  1. I'm sorry if what I've said was taken as preaching, I hope I didn't come off that way ;) Sometimes internet conversations can take on different meanings than they're intended to! A LOT of the things said in this thread were very unfair. A lot of Lounge folks passing generalized judgement on Coldplay folks, and very much the vice versa. I was just trying to voice some of my feelings that I've been harboring for the past couple months or so, especially since we started moving forums etc. I kind of go in phases on Coldplaying. For a couple months I'm all Coldplay, then Lounge, then random, etc etc. So I think I understand the dynamics around here a lot. Alright. Let me just be a TOTAL hypocrit for a second and say: Your sig is entrancing...   Yeah he needs to grow his hair back out. [/end_hypocricy] Seeeee, I can do it too!
  2. Believe me, I know what you mean. I'm not much into the Lounge either. I just like to post on the discussion threads that (ironically) Reilly usually makes. I don't visit the dedication threads because I'm not particularly close to anyone... My beef isn't with JUST this section. It's really the Coldplay/Lounge dynamic. The people from the Lounge can be pretty cruel. A lot of elitism going on. I don't get that over here. :) I can understand more than anything where you're coming from on that. I just wish everybody on here would give each other one big hug and start using all areas of Coldplaying. I think it'd make everything a lot nicer and more of an internet community. ;)
  3. I don't know. I guess that it's just this board is incredibly divided. It's the Lounge folks against the Coldplay folks. Ian created this section for Coldplay. The Lounge is for people to hang out. I mean, you've just got to see where I'm coming from on this. All I want is to get some new pictures to look at and I have to go through 15 pages of "night" "hi" etc etc. I was guilty of this in the past, I admit that, but.... There's just got to come a point where people realize that this is ONE forum, not two seperate ones. If everybody wants to talk to each other, go make a dedication thread in the Lounge. Nobody's going to bug you in there about chattering. It's what it's for. But to make a Guy thread a chat thread isn't the purpose of it. I just think it's inappropriate for underaged kids to be writing or reading some of the stuff on here.... That's all. I don't think that's too out of reach to comprehend... I hope? EDIT: What about the CFU section? I actually thought that's what that was for originally... So the Coldplay groups could chat about the band really freely without clogging up this section. That could help a lot....
  4. My grandma told me that. I don't know how much I'd trust that opinion, though   ;)
  5. Why are you being so inflamatory? I did nothing to you. I wasn't insulting anyone on here. I'm trying to make suggestions as to how we can make this place better. It's been on my mind each time I come here. It's this dismissive attitude we all have that's the problem, I think. Why are we all wound so tight on here? Just relax, not everybody's out to eat your babies.... I don't think Reilly killed anyone's brother (well, I don't know that  ), so there's no need to call him the things people have in here. A lot of the meaningful posts get looked over, while everybody continues to bicker. I feel like that same thing's going to happen to me, like it ALWAYS DOES on here lately. I'm so sick of it.
  6. It's hard to ignore something that you think goes against something you think is right, or appropriate. But if you want to disregard what I've said and throw the "just close your eyes, plug your ears and sing 'la la la'" cliche at me, then whatever.
  7. an_cat replied to KM's topic in The Lounge
    Who knows?
  8. People are naturally self serving, so if it's cool to say "Make Trade Fair!" then they will. But I doubt any of them really knows what that entails. Your viewpoint is completely justified. It's sad how apathetic we've all become. I certainly aren't, I just hope I'm not alone in that.
  9. I haven't posted here in the Coldplay section in awhile. At one point it was the ONLY place I visited. I just stop visiting here now. I can't handle it. I'm a woman with hormones, and yeah. I feel for the members, I can appreciate that. I think that if I felt the need to post a  smiley or something, then I would. The guys do it in the Lounge with their Hot Girls thread. There shouldn't be any harm there. But it's gotten out of hand. And it's pushed me away from here. I think that the problem is that there are TOO MANY PAGES. The Guy thread is what, 2000 now? I don't know I haven't looked. I can't deal with that. I just want pictures, and that's a picture thread. But instead it's maybe one picture every 5 or 10 pages, and a LOT of discussing various parts of it. Maybe if we had a mod lock a thread after 500 comments, or 1000 comments (60 pages, or so), we could... I don't know. Start a SECOND thread and do it that way. Keep it to pictures. Comments included, obviously you can't gag people, but..... It'd just make MY (and a lot of other people's, I'm sure) life easier. As for the body parts threads....... They're not exactly my cup of tea. I think it really is giving the wrong impression to new members. But then again, who am I to say? I don't know why everybody's completely ignored Erin's post on here. I agree with everything she's said. How people say guys are bad, but we girls seem to be worse  . I'm not ragging on anyone, I respect all of you, since I hung out in here ALL the time at one point. But now when I visit Coldplaying, it's Lounge>World of Music>News>Entertainment/Arts. I'd be willing to post in here, but it just strikes me as a very tight group now, with a lot of private jokes, and I feel like I've fallen out of the loop. In the past few months I've sort of changed. I feel awkward talking about people in that way, when I know how much I respect them for the work they do that's completely unrelated to a physical appearance. I can't write something without thinking "Cripes, if they ever saw this." There needs to be a rule. It should be: If you ever came face to face with a member of Coldplay, and couldn't look them in the eye and say the things you say on here, then you shouldn't be saying them. And if you feel guilty about thinking about that, then you shouldn't say it. Just food for thought. I hope some reform can happen on here, and I can start visiting the Coldplay part of Coldplaying again. But if not, it's ok. I'll go back to the World Of Music now....
