  1. I found this a few days ago! The whole set is up on YouTube and worth a watch, but when Chris played "The Scientist", before the bridge he says "Aw, I wish Jonny was here". :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=04STpH4lVNY;m=3;s=19 So cute.
  2. X&Y. Do y'all remember X&Y the song? Of course you don't. Do you remember the masterful hook? The fucking trippy chorus? The awesome guitar? The best vocal performance on that album? No you don't. You don't because it is the most overlooked song of Coldplay's career and I will die on this hill with the three other people who agree with me. Fight me.
  3. Oh wow, I'd never seen that performance. What a great version! Thanks for sharing! I pick this 2014 performance from Royal Albert Hall. Not only is it a great performance, but Jonny sings and it's incredible and I love it. Next Song: Fix You (*wiggles eyebrows*) EDIT: Seriously though... that GPASUYF performance is fucking bonkers. The guys all seem to be having such a good time. And it really shines a light on Jonny and Will. Just fabulous. Something tells me I'm gonna watch it until I'm sick of it.
  4. Yup. My favorite Coldplay song, thus my favorite song ever. Thus... tattoo.
  5. This one is a bit subtle/obscure. I'm sure y'all can guess it. :)
  6. And who do I sing for? Well honey I sing about you (God I love that song) See You Soon
  7. I love Coldplay live. I love how they can change up/remix a song, Chris' banter, the general rawness and emotion. Post performances from concerts, videos that you yourself took that you're proud of, or performances from talk shows/award shows. Just include the venue and date along with the song title! So, I'll start with Politik. I know that's kind of unfair, but whatever. "Politk" 2003, Fuji Festival https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZdp1Du1Q7E Then, I'll propose a song that the next person to post has to reply with a YouTube link (video or audio) that is their favorite live and/or acoustic version of that song. Then the replier has to propose another song for the next person. (And please refrain from songs that were never played live/acoustically, obviously). My proposed song is: Viva La Vida Have fun!
  8. I LOVE Viva, don't get me wrong, but it can't touch AROBTH for me. But, Coldplay being the kind of band they are, I understand that this is just my personal experience/sentimentality talking. But I can agree that one of the reasons I love Viva so much is because it's a bit "under-produced". Something more akin to Parachutes (this may be the first time those two have ever been directly compared hahaha).
  9. Yellow gotta go.
  10. Just curious, do you think he's gotten better or worse?

  16. Honestly, over-produced or not (hey, X&Y), I think most of Coldplay's songs 'work' better live. As you said, there is a certain degree of emotion and depth live that just doesn't exist studio-wise. For example: Almost every song on AROBTH. I don't think anyone would argue that that album is over-produced, but listening to live performances of 'Politik', 'Daylight', 'AROBTH', 'Amsterdam'... the studio versions, while lovely, just don't come close. Just my two cents though.
  17. Actually, I think most Coldplay fans came in with Rush.
  18. 1) A Rush of Blood to the Head Top Tracks: A Rush of Blood to the Head, Politik, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, Clocks, The Scientist, Green Eyes, Daylight, Amsterdam Low Track: A Whisper The album that made me love music. 2) Parachutes Top Track: Trouble, Don't Panic, We Never Change, Spies, Everything's Not Lost, Sparks Low Track: High Speed Organic, minimal, and amazingly mature for a debut. Flawless. 3) Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends Top Track: The Escapist, Death and All His Friends, Violet Hill, 42, Cemeteries of London, Strawberry Swing Low Track: Yes Rich, and dynamic. Great layering and a great balance of complex and simplistic. Definitely excited to see what the do next. 4) X&Y Top Track: Twisted Logic, X&Y, Square One Low Track: The Hardest Part Hollow, forced and contrived. Much lower than the other three, whom are ranked very close together.
  19. Is there a re recording of their preformance?
  20. I don't think they'll ever hit Parachutes or Rush ob Blood greatness again. Viva is a great record though. However, I think you are missing out a large portion of the album. Those are very, very literal interpretations of these songs. The Scientist, although about love and loss, is wrapped in a metaphor. This person tried so hard to plan and to scientifically analyze something (love) that obviously cannot be done. Many of Coldplay's best songs are metaphoric and some are even oblique. Spies, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, Politik... all of these songs could have many interpretations but still possess that directness that makes Coldplay's music so beautiful. And to say that Lovers In Japan is about lvoers in Japan is almost laughable. Coldplay have taken a new road and Chris has definitely found a new niche of songwriting, but I can relate to Lovers In Japan in that the first verse is all about life: 'Runners / Keep on the road you're on / Until the race is won'. A very simple sentiment on how to live life, sung in a song that is wrapped in a conceit. Violet Hill is about what is facing us today, in this world. War and death and 'puppets' (Politicians). Glass Of Water is basically a warning against superstitions and leaving life up to chance. Coldplay are out there, living their lives just like the normal human beings they are. They cannot and should not be the same people (And hence the same artists) that they were in 2000-2003. I know a lot of people miss that, as do I, but I'd much rather see them stretch their wings and reach out a bit further into the musical spectrum than to try to recapture Parachutes/Rush. X&Y we saw the band trying to fill a void that they really couldn't fill: bombastic stadium rock. The arrangments may've been nice, but the songwriting suffered for it. This record, the band has definitely stretched their boundaries and have grown more confident in their abilities, their choices, and their own tastes. I still feel as though they're holding back a bit, but as evidenced on 'Prospekt's March', they're just getting started. I think the success of Viva will help them prusue their creative whims to their fullest.
  21. It's good, but you have to make it looks like it's the only jacket you own and that you wear it everyday and sometimes sleep in it. Then it will look authentic.
  22. Their darkest songs? Animals Spies A Rush of Blood to the Head Politik Twisted Logic 42 Such A Rush To name a few.
  23. They suck at award shows period. Chris gets all nervous and over-sings. Poor guy.
