Mylo Xyloto EP in progress??

Featured Replies

Okay so I have no idea if there's already a thread on this...but I'm thinking the following things are starting to hint towards an MX EP under production?

1) lots of pictures and reports of the band and various other people in studios in Australia in recent days and weeks.

2) A reply from the Oracle regarding the band being in studio: "you know that thing that musicians usually go into a studio for? Well, that's why. That's not unusual by the way but that's all I will say."

3) It would make sense, following the Prospekt's March EP after Viva

4) Chris has said in multiple interviews that there were an awful lot of songs they wanted to put onto MX but didn't make the cut. Like with Viva, an EP would be the obvious answer wouldn't it?!

Is this something we can expect? I really hope they do it, mainly because I don't want the MX era to end yet!! :laugh3:

Bring on Car Kids!!!!!!

I would be tempted to put money on it being called Car Kids...aaand maybe it being something more to do with the comics? I can see that being the second half of the MX era.

That said...I might be way off!! It would be awesome though!

i sort of figured whatever work they might be doing now would go toward LP6...

If it weren't for the comics I'd be almost 100% sure that any recording they're doing now would be for LP6. But what with the comics coming out in 2013 and the apparent hinting that's going on I'm not so sure. I've no idea if releasing an EP along with the comics would be a commercially good idea or not, but I could see it being a good way to release more songs and promote the comic at the same time.

the comics are meant to parallel MX, though, and so it would be kinda pointless to release more music to go along with it. the band and/or their management may be keen on releasing SOME products if they are "a commercially good idea" but i don't think Coldplay would do that with their music itself. they'd only release music if they wanted to release it, not just to promote a comic book. if they wanted to release an EP to go along with MX, they'd have done it a lot sooner than a year after MX came out. :P

besides, if they're only starting things now, there's no way they'd have anything ready to release even by the end of next year, let alone the very beginning.

I disagree. I would love the idea of an EP - More Coldplay = Happier me.

However, if an EP was to be released, I feel it would have been done a long time ago - Viva and Prospekts were released within 5 months of each other, before the boys embarked on their huge summer tour and before LeftRightLeftRightLeft was released. If an EP was to be coming, it would have come in March, enough time to let Mylo Xyloto sink in, but yet still released at the head of their game to allow the excitement to reignite for the Summer tour with a few new songs (I.E Car Kids). If not then, it would be released especially before Live 2012.

If an EP was to come as a support for the Comics, then a track of the EP would have been used to promote them, instead of Hurts Like Heaven. The Comics, in my opinion, is to keep some mild interest in Coldplay among us fan boys and girls, and to keep us entertained whilst LP6 is constructed - Looking at a 2014 release, earliest. Say we buy these comics for a year, then in early 2014 a couple of gigs pop up, just as an excuse to build up a little interest. Mid to Late 2014, a new single comes out and then we have an Album late 2014, early 2015.

BANG New summer tour kicks off to support LP6 sending us through to mid to late 2016 (Where Coldplay headline Glastonbury for the 4th time).

Thats what I think anyway. That said, Car Kids EP could be announced tomorrow morning.

Hmm...that would make an awful lot of sense. But I don't know. To my eyes, MX is stronger than it ever has been, the tour is coming to an end, Live 2012 is just about to be released and its expected to do really well especially over the holiday season. In early 2013 the comics are being released which will rekindle interest in the album. It would surely be a sensible commercial move to release the EP at around the same time, comprising of the original album plus a second disk with the extra songs (and perhaps extra content related to the comics?)

That would definitely continue to sell for a few months, maybe with a few gigs here and there. That would definitely keep things going until the next LP. Maybe an EP could even bridge the gap and help link MX to the next LP. If so, maybe the next LP will follow quickly, lining them up for the festival season of 2013 and a late 2013 LP release with a tour starting in 2014?

I really don't know. It's certainly going to be fascinating to see how it progresses from here!

sorry, but... the idea of Coldplay finishing an album in less than a year...:lol::lol:

haha yeah...that is true...BUT...who says they haven't been working on it already? I mean, still hugely unlikely...but the possibility of it is exciting!

The next LP release 2014 or 15

I'd rather wait a while for an AMAZING album than have a rushed crappy one, I don't think they'd release something they weren't happy with anyway though :)

Yeah...I'm not sure they'd be able to rush even if they tried! Way too laid back!!!

I said this in another thread:

I was thinking that since the 4th issue of the comics is called "Up With The Birds" that the first 4 issues takes us through the album. That leaves two issues left. Now, if the album's story can be told in 4 issues, that leaves 2 issues left, or an EP. The 1st issue is released in February, then the 2nd in March, 3rd in April, and the 4th in May. Then in June the 5th will be released, which was when I am hoping for an EP that will explain the rest of the story, which may or may not include Car Kids, Tomorrow, Love In A Lethal Dose (if that is even a song still) and maybe Great Expectations. Who knows, that was just my idea on it.

That might be a really good shout actually! Would certainly tie up all the loose ends!

You forgot Golden Arrow!

I do not see and EP for MX era. We have Mylo Xyloto, Mylo Xyloto Pop-Up Edition, The tour itself, The Comics, The DVD. I guess it's enough products for an era, even if I would love to hear Car Kids, Great Expectations, Tomorrow, Golden Arrow & CO.

I don't think they should re-release the album with an extra disc with a few new songs! I didn't buy the viva one, I just brought PM ep... It's not fair on fans! New Ep to run along side the comics seems the way I think they'll go! And I hope it has some genuine good songs on it! It makes sense! Can't remember what songs never made the MX, car kids I know almost made it! So we'll see!

i mentioned this in the HLH single page

so much for taking 2013 off i think that was just a joke to throw us of the sent of whats to come i hope that they at least relese one or two songs on the website like they did with death will never conqure

its not there useuall set up in this era in parachutes there was at least one B-side on every release the same with AROBTH plus live 2003 and only live prefomance songs X&Y had loads of B-sides and almost a live DVD (dont know what happened to that?) and more only live songs Viva had free downloads a live CD an EP and B-sides and charity singles and christmas lights

with MX there has been MTM,Mylo Xyloto and Live 2012 (+the comics but there not music releted) there must be more on the way but becouse noone expected Prospects March after Viva it was a surprise with MX people where half expecting it form the begining thats why i think theyve been putting it off of ages to surprise people again either that or there recording company are ass holes who wont let coldplay relase B-sides anymore becouse in todays music induistry B-sides arent economicaly friendly (basicaly they dont see the money in it)

rant over sorry for the spelling mistakes :D

I would put 10p on their next new song being a song on a soundtrack for a movie.

Or getting roped in by one of the music magazines to do a cover song for a cover-album

That might be a really good shout actually! Would certainly tie up all the loose ends!

Oops, how could I forget Golden Arrow!! Yeah unfortunately I do not think we will get one, just being hopeful is all.:)

I think the only thing we can say is that the next LP is a long ways off. I don't imagine anything they're writing or recording now would be for an album.

I really wouldn't be surprised at all if we got an EP in the next 6 months. There's no reason to assume they would only release an EP within the calendar year of the release of a full album. If anything, it makes a great deal more sense to release an EP truly in between two albums, to keep interest up and to also make sure it doesn't affect either albums sales or impact.

With Prospekts, how many truly "new" songs did we get? Life In Technicolor ii was recorded for the album and they decided to go with an instrumental. Postcards was only 40 seconds and instrumental. So let's say that in terms of full songs, fully formed and recorded (as far as we know) separately from the Viva "recording" sessions, we got GoW, RD, PM, and NMFWTTG.

So four songs newly recorded. One included that had been recorded for Viva already (again, not saying the others couldn't have been recorded before, just that it is possible they were recorded after). One that was 40 seconds and therefore no great task. Two that were "remixes".

So, thats really only four new songs.

As far as I can say, it'd be fairly easy for them to put together a four song EP. If they have Hopkins in tow right now, I have to imagine its a more serious moment of recording. They only bring him on when they're close to being done with stuff.

As such, have to imagine we'll have new music in the next 6 months.

The only thing I think its fair to assume about Coldplay is they take their time with albums. But I don't see them releasing an album till at least 2014 or 2015.
