Wow, so I don't know how this happened to me. I thought Sufjan's tour had already passed thru my State, then I look online today (read: just now) to find that he's not due here for another 2 weeks! So I visit the ticket site which says there are tix left, and get this bright glimmer of hope that I might able to go after all! But after bouncing around and calling friends to see who wants to go, I phone the venue to find out there isn't a single ticket left. I would love to hear him live, if now only to hear Majesty Snowbird. Thanks Rad-Cold for the mp3. Now I can listen to it to my little heart's content. :nice: Edit: Doh, thank you dBg....sry, name mix up.- Sufjan Stevens

Aspirin is no match for a MIGRAINE!- All feared dead in Brazilian plane crash
Little chance of survivors in Brazil crash POSTED: 2:35 p.m. EDT, September 30, 2006 Story Highlights • Brazilian officials: Survivors unlikely; at least 145 people on board • Officials: Airliner may have clipped smaller plane before crashing in Amazon • Helicopters sending rescuers down by rope to cut trees at crash site • Gol airliner plunged into ground at 310 mph, Brazil's airport authority chief tells AP SAO PAULO, Brazil (CNN) -- No one is believed to have survived the crash of Gol Airlines Flight 1907 in Brazil's Amazon region, said rescuers, as they struggled with dense rainforest to reach the wreckage Saturday. After a grueling overnight search, air force pilots spotted pieces of the airliner, which was carrying at least 145 people, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) from the city of Peixoto de Azevedo, Gol Airlines said. Brazil's defense minister and airport officials said the plane may have clipped a corporate jet before crashing into the jungle. Brazilian authorities had first believed the planes collided, but then backed off that explanation. The corporate jet, a Legacy 600 made by Embraer, safely landed in Cachimbo. Its pilot reported seeing, "out of nowhere, a large shadow" passing his plane, clipping his wing, and forcing an emergency landing, said Defense Minister Waldir Pires. Embraer said it would cooperate in the investigation and offered sympathy to victims' families. Gol Airlines Flight 1907 was traveling at nearly 500 kph (310 mph) when it slammed into the ground, Brazil's airport authority chief, Jose Carlos Pereira said, according to The Associated Press. "When one cannot find the fuselage relatively intact and when the wreckage is concentrated in a relatively small area, the chances of finding any survivors are practically nonexistent," AP quoted Pereira as saying. Helicopters were lowering the emergency crews by rope, so they could cut down trees for access to the site, Pereira said, according to AP. "It's a very complex operation, it's extremely humid there, and there are millions of mosquitoes," he said, according to AP. The plane was heading from Manaus to Brasilia, and was set to land at 6:12 p.m. (5:12 p.m. ET) Friday before going on to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, a spokesman for Brazilian civil aviation said. It was last heard from at at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. ET), officials said. The plane disappeared from radar screens while over military-controlled airspace, the civil aviation spokesman said. The site of the crash is in the same region where Varig Flight 254 crashed in September 1989. Thirteen people died in that crash; 42 survived. If no survivors are found, it will be the deadliest airliner crash in Brazil's history. Up till now, Brazil's worst air accident was the crash of a Vasp 747 in the northeastern city of Fortaleza in 1982, which killed 137 people, AP reported. The aircraft was new, with only 200 hours of flying time, and had just been received from the manufacturer on September 12, a Gol statement said. Gol is the fastest-growing airline in South America and was launched in January 2001 as the first low-fare airline in Brazil. 3 nights in a row?? :jealous: Great photos! I'm really kicking myself that I didn't find a way to make it to his show when he passed by my neck of the woods. Stupid, stupid me. :veryangry: Can't wait to see your videos. :nice: And in case it hasn't been posted before, I found a vid of a guy covering "for the windows in paradise" on youtube. It's really quite nice! EDIT: DUH, a link would be nice, wouldn't it? :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sxYV815WsM- Sufjan Stevens

