  1. Chris only good collaboration in my opinion was Richard Ashcroft, Johnny Cash would have been amazing too. Have high hopes for the Noely G collaboration.
  2. It says a lot about Coldplay during the AROBTTH and X&Y eras that the b-sides we're so phenomenal.
  3. We're on a roll tonight. Let's keep it up. How anyone can even compare songs like Amazing Day, True Love and ASFOS to songs like these I'll never know... [video=youtube;ThcCE8BKtpg]
  4. I think DAAHF is very A Rush Of Blood-ish
  5. I honestly feel very bad for them. They have no idea they've done irrevocable damage to their legacy. I hope this whole superficial "happy, poppy" phase is just that, a phase. U2 went through something similar before seeing the error of their ways. I can maybe see them taking a long break after this album and subsequent tour. Eventually coming back with a low key, acoustic album (a-la Parachutes) and possibly on their own label. One can only dream
  6. #AROBTTH AROBTTH 12 points X&Y 10 points Parachutes 8 points
  7. Because there's such a divide in terms of style of music. The "Oldplayer" epithet is a backlash against the current output I suppose. A very small one might I add considering the output from the band post Viva. I don't think any rock fandom is as forgiving as Coldplaying.
  8. The REAL Coldplay: [video=youtube;plgouFtw8jQ]
  9. This thread has a specific purpose and is tailored to a specific audience. If you don't like that you don't have to visit.
  10. Chris on the sirius fm interview: Interviewer: "What was something Coldplay 2015 did that maybe, Coldplay 2005 wasn't evolved into yet?" Chris: "We wanted to let go the concept of being a rock band" It's over guys. We lost.
  11. GS? I think you mean to say they should do more Parachutes.
  12. The messiah who will show Chris the way.
  13. I'm only joking :)
  14. They're probably just going through a phase like U2 did (I hope so anyway)
  15. I didn't use the term (for a lack of a better one) as a competition. What I was trying to say is, obviously there's going to be harsher criticism here, from people who actively follow the band, than the people on twitter who lavish it with praise simply because it's trending.
  16. ? I suppose if you can't be called a hardcore fan by visiting a fan website everyday and accumulating 1100 posts you can never be. I do remember Chris doing Kylie songs during one particular Glastonbury show, but like you said, it was a joke. He also made quips about pop acts which he thought had no merit too, was it boyzone or westlife? I can't remember.
  17. I remember that actually. Any mathematicians here who could calculate the odds of that happening? :inquisitive:
  18. Hardcore Coldplayer's have a more critical eye I suppose. I'm in two minds about it really. One minute I like it and the next I change my mind.
  19. You would get that impression if you listened to his interviews past 2010. Before that his admirations inclined towards Radiohead and Oasis. I'm not saying pop has no artistic merit, especially when it's Coldplay. But just nowhere near the merit their first 3 albums had, if they never released Parachutes and AROBTTH we wouldn't be having this conversation, we'd probably be enjoying AOAL for what it is, but remember this is the band who wrote AROBTTH. It can be a big dampner on enjoying AOAL when you think to yourself "This guy wrote The Scientist"
  20. The lyrics on Parachutes, AROBTTH and VLV were superb. I think the issue is with the lyrics being banal and bland. Chris does a certain thing very well; esoteric and ambiguous lyrics, this obviously doesn't translate well when you're writing dumbed down lyrics for a mainstream pop audience so as a natural consequence when he tries to write straight forward lyrics it doesn't translate well.
  21. What ever happened to the Indian influences? We must be getting a different video for this single because why film a video in India for AOAL?
