Okay, so I want to make a tumblr because... Well because. But my parents won't let me and my best friend thinks that I'll make everything that I blog there, mainstream. Now I've made this account and other accounts behind my parents' backs because I know I can hide it. But tumblr, I'm not so sure.

Should I make one?

Why won't your parents let you make an account?

my best friend thinks that I'll make everything that I blog there, mainstream.

what

Tumblr's community is full of self-entitled imbeciles who strive to be Internet famous and tYPE LiKe tHIS dle;dkldk, like they're experiencing severe seizures at any given moment.

But it's an excellent source for pictures, news, etc. of musicians and TV shows and stuff.

You must be around 13 or 14, to me that's old enough to go on the Internet responsibly, talk to your parents that you're a hard-working kid etc. and that you're old enough and mature enough to go on the Internet

If that doesn't work I guess you can make an account anyway, it's a fairly boring site though I only use it to look at pictures of Damon Albarn hahah :embarrassed:

Well I don't know. If your parents don't want you to, and you do anyways, it's not very honouring to them. It is very important to honour your parents, even as you get older and feel more independent. But you can go ahead and do whatever you think is right.

Just go and make an account, there's no problem in that.

Do your parents monitor your Internet behavior? If not, I honestly don't see how making an account for any site is that much of an issue. If you were talking about visiting a site like 4Chan, I would strongly discourage you from doing anything, but if all you're worried about is Tumblr, that shouldn't be a problem. You're already doing stuff behind your parents' back, anyway, so it's not like that in itself is a problem. (Not that I'm condoning that sort of behavior, but at the same time, I'm not going to tell you not to do that, as I have done it before with certain things also.)

There's a difference between honouring your parents and doing every little thing they say, even if they're just being paranoid.

Go and do it. That's what the internet is for.

Why can't you hide this from your parents? Not that I'm encouraging you to do it, just asking. But if you already have Facebook, Twitter and such I don't see what big difference would having a Tumblr account make, it's not like more dangerous or something.

Eh just go ahead and make one if you want to.

Just don't go adding complete weirdos and don't give out your home address and you'll be fine.

I think those are the main things that parents are worried about.

honestly the only bad thing about tumblr is the occasional porn and the fact that if you enjoy blogging you'll end up spending a lot of time on it

if you find a group of people you like though, it's a great creative outlet/way of finding news and whatnot

like me and the Sherlock fandom

if your parents say that you shouldn't have an account there, then don't get one. they have their reasons and they may not make much sense now but just listen to them..

Did you asked them why they don't want you to make one?:S

I'm also curious :surprised:

I'm also wondering what Brent was wondering back there, and I WTF'd as soon as I saw it, your friend thinks you'll make everything you blog mainstream? What?