Humm, I'd completely forgotten about this DVD and trailer. However, as Patcat said, we might need to look into copyright issues with the pics. I throw the whole thing together so fast, I didn't even stop to consider all that! Rodaaaan? Where are you? ;)- Sufjan Stevens
Review: Sufjan Stevens' gorgeous wonder POSTED: 3:52 p.m. EDT, September 22, 2006 By Todd Leopold CNN ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Sufjan Stevens has been described as childlike, and the opening of his concert Wednesday night at Atlanta's Fox Theater fit that depiction to a T. The stage of the Fox, a 1927 model of movie palace luxury, was decorated as if for an elementary school pageant. Silver tinsel streamed from the rafters on either side of a movie screen, and the instrumentation on display included a toy piano, bells and triangle. And then there were the musicians, including a small string and horn section, who entered wearing butterfly wings. All except for Stevens, who wore the wings of a large bird. But then he sat down to play, and childlike gave way to wondrous and magical. He sang about his hometown, Detroit. He sang about ivory-billed woodpeckers. He sang about John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer. He plucked a hollow-backed banjo and shook the bells and let the rich textures of the strings and horns wash over his wispy voice, creating a sound that evoked impish games, lonely prayer, 19th-century porch swings and the quietude of a land before it was rent by the roar of machines. At times it even sounded like a spirit observing from above, the ghosts of settlers remembering. It sounds, somehow, like America. That's appropriate, given Stevens' "Fifty States Project," his puckish plan to write an album for each of the 50 U.S. states. So far he's done "Michigan" (2003) and "Illinois" (2005), which -- given the rate of release -- means he should be finishing around 2100, when he'll be 125 years old. But for an audience listening in 2006 -- and the Fox, the largest hall Stevens has ever played, appeared almost filled to its 4,600-seat capacity -- he had plenty to offer. Stevens plays most of the instruments on his albums, but live he let the sound spread out around him, even indulging in some piano-banging cacophony as the strings placidly bowed behind him. There was a bit of unexpected cacophony early in the show when a faulty microphone connection squawked in defiance, but the performers quickly regained their equilibrium. Near the end of the show, Stevens launched into "Chicago," perhaps the punchiest song in his catalog. As he sang the double-edged refrain, "All things go/All things go," the audience sang along. "I made a lot of mistakes," goes another lyric from the song. On this night, not even close.- Rate the avatar above you
Wow, that guy can jump! 8/10- For Coldplay section's chatterers !
Steph, I remember feeling that way when I first started uni too (and I didn't even have to move anywhere!). You'll fall into a rhythm soon enough though, then things will start to feel more natural and you'll be less apprehensive about it all. Classes start for me on Monday, so I'm just trying to enjoy my last few days of summer vacation as much as possible! :) I'm kinda ready to get back though....I've got some awesome classes this term! woo!- For Coldplay section's chatterers !
Heya Kara :nice: Sounds like you're getting settled in to university life nicely (cool neighbors = a plus). :) Moving is such a chore though, isn't it? So many little odds and ends to think of. :rolleyes2: :P Hi to Steph, Mari and Larry too :)- For Coldplay section's chatterers !

[boards really slow, isn't it? :(] Well the return trip should have 'only' taken 45 hours....but due to the delays caused by heightened security, we missed 2 connecting flights. :( I know the additional security is for our own saftey, but traveling is turning into such a headache. They seriously had a bazillion checkpoints within the secure section of the terminals. I think the whole system needs to be streamlined a bit. The lines were horrendous at times. I took so many pictures I haven't even had time to go thru them all yet! :P I'll put some on my flickr account sometime soon though. While in England we made trips to the Cottswalds (saw the beautiful countryside), and we went up north to York. Weather there left a lot to be desired (freeezing!) but good times were had nevertheless. In London itself we did the normal touristy things (museums, play at the Globe, and SO MUCH WALKING). I spend a lot of time at home just hanging with my grandmother. :) Just as fun (shes a riot!). It's a shame you didn't make it to WOMAD. It was awesome! Some really talented musicians came to play. My favs were a rapper from Senegal and a Salsa music group from NYC. :P The whole thing was like a big world love fest! They had lots of social awareness booths, international food and dance, workshops, etc. Seriously worth it. In India, we were traveling almost the whole time. Indian culture is so rich and vibrant - from the dance to the music to the spicy food....its an experience for your senses in every possible way. But visiting India is never easy. There is so much poverty and human suffering. After returning home I can't help but feel guilty for the way I live in contrast to all those who have so little (but still manage to smile). [omg, i can't believe I just typed that much about my trip...I'm sure you didn't want to know that much! haha sorry, I'm still on a post-trip high] Yay, first year of university is the best - So many new experiences to take in! What I enjoyed the most my first year was having the freedom to tailor my own education by choosing courses and activities. Are you going to be living in dorms? Do you know what you want to study yet? Lucky you - uni in London! What better place could one ask for, really? - What are you thinking right now?