  10. Haha, there's some weird irony in this. The government has taken away all of our abilities to get angry at big name people. So we get angry at each other. I wonder if they'll be censoring that soon as well. I don't know what was so funny about that. Nothing, probably. But I'm sick so have pity on me. My mind's not here right now
  11. I'm not TOO scared of posting my opinions on the internet. I'm not going to stop being who I am. I'll write what I think until someone physically comes to my house and rips it away from me. And that probably will happen someday.... To be completely honest, it scares the friggin' crap out of me. I know someone on LJ who wrote something about Bush after he got reelected. The FBI came to her house, made her lock or delete everything (I don't really know exactly what they did to the journal, but I do remember seeing that public entry). She now has an FBI file that will follow her everywhere. Because she professed her feelings, someone didn't agree, and reported her to the feds. Unbelievable, but it happens. My country scares me. Not long until we're all becoming non-persons like in 1984!
  12. The pluses of ordering plus sized clothes! That's pretty random......? Oh well! still cool!
  13. I've had state testing all week in school, and every single morning before starting the test I've blasted Leif Erikson. For some reason it calms me and keeps me from going totally insane with the mundanity of it all.... :snore: I have no clue why I have such an infatuation with that song, but I definately do. Zu, your avatar is the funniest thing
  14. Care to share why? If you say because it was about two men being in love, then.... I just erased what I typed, lmfao. Not appropriate and pretty immature. Oh well. But I feel very strongly about homophobes. I hope you didn't like the movie because of that. If so, then maybe you shouldn't say. Because I will verbally assault you........ Has anyone else who've seen this movie had the issue with giggly girls, or immature people, in the theater? I have. The second time I saw it there were 3 girls up front who obviously just saw it because maybe they thought one of the actors was hot, or wanted to have bragging rights amongst their peers ("Oh yeah, I SAW that. :smug: ). I wanted to hit them.
  15. Dolly Parton? She's a legend  Biggest boobs on the planet, and apparently they're natural. Yeah. Sure. After recently seeing Capote, Walk The Line and Good Night, And Good Luck. I can say that Hoffman COMPLETELY deserved the best actor Oscar. I'm a huge Heath fan, but Hoffman OWNED Capote, which was an incredible film. If GNAGL had come out any other year, I'd have wanted to have it win best picture. Hell, if any of these films came out on different years, they'd all have won! I have yet to see Crash... Don't get me wrong, but movies about racism sort of... tire me. It's sort of cliche, now. I can't explain it, but I have a feeling it might be kind of "things done and lessons learned, PREACHING TIME!". I hate that. I love Brokeback's subtle way of dealing with homophobia, without letting it overpower and dictate the movie. Out of all the films I've seen so far Brokeback was the best.
