The Vaccines: 'Rihanna isn't a real artist' The Vaccines Tickets Guitarist Freddie Cowan also raps Coldplay for 'trying to be the biggest band on earth'

 

The Vaccines have hit out at Rihanna for failing to write her own music.

 

Guitarist Freddie Cowan said the Bajan singer lacks credibility because she brings in other people to do all her work.

 

He told Digital Spy: Rihanna isn't an artist – she has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she's the face of it. I have nothing against it, but I don't want to be associated with it.

 

Cowan also criticised Coldplay for teaming up with the singer for their single 'Princess Of China'. "I've never heard that song, but it's Coldplay – they'll do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth, to be bigger than U2," he added.

 

"They do it really well and they've never put out a bad album so hats off to them. I have nothing against those collaborations because I don't feel you can judge people, but I don't think I'll ever be involved in something like that. It needs artistic merit."

Meanwhile, The Vaccines' frontman Justin Young has claimed many Russian citizens are "apathetic" about the plight of Pussy Riot. Speaking to NME in a video interview you can watch below, the singer said that the jailed punk band's predicament had fascinated the West more than it had members of the Russian public and suggested their incarceration had "pulled down the façade" that Russia operates like a Western country.

the buisness with NME, they who discovered Coldplay and is Gwyneth Paltrow made their advertising for Coldplay so they think that nothing is good about music Coldplay.

I'm sorry but The Vaccines are the very type of band I dislike. God awful British pub rock/shite guitar music which NME thrives on.

 

Chris Martin isn't perfect but he could fart better music than half the shite that magazine reports on.

This! Upon reading this article yesterday, I researched the Vaccines. I couldn't listen to their stuff even if you paid me. They're not even fit to tie Coldplay's shoes.

Of course I am American and 42 but I've never heard of them and don't hope to again.

^ I actually disagree. It has never occurred to me that their main goal is to be bigger than U2.

They're being a bit cocky, so what! I think their music is pretty good and I agree with most of the article from Digital Spy.

I don't really understand the strong reaction it seems to have. The Vaccines said they respected the band's work, and even that they've never released a bad album. They're just saying that collabs, with someone like Rihanna, are not their cup of tea.

 

edit: Oh wait, I get it. It's because of what they say about Rihanna ? I'd understand a strong reaction from Rihanna's fans, but from Coldplay fans..no, really the only thing that bothers me is the suggestion that Coldplay would do anything to be bigger than U2, as if it's their top priority, because I've never seen them like that (I am not ignoring the fact that they've always shown ambition btw)

Agree completely. Coldplay does what they want to do, they might have a friendly rivalry with U2 as they are now both big stadium bands, but they don't make music to compete with U2 in the slightest.

I like The Vaccines. And that dude is sort of right, sometimes it feels like Coldplay just try too hard. Agree with the album stuff too, even their weakest one is better than must of the stuff in the mainstream pop/rock scene.

I see your point. It may "seem like", at times. I still don't think it's really that but, from the outside, a collab with Rihanna (for instance) does seem like their priority is to be big. :nod:

Never heard of 'Vaccines', maybe the only thing they can do to make the news is hate on others.

I would actually say that I kind of agree with the guy from The Vaccines regarding Coldplay but it's just more of the NME. An apology of a music magazine hyping up an apology of bands.
