  2. i just think it's weird because everything seems to have changed since then, but at the same time nothing's changed at all. i was at work yesterday on the anniversary, and a coworker said to me at about 9 am, "you know where i was two years ago right now when all that shit started happening? doing the same thing i'm doing right now, right over there." but at the same time, hardly anybody feels the same about their position in the world. for the billions of people in the world who didn't lose a loved one in the attacks or in a war and the billions who aren't living in a country that's being torn to pieces by war as a result of the attacks, it's all about state of mind. there really hasn't been any sharp rise in terrorism anywhere in the world (except for israel, but that's unrelated), but none of us feel safe. and it's a damn shame that our politicians here in the US are trying to play off of that fear and paranoia to secure votes in elections. september 11, 2001 ushered in an era of fear and distrust, and hopefully we can come out of that era and realize that $1 billion per week would be much better spent fixing our own problems here at home instead of creating new problems for people overseas, endangering their lives and our troops' lives, and creating even more hatred of america. thus concludes my long-winded, boring speech, spoken with a typical american self-centeredness. :P
  3. *drinks beer and grunts manly-like* yeah, talk about yer nfl here. i'm as die-hard an eagles fan as they come, i suppose, so this is really a bad time for me to start this thread, since we just suffered the most embarrassing loss since... well, the last time we played tampa bay. GRRRR STUPID BUCS. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!! BRING IT ON PATRIOTS!

  8. THE GREAT ESCAPE?!?! HELLO?!?!?!
  9. OH MY GOD i remember that. there were actually two of those movies... in retrospect, making them seems like a horrible idea, but i had them both on tape (recorded from the tv broadcasts in the late 80's) and used to love them. until i lost the tape. and then forgot they existed until now.
  10. my thought is that it wasn't so much a "drug" movie as an "addiction" movie. if that makes any sense. that probably sounds like something somebody who does drugs would say, but i don't. on an unrelated note, did anybody catch the reference in the simpsons in the Ribwich episode (when homer bites into the sandwich)? hehe i wonder how many people watched that thinking "what the hell?"
  11. i think i was on the verge of having something profound to say about this particular date, but i don't quite have it yet (i do have a nice rant about how the bush administration has done everything wrong since then, but i'll save that one. at any rate, i guess i thought i couldn't let today go by without at least ONE mention of what happened. as much as any of us hate to relive it, especially after all the initial overexposure, you have to admit the date looms large even now. so post your 9/11 thoughts here, if you have any. :o
  12. *marks september 7 on next year's calendar*
  13. so we should expect to see you banned within a day or two? :P
  14. yeah, i just realized that i missed the whole bash here and all.... well you should know it wasn't my fault, i was busy. i'm sorry, i wanted to come! :embarrased: :embarrased: :embarrased:
  15. buy a duke ellington or aphex twin or curtis mayfield album so you actually have something different to listen to, instead of more bands that sound similar. :D
  16. i'm sick of debating over what's "real" punk. if your definition of a genre is so slim that you can't include any band that doesn't sound like the sex pistols or the clash or husker du, etc... well, it just sounds incredibly narrow-minded to me. the point isn't what's "punk" and what's not "punk," the point is whether or not the music is any good (incidentally, most current "punk" bands are god-awful). what's in a name, anyway? i also think it's ironic that a culture that proclaims itself to be free-spirited, rebellious, liberal, etc., would be so shallow as to say that you don't count because of your haircut or style of dress, or that you can't really be a fan of a band unless you've seen them live, regardless of whether or not that band ever even existed during your lifetime. ok, rant over.
  17. now you know why i don't have my screen name listed in any of the search directories or on message boards i go to or anywhere else. :D