  16. Celebrities opinions are put on a pedistal by the media, because they can't put the opinions of the masses up for all to see. Because there are too many. They're easy, accessable, and the people connected to the words are well known. They shouldn't be taken as better, or higher, than ours. Because they're not. They just get to be heard. It's our own fault that we feel inferior to people who are really no better than us. I know that if I had a soapbox, I would stand on it. If I had 20,000 people listening to my every word, I'd be shouting so loud your ears would bleed. It must be a really nice feeling. Unless the people you get to preach to aren't open minded, or don't hold your same opinion. Then you're stuck with the negative backlash. In that respect, I'm glad I'm not a celebrity. It must be so annoying to have people down your throat about something you believe. This is sort of a coincidental thread, since there's a discussion going on about the same exact topic on a U2 forum. It was spurred by George Clooney declaring his "liberalism" in an online blog. Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com I am a liberal. And I make no apologies for it. Hell, I'm proud of it. Too many people run away from the label. They whisper it like you'd whisper "I'm a Nazi." Like it's dirty word. But turn away from saying "I'm a liberal" and it's like you're turning away from saying that blacks should be allowed to sit in the front of the bus, that women should be able to vote and get paid the same as a man, that McCarthy was wrong, that Vietnam was a mistake. And that Saddam Hussein had no ties to al-Qaeda and had nothing to do with 9/11. This is an incredibly polarized time (wonder how that happened?). But I find that, more and more, people are trying to find things we can agree on. And, for me, one of the things we absolutely need to agree on is the idea that we're all allowed to question authority. We have to agree that it's not unpatriotic to hold our leaders accountable and to speak out. That's one of the things that drew me to making a film about Murrow. When you hear Murrow say, "We mustn't confuse dissent with disloyalty" and "We can't defend freedom at home by deserting it at home," it's like he's commenting on today's headlines. The fear of been criticized can be paralyzing. Just look at the way so many Democrats caved in the run up to the war. In 2003, a lot of us were saying, where is the link between Saddam and bin Laden? What does Iraq have to do with 9/11? We knew it was bullshit. Which is why it drives me crazy to hear all these Democrats saying, "We were misled." It makes me want to shout, "Fuck you, you weren't misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic." Bottom line: it's not merely our right to question our government, it's our duty. Whatever the consequences. We can't demand freedom of speech then turn around and say, But please don't say bad things about us. You gotta be a grown up and take your hits. I am a liberal. Fire away. Obviously, this doesn't really have much to do with what we're talking about here. But the people of Interference (the U2 community) got a bit riled up about how Clooney feels the need to declare he's a liberal, while we all can't. Er. Yeah we can? We can do it whenever we want. It's just Clooney's got the microphone and we don't. Whether you think this is fair is another topic, relating directly to the fairness of "celebrity". And don't get me started on Bono. To insult him isn't fair. Of course there are celebrities who don't know horse's shit about what they're talking about. They just like to flip the peace sign around and scream the word "LOVE!". But there ARE those people of a high social standard who actually do know what they're talking about. But I guess working for, and being vocal about, an end to poverty is annoying to some people. Whatever. That's a personal viewpoint that I don't subscribe to. hmm. I do like it up here on this soapbox. :) I feel very entitled to it!
  17. Made by EDUN?! Are you serious? (wait, why would you be kidding?) Wow. That is so friggin' awesome. I ordered mine a week or so ago. Well, my mom did for me as a "gift" (what for, I really don't know). I hope it comes soon!! I'm sooo excited! Are all of the U2 official shop tees made by EDUN?
  18. Stop complaining Reilly!!!! , just kidding. People I know are generally boring, so I'm usually the trademark clown who'll always try to make people laugh when the conversation goes stale. But yeah, it does kind of annoy me when people are just so... blah. Oh shit. Speaking of cold weather, this thread made me turn around and look out my window. Thanks Reilly. This thread reminded me that it's not spring yet, since it's fuckin' snowing. :( And yesterday it was 55!!!! LAME!
  19. I figured you were just kidding, but I wanted to be perfectly sure ;) Keane.at is the best!
  20. Whoa! June 13th is the real release date for the second album??? Did I just miss something huge???! Or am I just totally confused
  21. Ah, isn't sleeping outside stadiums/arenas the BEST? What I love the most is when the sun starts to rise, your ass starts to slowly fall off from the cold, and the local bussinessmen are sauntering by with their Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts in their hands. Giving you those weird "Oh no, they are sooooo weird" looks. Where they're actually the weird ones, going to work while I'll be seeing U2 front row later that day. Pah. But it's a pretty fun feeling, most definately.
  22. I'm going into liberal arts, and am leaning towards international studies. Truth is, I have no clue what I'm doing. lmfao. But I do know that I am really looking at a couple of schools. I'm a junior and it's pretty stressful... But whatever. In the long run, it'll sort itself out and I'll find my calling.
  23. *bump for my baby* Fun times. Let's start it up again :) Tagging the last picture I see, which is Kelli's. *Tag black is the new black:
  24. Don't worry, I wasn't saying anything. Believe me, I haven't met many people in the world who share a lot (if any) of my musical tastes :) It's just they didn't really fit with who you were listing... 50 cent->avril->snoop dog->KEANE?->MJB I just thought it was kind of funny how suddenly it went from Snoop Dog to them  Ok I have a really horrible sense of humor, nvm.....
