The Snow Patrol Thread

You win. Well, for the Olive Grove part anyway. The original version is sooo amazing. :wacky:

@johkujii: I can't stand The OC, but the music they use is just :awesome:. Then again, it is a Josh Schwarz show, so that basically means the music is awesome by default. :D (the music on Chuck is great as well)

By the way, I received my HMH ticket the other day (I'm so old fashion :wacky:) and I noticed there is no mention of a support act. They usually print either "support act" or "special guest" on the ticket with HMH shows. I wonder..

It's a re-worked show I think - three hours of SP, no support.

  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

Yeah, I think so too, but I hope they announce something soon. :nice:
mariah boobs.

im trying to get An Olive Grove Facing The Sea the non 2009 version. :shifty:

*goes to youtube*

another (fanmade) video :

:wacky: :wacky: :wacky:

btw, is it just me or does Nathan look like he's perpetually got a stoner look on just about all the photos? :P (& i still think he looks like Tobey Maguire)

@everyone else... You know I'm always complaining about how I NEVER hear Snow Patrol on the radio here. Well, recently one of our "independent" stations has expanded their repertoire a bit, and they are now playing JUST SAY YES!! Along with Crack the Shutters and Take Back the City!

I haven't watched the new Run video yet, but what do you guys think of them re-releasing it? Was it the best choice, or should they have chosen another song?

nice to see Snow Patrol getting some love from the US radio stations, Jen! :)

i think Run's a (modern day) classic as it is already, but no harm re-releasing it, i suppose. especially since most ppl outside of the UK know Chasing Cars more than Run anyway. i can't find the video clip of it anymore cos Channel 4's blocked it, but when Snow Patrol where the "house band" on a (really hilarious) show called 'Sunday Night Project', one of the hosts made a tongue-in-cheek request for them to "play that Leona Lewis song"...which many do mistake Run for anyway, as the others were saying earlier.

& i think so far it looks like a few of their older songs (the "oldies but goodies", i like to call them) are being re-released? maybe it's a marketing strategy on Universal/Fiction's part...

^Indeed, they do! Which are your favorites?

@Bianca- thanks for posting it! I do like the full, clean sound of the new version, though, in complete honesty, it's not my favorite song. *runs and ducks from flying objects being hurled by fellow Polar Teddies*

*brain starts imagining a group of polar teddies throwing flying objects (namely rubber duckies)...* :laugh3:

(i seem to have gone a bit loopy... :shame: )

Olive Grove, for me, is their best song that isn't The Lightning Strike (that wins by default because it's so amazingly epic). :)

I fell in love with Olive Grove for the first time I heard it, it's my absolutely favourite SP song. and of course Set the fire to 3rd bar, because I have so many memories with that.

*brain starts imagining a group of polar teddies throwing flying objects (namely rubber duckies)...* :laugh3:

We ran out of rubber duckies, so I had to throw a real duckie. :P

We ran out of rubber duckies, so I had to throw a real duckie. :P

won't that duckie just fly off quacking away then? :P

Olive Grove, for me, is their best song that isn't The Lightning Strike (that wins by default because it's so amazingly epic). :)

The Lightning Strike is probably my favorite. It's definitely epic, but I also love that each section, taken on its own, is beautiful. Speaking of, does anyone know if there are separate mp3s of each part?

And OK, I take back what I said about An Olive Grove. Now that I've had the chance to listen to it a bit, I do actually really like the original. The Up To Now version is pretty, but missing something... and thus, is not as appealing as the original.

On the topic of repetition, I do agree with Jen that Cartwheels can becoming grating after a while. On the other hand, I think You Are My Joy is a much better song, even though I can see where one might find it repetitive.

Thank you, Michael. ;)

Kimmi, it's funny that you refer to Run as a modern day classic. I know so few people here who even know it. Of course, when they hear it, they love it, but I don't think it's nearly as well known here as it is in Europe.

And thanks for being sweet enough to imagine rubber duckies flying... I was imagining more along the lines of books and rocks!

We ran out of rubber duckies, so I had to throw a real duckie. :P

poor little duckie. you missed, though. :P

Oh, and as for the Set the Fire to the Third Bar love going around, I completely agree... and I think that's probably my favorite SP video. Gary is AWESOME in it!!

The video is indeed amazing! A pitty that I can't watch it on YouTube; it always says I live in the wrong area. Oh, well, do I? Never occured to me. :dozey:

Just feel like adding my two cents to the "song discussion". :nice:

I must say that I can't really decide on which version of Olive Grove I like better... On the one hand, I prefer the "musical arrangement" (or whatever) of the first version but on the other hand I think Gary's voice sounds better on the 2009 version...

I also adore the lyrics... Just let me be here, I won't tell anyone... I don't wanna wake up, I don't wanna wake up...

And Cartwheels's actually my Reindeer Section favourite. Although I do get the point of it being a tad repetitive... However, I don't mind and it especially sounded absolutely amazing played live. :cheesy:

I never really liked You are my joy, though. And I don't even know why.

You know what, the flute in I'll Be There When You Wake killed the song for me. :dozey: And I'm playing the flute myself but I just can't stand it's sound in the song.

You Are My Joy never blew me away either.

And Elena: Your new set looks amazing in use. :nice: Even better than 'just' on your profile.

