  1. Yes, I couldn't agree more. I'm all for evolving your style, but there's evolution and then there's revolution. It is quite frustrating I think because even under the veil of pop music, Chris tentatively slips in something amazing on each of the last two albums, on GS it was Midnight which made me really excited as I believed Coldplay we're doing something similar to Kid A, but alas it was not to be. I think part of it comes from the band wanting to be all things to all men. They want to be artistically creative and original, yet want also to have the chart toppers and appeal to easy listeners. The problem with this is, no one is fully satisfied and you end up alienating people. It is just heart wrenching when you think of all the potential after AROBTTH, not to say the next two albums weren't great. They were, it's just that they weren't a work of art like the first two were. Case in point, I think it says a lot that Coldplay we're once compared to greats like Radiohead and Oasis but are now compared to the likes of Bastille and Imagine Dragons. As far my expectations for AHFOD, I think as far as you can guess from a title, it's promising. And as you said, as this is the 'last thing' I think its okay to have high expectations for this truly exceptional band who are capable of writing masterpieces. Just please no collaborations, No EDM, No electric drum kit, No concept albums that ruin personal interpretations. Maybe I expect too much and if anyone thinks that, that's entirely fair enough.
  2. I must say, I would love if they went for something similar to this. Very Reminiscent of the Blue Room EP artwork. Theres something about that artwork that makes it look like it belongs on "The best albums" lists. Bravo to whoever made it.
  3. I think it's fair to say A Rush of Blood was their peak at this stage? I'll sheepishly make that statement because I know a lot of people don't like to hear it. Live 2003 was something else. A rush of blood was definitely the best album of the last decade hands down in my opinion, a masterpiece as said above . I'm not hoping for AROBTTH on LP7. I'd just like something that the detractors won't have a field day with, you know?
  4. Does anyone prefer the Blue Room version of Don't Panic over the Parachutes version? I initially liked the Parachutes version better, but the more I listen to the original, the more I feel it captures the essence of the song and the message the lyrics project. A lot more ambient, morose and regretful. Utterly beautiful. It actually reminds me of Violet Hill in a way. Anyone know why it was changed? The original would have definitely fit in on Parachutes, it was radically altered in a way High Speed was not.
  5. God no, Coldplay don't need to become the next A-ha the world already has one A-ha too many. and Discotheque? *Shudders*
  6. Coming along very well I see. Well done SprayCanSoul :)
  7. (To Chris) If you were to ever form a rock supergroup, who would it be with and why?
  8. Miracles vs Fools Gold (The Stone Roses)
  9. Crests of waves vs Some might say (Oasis) (Surely)
  10. Crests of waves vs Let down (Radiohead)
  11. Yes :) Have you ever had a dream involving Coldplay?
  12. Famous old painters and don quixote are beautiful. I'd love to see an album in that vein. I die a little inside when I think of all the unreleased songs they have probably recorded in the past that are amazing but got scrapped for whatever reason. I'd absolutely love to hear some of the stuff that never made it from the X&Y era.
  13. You'd be better off heading to the Arctic Monkeys forum with that one I think! :)
  14. I'm forever the optimist and I am really looking forward to hearing something from the album. Ghost Story from the extended version of Ghost Stories is a great song in my opinion. Miracles a step away from the synths and the latest thing we've heard, despite being a joke song, was beautiful! Sounded similar to green eyes :arobtth: Have Hope. :parachutes:
  15. Who wrote the guitar lick and solo for Violet Hill? :viva: :D
  16. I'm talking charts wise. I'm probably wrong, but I remember Paradise being number one for a crazy amount of weeks.
  17. This is something Coldplay have always tried to do. Wasn't MX more successful than VLV charts wise? On a side note, An album of Hurts like Heaven's would not be bad. Not bad at all.
  18. I'm of the firm belief that X&Y was a major turning point for Coldplay and it's the reason for Coldplay in its current form IMO. I think after the overwhelming success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, the pressure got to the band big time. Despite being an absolutely exceptional album in my opinion, Critics were very harsh when it first came out and this was the time period when it became "cool" to hate Coldplay. I believe this affected the band a lot, and they were probably overly critical of the album. This is why you never hear any of these songs played live. This signified a change in style on the bands part and resulted in hiring Brian Eno etc. If X&Y had been as good or better than its predecessors, We'd have a very different band than the one we have today.
  19. A gross miscalculation ;)
  20. Of course. I'll like anything Coldplay releases really, But it's ok to have high expectations when we all know the kind of amazing record Coldplay are capable of creating.
  21. It's ridiculous when you think about it. The guys who produced What does the fox say? producing a Coldplay album!? It's bizarre.
  22. The fact that Chris lost to Jared Leto is disturbing.
  23. I actually quite like 'Miracles' definitely better than anything on 'Ghost Stories' bar 'Oceans', Not anything close to A Rush of Blood mind you, but a step in the right direction.
