NME : The Vaccines criticize Rihanna and Coldplay for teaming up with her

Featured Replies

I've never heard that song[/color], but it's Coldplay – they'll do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth, to be bigger than U2," he added.

Translation: Even thought I haven't actually heard their music, I am an attention seeking whore and by slamming 2 popular artists I can gain the most attention.

Exactly right! I wish people knew what they were talking about. And I don't think Coldplay will do whatever they can to become big, they do whatever the hell they want, and some people respect it and some don't. Either way, they give everything they have, especially to fans, so it doesn't matter.

These people seem to be jealous and insecure about their feelings as well as themselves. Such pity.

I don't really understand the strong reaction it seems to have. The Vaccines said they respected the band's work, and even that they've never released a bad album. They're just saying that collabs, with someone like Rihanna, are not their cup of tea.

edit: Oh wait, I get it. It's because of what they say about Rihanna ? I'd understand a strong reaction from Rihanna's fans, but from Coldplay fans..no, really the only thing that bothers me is the suggestion that Coldplay would do anything to be bigger than U2, as if it's their top priority, because I've never seen them like that (I am not ignoring the fact that they've always shown ambition btw)

totally agree

They're not bashing Coldplay, but Rihanna. They don't want to hear Princess of China because it features Rihanna and all her songs have like 15 writers, producers, etc. They even said that Coldplay's music is good.

And The Vaccines are really good, I'm sorry for those who are not keeping up with the indie music scene.

nme seem to be such attention seeking children lately

go away with that behavior nme it is unbecoming

Well , I particularly dont like Princess of China that much either and even don't like rihanna ! But then , agsin I dont know her ! And Coldplay is my favorite band and I will support them no matter what they do!

^ I actually disagree. It has never occurred to me that their main goal is to be bigger than U2.

They are desperate to be the biggest band in the world. U2 have been for the last two decades. They are following the U2 path. Coldplay are a brand now who plays it safe and does duets with a big popstar. Getting Eno to produce as well was another clue of the U2 path.

People hope as do I that they will go back to basic's on LP6 but that's not chart friendly. Whatever the charts sound like in a couple of years time be sure that LP6 will sound similar!

I think Eno was there to make them BETTER, not bigger. They've always said that, after X&Y, they felt they were big enough but not good enough.

I agree Coldplay is a brand, in a way. But I don't think they think as a brand when they're making an album. Now, it's just what I think, but the truth is I wasn't there, and neither were you. And you say they "play it safe": how is releasing an album called "Mylo Xyloto", with many songs that do not sound like what they've ever released, is playing it safe ? It's not playing it safe for their fanbase, and that was confirmed with the mixed critics, especially among the long time fans.

Also, they did ONE DUET with a big popstar. ONE song. Get over it people!

Funny that many of the songs sound like everything else in the charts. Yes they did a duet with a computer pretty much why not use an unknown person? Because they wanted to appeal to the youth as much as possible. It's a desperation to stay relevant and not take risks.

It's funny that your 'mood' is huggable, cause you seem kind of grumpy right now...

I don't hear something from the charts in UWTB, DLIBYH, AHT, MX, MMIX, HLH, MM... :wtf:

ugh, you know what I'm tired of this PoC debate, so I'm gonna stop fighting with you on that one. I believe them when they say the song was made with her in mind, and you obviously don't. End of story.

LOL I like how most of the songs you choose were the short instrumentals and none of the singles. Yeh they made that song with her in mind because it sounds like Rihanna feat Coldplay.....more proof they are trying to sound chart relevant.

You are absolutely bang on. I love Coldplay and their shows this year were amazing but I couldn't help but notice that Princess of China fell flat at both shows I was at. I also think ETIAW is a horrible song and does not fit in with any of their catalogue. Great song to close a show, sure, but not a great song, imho.

Rhyanna is Jay Z's protege so it's not hard to put two and two together and see why Chris wanted her. I actually think the song good - the video was one of the worst ever - but I like the song.

I like 95% of Mylo - the problem with the album for me has always been the production on some of the songs. Too cluttered (DLIBYH) and the smashing of the drums at the beginning of Hurts Like Heaven which overshadow Chris's voice. There are a few more examples but you get the point. I find as a cohesive piece, it doesn't flow as well as their earlier albums, but hey, it's still got many great songs.

It's a good album - I just don't play it back to back with older Coldplay or I find myself repeatedly asking "how can a band that wrote Politik release ETIAW?" ;)

I am sorry, I wasn't clear in my last post: they made the song with her in mind because they like her. They said it countless times, and I believe them on that, that's what I meant.

Also, I realized I had forgot to mention other songs that, for me, don't sound like songs we usually hear in the charts. And Coldplay has always released songs that are the most chart-friendly as singles, that's not something that appeared with MX.

It's funny that your 'mood' is lonely because you won't make many friends with people by pointing out that they seem to have a grumpy attitude har har har har

(I hope you see the silliness of commenting on such a thing now)

You know, I was thinking of so many different ways to defend my statement, but I feel like the best thing to do is apologise...so I'm sorry.

But, you have no idea why I feel lonely...