The Lightning Strike is probably my favorite. It's definitely epic, but I also love that each section, taken on its own, is beautiful. Speaking of, does anyone know if there are separate mp3s of each part?

not officially, but i can easily split it into 3 individual files for you if you want. :)

heh...actually, i do agree with you that VERY few people outside of Europe/UK knowing Run. & i do sometimes get annoyed when people just judge Snow Patrol on Chasing Cars only.

but i think it's a modern day classic cos of the mood in the crowd at Snow Patrol gigs whenever Run is played (even if i've only been to 1 gig & the rest is just videos i've seen). Run somehow has a bigger effect emotionally than Chasing Cars, especially live.

& i haven't seen a lot of Snow Patrol's music videos, but i have to agree with you that Set Fire To The Third Bar is a great video...& that Gary looks great in it too in the suit & not too long & messy hair. heh

The video is indeed amazing! A pitty that I can't watch it on YouTube; it always says I live in the wrong area. Oh, well, do I? Never occured to me. :dozey:

hmmm...you do? tho that IS a weird message tho...telling someone they live in the wrong area!

heyyy everyone... sorry I've been MIA (buried @ school) :dozey: so excited for you guys who have a concert coming up. Wish I had one to look forward to! :)

but I'm just going to add my 2 cents to the Jen/Bianca "Cartwheels" debate and say that I love that song. It won't ever take over "You Are My Joy" in my Reindeer Section book, but it's still great. To be honest I didn't really appreciate it until I heard a version from the Reworked Tour - same goes for "Set Fire to the Third Bar" I'm ashamed to say that I always just passed over that song until I heard a few live versions! :)

I'm a little sad too that I missed the Leona Lewis dialogue haha. I want to preface this by saying that I do NOT watch "The Vampire Diaries" (but secretly I'm lying - I DVR it and catch it whenever I'm bored). Anywho, one of the characters died a slow sad death on an episode a few weeks ago and they played the Leona Lewis version...it acutally sounded pretty and that version seemed to fit in just there. BUT this bugs me because imo it's an inferior version, and obviously now it's the more popular version around here (you guys were right - silly people think it's her song.):dozey: But on the other hand - that is a ridiculously silly show and it's probably for the better that SP wasn't associated with it???

PS Jo I think you can get front row @your show, especially if Elena & Bianca are taking on the fake fan girls! ;-)

I don't know if anyone here knew about it but our boys had been nominated for three Meteor Awards, the categories being "Best Irish Band", "Best Irish Album" and "Best Irish Live Performance". In the end, they won the award for "Best Irish Band" which makes me really happy for them, considering the fact that they beat U2 and Bell X1 after all. Plus I think they really deserve it. :nice: Although I must admit that it bugs me a bit that they didn't make it as "Best Irish Live Performance" as I think they'd have definitely deserved that one, too. ;)

Oh, really? For some reason, I quite like that flute. I think it sounds kind of cute. :nice:

And thanks, my dear! I can't stop staring at the photo, either.

Well as listening to Leona Lewis is generally akin to enduring a long, slow death, I would say that was pretty apt!:P

OMG!!! they beat U2 at something!!! :stunned: *imagines Gary doing his "fuck off..." reaction :laugh3: *

i still have conflicting interests in the "Best Irish Band" thing, but i tought "Best Irish Live Performance" would've been between Snow Patrol or U2.........did not quite expect it to go to The Script. :P

yeah Snow Patrol beat U2.

I think that's really fair.

THE SCRIPT won for best live performance?! that seems... odd. Not that I've ever seen them, but against U2 and SP?? But honestly, it would have been :awesome: if SP had won that category over U2. Don't get me wrong, I love U2 and of course, they put on incredible live shows, but SP is able to accomplish an incredible live show without all the extra bells and whistles. :wacky:

Congrats to them for winning "Best Irish Band"!

Edit: @Elena- I completely agree with what you said about "An Olive Grove..." the perfect version would be one that had the original instrumentation and Gary's vocals on the 2009 version! :wacky: and oh, yes, love the new avi and sig, too!!

I've seen all 3 of them... and i'd rank in this order for anyone who might care! haha

1. Snow Patrol

2. U2

3. The Script

just nothing too special about the Script...although their new song is number one on my sister's top 25 most played....

Anyone watching the Olympics tonight? 'Take Back the City' was prominently played over a little profile they did on one of the US hockey players.

@Meredith- what is their new song? I think the only song I know by them is "the man who..."

Speaking of teir "Best Irish Band", here's the proof that they actually won:

That just totally made my day.

As sad as I am about the fact that they weren't there in person and didn't perform, I absolutely adore that video... :laugh3:

Oh dear, poor Gary... I mean, if a non-talking Gary is not the weirdest thing ever, I don't know. :laugh3:

Looks like they're having a fairly good time in L.A. ... Wouldn't mind if they came back soon, though. ;)

Oh, and, I should say: Gotta loooove Nathan's acceptance speeches. Priceless.

How many women was it?

I laughed so hard.

Gary looks so adorable, even though he just sits there and smiles :D

Nice to hear Nathan talking (:

:laugh3: i was dead tired when i watched it, but i was laughing away still! it IS weird seeing Gary just sitting there not talking. he even looks a bit sulky at the start.

& that thing with the paper signs is adorable...haha

& darn that broken jaw! no "fuck off!" reaction from him... :P (but at least Nathan gets to speak!)

Poor Gary with the signs. Cute acceptance speech video!

How many of you are going to the Amsterdam gig?

I couldn't really follow... :embarrassed:
