Mass shooting at Batman premiere

^Does he mean that the guy will have a defence lawyer/team?

Or maybe you realised that, and are wondering why that's so unbelievable, which I understand, after all from a judicial standpoint, once you cut off a person's defence no matter how horrendous the crime, you start a precedent and knowing where to draw the line of 'horrendous' gets very cloudy. And that's just for a start.

It's crazy how inhumane people can be in this day and age. I read about this on Facebook when I woke up in the morning yesterday, and I literally began to tear up. That wouldn't even have crossed my mind. How terrible! Who would've thought that doing something so innocent as seeing a movie, could result in a mass shooting and the death of 10+ people. Not only that, but the poor families. I don't even know how I could cope in a situation like that. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives on June 20th, 2012.

This exactly.

I wasn't quite sure what he meant, as I could see various ways of interpreting 'defend'.

This exactly.

Wait, so if you agree, why is it so unbelievable?

^Yeah what is going on. :dizzy:

It's unbelievable that a defense lawyer is gonna try to defend this guy knowing full well he did it. There's a lot of evil there. What's the confusion? What did you guys think I meant?

It's confusing that it looked like you were agreeing with me when I made the point that there shouldn't be exceptions when it comes to someone having a defence lawyer because of the chaos in the justice system that would inevitably cause, but you were just agreeing in my interpretation of what you meant.

I'm guessing you didn't even bother to read all of Reilly's short post, or edit out the content you didn't agree with when you quoted Reilly and then responded 'This exactly'.

Misunderstanding aside, let me catch you up. Most western judicial systems entitle criminals to a fair trial with access to a defense lawyer. You're positing that the nature of the crime and the defendant's guilt are so obvious, that it is amazing that anyone would agree to represent him in court. Reilly argues that it is not so unbelievable because...

The ball is now in Mr. Bauer's court.

ok well i misunderstood that. But what did you think i meant in my original post?

STOP HATIN ON EACH OTHER, WE ALL NEED TO LOVE AT THIS TIME

 People protecting him from being demonized/ridiculed. Arguing that he was mentally unstable, lashing out against an unjust society etc. idk

Who is hating? And no, amazingly, these events have not put in me in a state of constant, irreparable sadness.

You've just become a victim of some top notch Emp trolling.

Who is trolling?

And nobody's hating, it was just a misunderstanding.

One of the wounded was a 3-month old. I'm sorry, but WHY ON EARTH would you bring a baby to a movie?

I took Sam, but only to parent & baby screenings. Some of the cinemas here have a screening one morning a week where they turn the volume down, leave some of the lights on, and let you take baby paraphenalia in with you. They change the film to a new release and it's different every week.

It was great, meant me & my friend could still go & see a film together even though I didn't have a babysitter. Sam would have his milk as the trailers started and wold then sleep through the film.

^ Wow, that sounds really neat.

Aha, should've paid mored attention to the poster. (I've always been one to blame the victim)

Oh i see who it was.

This was really tragic news. I picked up a story about it this morning from the USA Today which stated that nobody turned in their weekly box office reports as a sign of respect. I usually do the box office report at my radio station every Wednesday night, but the box office just doesn't matter under these circumstances. I got a little choked up reading about it on the air this morning. :( Very touching that Hollywood understands enough to pay this kind of tribute.

That's cool! I don't know if there is anything like that over here.

In this scenario (standard theater conditions), I don't see why anybody would take a baby. As you mentioned for the special parent & baby screenings, the volume is turned down. That was my main wtf concern for a baby being in the standard theater conditions such as the TDKR. Wouldn't that hurt, and possibly permanently damage, the baby's hearing?

Going back to the topic at hand, Colorado allows for the death penalty (that is a State-by-State law, not all have it). It is likely that the prosecution will ask for it. So aside from the tragedy of the situation as a whole, this is going to be yet another spark in the debate over the death penalty.

The dude in court today:
