Snow Patrol hasn’t exactly taken the world by storm, but in recent months the veteran Scottish/Irish alternative rock quintet has been breezing through the mainstream. After spending several years sloshing up and down the indie-rock slopes, charismatic frontman Gary Lightbody and his band of alterna-rock mountain rangers have started riding the musical ski lift from college radio into the American top 10.

 

Taking all the obvious cues from all the obvious heroes like U2, Radiohead, and the similarly frosty-named Coldplay, Snow Patrol’s fourth sheet of frozen rock, Eyes Open, has made the biggest avalanche a band from the British Isles has made in the US for quite some time, and while nobody is going to mistake this team for The Beatles (or even for Oasis), everyone from your mom (who heard them on Grey’s Anatomy) to your 12-year-old neighbor (who heard them on One Tree Hill) is getting mileage out of “Chasing Cars.”

hmm are snow patrol launching their new video 'open your eyes' ? that video was showed new (maybe) in asia.. but i just watched a half...

Anyone catch them on SNL? I was grinning the whole time. Except I don't think SNL is a particularly flattering place for a band to play... I don't think any band I've ever heard there has been particularly good soundwise. I don't think it's the bands, just the way everything is set up... the sound was a little numb. BUT HEY, IT'S SNOW PATROL.

 

OH OH AND BY THE WAY! My friend's dad is going to see and meet them in NYC soon... and he offered to get me an autograph and deliver a note I wrote them. I hope it gets to them... it's just a fan note but I drew a (crap) picture of the band. :]

Ally, not sure from where in OH you are coming from but once you cross the stateline into MI, it's right about an hour drive north on I-75. hope all the planning goes smoothly!
