What? Vaulting and gatekeeping files? That's perfectly within the spirit, just ask Stephen the owner, he has a lot of unreleased files he'll never share to anyone. Can't really blame him. Stephen if you see this can I have some unleaked songs please

Just because the owner does something does not mean it is within the spirit of the community. From my experience coldplaying is a community that shares their love and knowledge of the band. Someone gatekeeping files is not even the same as someone selling them for extremely high prices. Typically, people who share files on this site do it for free, so charging 5000 dollars for files is completely out of the spirit of this site. Charging people like that is the spirit of ebay, not coldplaying.

He's making a joke, he's doesn't actually expect anyone to pay $5000 for that 😭

Whoops, I thought he was being serious. I have ran into many people online who artificially inflate the price of things like that so I guess the idea of someone selling leaks for 5000 didn't seem too crazy to me (which probably points to a larger societal problem but I digress). I am saddened by how little attention this website gets. Most forum websites are dead at this point (This is mostly due to modern social media being so all-encompassing that most people just look at websites like Twitter and Reddit for specific community discussion instead of a dedicated website). I joined this website like a year and a half ago so I guess I joined it post-mortem. However, despite this website being mostly dead, I still really enjoy the time I spend on here. Logging in every day to check news on Moon Music really helped me have something to look forward to during an extremely difficult time of my life. I also think the remaining community is a quite enjoyable bunch of people (which is why I was so annoyed that someone was peddling leaks for extreme prices as that went against my idea of what this community is like). Also, sorry to @allmyfriendsarealiens, I didn't realize you were joking.

It's a mixed blessing. I remember the old days and I try not to get too nostalgic about them, but around Viva this place was incredible. 

That being said, a massive leak like last years never would've flown on the old Coldplaying. It would've been shut down immediately like they did on reddit. So I'm grateful the board was able to facilitate that in its old age. 

On a side note, finding posts of mine which are 20 yeas old is a great way to feel ancient.

I love looking at the older posts on the website, (especially around X&Y viva and ghost stories era) and I always do a double take when I see a post by you.

What I meant was Moon Music was originally revealed to be MOTS2, and I didn't like MOTS. Another volume of the same thing was the last thing I wanted from Coldplay. 

Thankfully once the leaks started happening, it became apparent that Moon Music was going to have its own, much better sound. So I was able to get excited for it.

Had to dust off the old coldplaying account after learning about these songs - anyone know where I can check them out?  I've found one or two, but would be cool to check more of them out.

Wild to finally hear the vocals to Famous Old Painters ~15 years after the original leak of it.  I can see why it wasn't released, Chris seems a little unsure with that melody and lyrics but even so, I've listened to it so any times in the last few days.  Even in that state, would've been great of Prospekt.  The direction they were going back then with that and Spanish Rain, and that "The Dubliners" song (as people called it - did a recording of that ever leak) was a really tantalizing direction for the band.  I remeber Chris said the latter would be part of a post Prospekt's March EP (?) we used to speculate on.

I'm fascinated to hear the Wedding Bells recording you all are talking about.  Any connection to Wedding Song?  Interesting how public Chris was with that unfinished song, with the website update back then, etc, when it seems it wasn't even done yet.  He must've really liked it I guess, but very forward in a way - he was basically giving a glimpse into songwriting in front of live/tv audiences.  Didn't know about the accordion based Charlie Brown until now.

Hilarious even with these massive leaks people still did not get Car Kids hahaha - I remember how weirdly crazy everyone on this board used to want that song; I still a not sure what about it caused such hype haha.

Last thing - I saw someone asking what other band released unreleased songs to combat bootleggers.  Well, I'm sure many (Bob Dylan bootleg series comes to mind, even the Basement Tapes was released for that reason), BUT it brought to mind The Beatles anthology.  That came out just a little after the 30th anniversary of their first album.  We're only 4 years from the 30th anniversary of Parachutes, so we are roughly at the timeframe for something similar.  Might have been what the files in these leaks were compiled for?  Just speculating.

Weezer is the gold standard for releasing leaks to combat bootleggers. Rivers Cuomo released EVERYTHING. Like giant zip folders with thousands upon thousands of mp3s inside. I don't expect another artist to ever do that again, let alone Coldplay.
