In fairness, you don't hire Beyonce to do backing vocals. She obviously plays a more prominent role. Wouldn't be surprised if Gwyneth Paltrow has as well. Tell me, what are wrong with Will's majestic backing vocals? This album seems condemned to the same fate as MX, excessive pompousness for no reason that turns a potentially great COLDPLAY song into something considerably grating, bland and unnecessary. Tell me this, how many nightclubs do you know that play non electronic music, especially for the last song of the night? I was initially enthralled, but let's be honest, it's one guitar solo. Noely G is not even singing on the album! Not much of a contribution when you have the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow being bestowed the honour instead.The Paltrow thing is particularly infuriating. The Yoko Ono of our age.Yeah... This album seems to be the nightmare the Oldplayers feared the most. It takes all the points of contention of the last two albums that everyone disliked and magnifies them to the extreme: 1. Dancey tracks with less than inspired lyrics. 2. EDM. 3. Collaborations. 4. Overproduced poppy production. As with MX and GS we might have had only a couple of these elements appear it seems with this album they're going to feature on every track in one way or another.. Worrying.That jacket Chris is wearing is pretty cool. The blue eyed student responded by doing a collaboration with Ariana Grande.Yeah, right... Most overrated album: This would have to be VLV. Great album but has some 'meh' moments as well (Lovers in Japan, Lost!, 42) some songs like Rainy Day, Glass of Water and PM/Poppyfields would have been better and raised the album's standing to X&Y levels if they would have been brave enough to include them on the album. Overrated Song: VLV, Hands down. Underrated Album: Parachutes without a doubt. It's funny how it's Coldplayers who I find don't appreciate it like they should. Rather, it's general music fans and critics which lavish it with the critical acclaim it deserves. Best British debut of the last 30+ years. Underrated Song: This will actually surprise some people, but I would say Magic. Sure, the electronic drumbeat is annoying and the lyrics are less than spectacular (This is GS after all) but having Guy leading a song and those atmospheric effects which wouldn't seem out of place on Parachutes really elevate the song for me. I can see it fitting in snugly on a greatest hits album.Then that blue eyed student wrote AROBTTH. I'd have no interest in supporting any of these establishments, but my love for Coldplay would probably have me forking over the €300+ for a ticket.
