Coldplay on their way to Sydney, for their biggest tour yet.

 

BRITISH band Coldplay are officially stadium rockers. Ending months of speculation, Coldplay will perform at Sydney's Allianz Stadium on November 17.

 

Tickets start at $99 and go on sale May 25 at 9am from Ticketek (ticketek.com.au).

 

The tour takes in the biggest venues the band has headlined in Australia so far.

 

Frontman Chris Martin said band members were itching to return Down Under.

 

"It's such a special place for us," Martin told Insider. "These venues are pretty huge, the Aussie crowds are always incredible and we'll be bringing everything we've got. It's going to be big."

 

The opening acts have been hand-picked by Coldplay, including Melbourne band the Temper Trap and US band the Pierces, whose album was produced by Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman.

 

Coldplay's current tour, in support of No.1 album Mylo Xyloto, has been super-sized to fit into stadiums.

 

The band perform several tracks on a catwalk adjacent to the main stage, as well as continuing their concept of a pop-up near the rear of each venue.

 

Every member of the audience is given a special LCD wristband when they enter the venue.

 

The wristbands, featuring a plastic box with the Coldplay logo, illuminate during the concert and become part of the show's hi-tech lighting display.

 

Fans will see pop star Rihanna, who duets with Martin on the new Coldplay single Princess of China, perform on video screens during the concert.

 

The concert doubles as a veritable greatest hits affair with Coldplay classics like In My Place, Fix You, The Scientist, Yellow, Viva la Vida, God Put a Smile On Your Face, Clocks, Paradise and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall featuring in the overseas set lists.

 

Last year's single Paradise has become their biggest

 

seller to date in Australia, reaching sales of 280,000 (four times platinum).

 

Since their 2000 debut Parachutes, Coldplay have sold over 1.2 million copies

 

of their five albums in Australia. Coldplay's last tour here was in 2009 supporting their Viva La Vida album,

 

although the band made a fleeting visit last year to play the Splendour In The Grass festival.

One of the world's biggest entertainment acts will today announce a rare outdoor concert in New Zealand.

 

British supergroup Coldplay, led by singer Chris Martin, are front-runners to unveil a gig for tens of thousands of fans in Auckland.

 

Other possibilities for a Kiwi gig include veteran American rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are in the middle of a world tour, and singing sensation Lana Del Rey, one of the hottest new tickets around.

 

Coldplay have told Australian media they "are definitely touring Australia in November ".

 

Exact locations are yet to be finalised. Adelaide Now reported the band would tour "Australia's outdoor arenas".

 

Rumours about a major open-air gig in Auckland have been doing the rounds for several months.

 

"There aren't too many bands who can fill stadiums these days, but Coldplay are certainly always a safe bet to draw a massive crowd," a music business insider said. "The group members are also big fans of New Zealand."

 

The last time they played here was in March 2009.

Devastating news. The Australasian tour hasn't even been announced yet, but if some of the news stories being posted are true, it looks like Perth is going to miss out. After touring every album so far, this will be the first time Perth will miss a Coldplay tour. We nearly didn't get Twisted Logic, but a petition changed that, and we ended up getting an awesome concert. Why do we miss out this time? Do we have to petition again?

Wow, seems I'm very lucky with dates as I leave Auckland the next day to follow a rally around the North Island, what a weekend that should be! Hopefully we hear something more pretty soon.

 

Shame if they're not going to Adelaide as my brother who lives there was dead keen to go see. With a bit of luck they will play a few shows each place in Aus, otherwise it will be a very brief tour indeed....

Undeniably the world's biggest band, Coldplay, announced in March that they will be our way this November and Chugg Entertainment are now happy to announce the details of four very special stadium shows on the Mylo Xyloto tour in Australia and New Zealand.

 

This will mark the first time the 7-time Grammy Award winners have toured Australia since the overwhelming success of their 2009 Viva La Vida tour and their quick visit to our shores headlining 2011's Splendour in the Grass.

 

Since their debut in 2000 with the global smash hit Yellow, off the equally successful album Parachutes, Coldplay have taken the world by storm with album sales in excess of 55 million and a slew of nominations and awards, including picking up their seventh Brit Award for Best British Group at this year's ceremony.

 

With the release of their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay have experienced their greatest success to date in Australia with the album achieving double platinum sales. The band's new single, Princess of China, which features guest vocalist Rihanna was released to Australian radio last Monday where it was quickly snapped up to be the Most Added Song to playlists around the country. Princess of China is available on iTunes now and follows the radio favourite Charlie Brown and the biggest single of Coldplay's career in Australia, Paradise, which is now certified 4 x platinum.

Supporting Coldplay in Australia and New Zealand will be The Temper Trap. With the album release locked in for 18 May, fans can expect to hear new material at the shows, including Rabbit Hole and their new single, Need Your Love.

 

Opening the stage at each show will be The Pierces. Originally hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, talented sister-act Allison and Catherine Pierce will make their debut appearance in Australia this November, following up their latest studio offering, You & I (available now on iTunes in Australia), which has already had major success in the UK and has just been released in the US. Would anyone think a Perth date could ever be added (whether it be through petition, FB group, whatever) or should i just hope and start saving for possibly going interstate?
