :D

I miss it simply because I don't much like this new album. I thought Viva was miles better...

Ah how I do miss the Viva era, I loved the whole atmosphere of the album, but I love this one too! I love how colourful it is, and the whole spray-paint splattered feeling of the album....It makes me want to buy white clothes and throw paint at them :D

I love the Parachutes/AROBTTH/XY/ era, I love the VIVA era better, but I love MX best^^ (I really love their spray painted theme)

What a coincidence, I was reading the review of 'my' concert during the Viva tour just yesterday. Great memories of the awesome stage and the memory of how desperate I wanted Chris' jacket. Great era.

And they played more songs

^They will play more songs. Hey, people, this era only started like 6 months ago (during the festivals period, and apart from that there has only been one "tour", the "real" big tour begins in April ! ) :D

Sure they will. And I didn't mind seeing the 'same' show again in december btw, it was the best show I saw them play actually :laugh3:

I am Being completely honest here, and so I know I will get some flak for this. But I truly think Viva was their best album , Mylo Xyloto has some good songs but I personally find it to be a bit too mainstream than classic Coldplay brilliance. There is just too much "pop"ness.

And I started loving Chris after his haunting vocals for dynamic songs like 'yes!' or 'daylight'. I feel a good album should have some serious creative stuff. I felt Viva was the epitome of classic Coldplay as well creative evolution of the band.

MX suddenly went all rihanna and R&B on us . While there are some parts that stick out like 'Major Minus' or 'Us against The World', most of the album is too Club-concentric and with less nuisance of lyrics. I mean where does "I dont want a cycle of recycled revenge" stand next to 'I turn the music up, I got my records on"????

and the clothes were great during the viva era and chris seemed so much more like the charismatic rockstar, but chris still looks damn sexy I admit

Totally agree with you :)

Though i like every era this has to be the riskiest one. for one they turned more pop. instead of their melodic style. the era i miss the most is AROBTTH

omg!!!!! evry1 shud luv evry song... theyre all 100% coldplay so if u don lyk dem ur not 100% fan :angry::angry:

I kinda agree about MX being a bit mainstream compared to Viva. Up to now I also think the tour was better if you look setlist wise. But I'm convinced some Viva songs will return when the real tour starts.

However, because of this topic I'm listening to a Viva tour show for the first time in ages. :)

In a good way. I guess ;)

no lol POC are u kidding me its too main stream. RIHANNA? coldplay has a certain place in my heart how are you gonna say that lol thats ignorant

While Viva was the record that pulled me into the band - and while the songs are certainly more robust than some on Mylo Xyloto - I really don't miss it that much. I can't name a specific reason, which doesn't do much for this post. Haha

Now, I do wish I was a fan during the X&Y times. Oh God, that would have been great. I miss that time the most -- and I wasn't even a fan!
