  1. Oh man, I know this all too well. It hits us at random times. Suddenly. For the longest time, my motto was "I dont want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid!" I even had a job there for a little while, didnt take it seriously. I played video games all day, drank soda, ate pringles, and stayed skinny. Was naive about relationships and needy when I was single. Wrote cheezy love songs. Tried to be like John Mayer. Listened to Dashboard Confessional. Could care less about politics. And one day I ran into a couple friends from highschool. - one of them married with a kid. - one of them married with two kids. - they told me about all these people that I knew who got married and had kids. Then I realized that I was a college drop-out and most everyone I graduated with had already graduated from College. One day I stopped visiting my highschool, because everyone I knew had graduated. One day I realized that Emo was annoying. One day I realized that trying to be like John Mayer was really stupid and I stopped listening to music all-together for a while to cleanse myself of influences and find my own sound. One day I got a job and started taking it seriously. Opened a bank account. Fell in love. This time it wasnt naive love. Started taking music seriously and doing well in competitions. Started drinking tea, and switched from Soda to beer. Gave up Van Halen, got hooked on Badly Drawn Boy. gave up Dashboard Confessional, got hooked on Sigur Ros. Gave up John Mayer, got hooked on Rufus Wainwright. Stopped listening to the radio. Stopped watching TV. Stopped eating junk food when I started to realize that I couldnt eat whatever I wanted to anymore. Started eating salads. Started listening to Talk Radio and getting into Politics. Started stuttering less. Started actually reading and stopped using ADD as an excuse for not doing things. And the biggest thing of all... Started talking about the future. Started planning things, being less spontaneous. Started setting goals. Man, 20's doesnt come right away, but when it does, you're drowning in it.

  8. Horray for TEA. Teavana is THE place for tea. Does anyone have a Teavana nearby? Go there! They have my favorite tea, which is a blend of Silver Needle (anti-oxidant madness and massive healing properties), and Rooibos Tropica (with dried tropical fruits)
  9. Come up with a concept and post a mixtape tracklist based off that concept. Doesnt have to be a real mixtape, just an idea. Any number of songs, as long as they can all fit on an 80min CD. If it goes over, make a 2CD set. I'll start with "My Perfect Mixtape" these are basically the songs I hold closest to me. Songs that are perfect to me. 1) Rufus Wainwright - Grey Gardens 2) Doves - Far from Grace 3) Rufus Wainwright - I Dont Know What It Is 4) David Mead - Painless 5) Badly Drawn Boy - All Possibilities 6) Ours - Fallen Souls 7) Sigur Ros - Track 5 from ( ) 8) Sufjan Stevens - Holland 9) Badly Drawn Boy - How? 10) Silverchair - Tuna in the Brine 11) Sigur Ros - Track 8 from ( ) 12) Jump, Little Children - Pigeon

exactly, it should NOT be a social statement, or a popularity thing. I admire people who choose not to follow the crowd. Each person has their own set of morals, and we should respect that. No one should try to convince someone to do something that they're uncomfortable with. What I think is that its not the act of drinking thats immoral, its the people who abuse it and their reasons behind it, its all in the intentions. Having wine at dinner has been a tradition for centuries, its an innocent thing. Of course, depending on someone's intentions, something innocent can turn into something immoral. Which is my point that its not drinking, its the people and the situation. Some people shouldnt drink. They lack the will-power and, quite frankly, they lack the personality. Yet most of these people who lack will-power and personality make up the majority of people who drink! They also, IMO have horrible taste in beer. I was against drinking back in highschool, because back then, all I was exposed to were my classmates. the kids who did it, did it for all the wrong reasons. I wasnt around anyone who was mature about it. So I didnt want anything to do with it. My dad ended up introducing me to the mature world of alcohol by buying me my first beer when I turned 21. It was innocent, it was a father/son moment. No fights broke out, no one lost their mind. Alcohol doesnt completely change a person. It only brings out traits that are already there to begin with. A good person will still be a good person when they're drunk, and a bad person will be even worse. No one is perfect, and alcohol can bring out our imperfections, but losing your mind doesnt happen to everyone who drinks. No matter how much alcohol I've consumed, I cannot fathom the desire to want to cheat on my girlfriend. If you cheat, dont blame the booze, its your own fault. People who blame alcohol for something they've done is just their way of trying to pin their mistakes on something else other than themselves. Own up to your mistakes. These people also shouldnt be drinking. Which brings me to say that alcohol isnt for everyone. It brings out certain qualities of a person's personality, and also brings out some hidden traits as well (making some people angry and violent, in that case, those people shouldnt drink). The key is to control yourself and the alcohol, not to let it control you. You really have to take it seriously and know what you're doing. food for thought: I've noticed that in a country like the US (where the drinking age is 21) people are more immature about alcohol, than in a country where there is no drinking age. To them, alcohol is a custom. To America, its taboo, and its human nature to rebel and move towards things that are taboo. What if America thought that teddy bears were taboo? People would have the same reaction to teddy bears that they do with alcohol. Its all how you perceive things. Everything in moderation, its all about will-power and maturity. Maturity in drinking, or maturity in not-drinking, its all the same. If you get drunk and cheat on your significant other, thats your own fault. Something inside you wanted to do it, the alcohol just brought that side of you out. People who depend on liquor to have a good time are seriously messed up. Which is why I'm not a fan of shots, it defeats the purpose of savoring your drink. Also, to condone the condemning of the consumption of alcohol, the Southern Baptists (and I'm not kidding) said that Jesus turned water into non-alcoholic wine. food for thought.

^^^^^ I second that post. ^^^^^ Drink lots of water, you're supposed to have eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. Alcohol will seriously dehydrate you, increasing the ammount of water you need. And eight glasses is standard. For everything you drink, always counter it with water. But dont over-drink water. Just remember the 8x8 rule when you're drinking. When drinking, remember to pace yourself! The people who get wasted first are always the ones who miss out on all the fun! And if you dont pace yourself, you wont have a pleasant evening and morning after, if you know what I mean. Dont try and break your record or anything, drink until you get drunk, then stop and drink only water until it goes away, then drink some more. Contrary to popular belief, getting wasted and throwing up is not "cool" or "hardcore" its actually stupid and amateurish. We all do it at first, but the ones who keep doing it are drinking for all the wrong reasons. Learn your limit of your favorite drink. An emergency only technique is to take alkaseltzer before you drink or before bed. The asprin in it takes away and bloating (if you're drinking beer), stomach aches, and headaches, but do not use this as an excuse to drink more. I've heard that the "Chaser" pills work really well, but I dont know enough about them. Learn to drink responsibly first without any pills or vitamins, then you can try Chaser and Alkaseltzer. With that said, eat, drink, and be merry! :sneaky:
  15. SUFJAN! He's one of those artists that I discovered "too late," so-to-speak, in that I had written songs that sounded like they could have been influenced by him but I hadn't even discovered his music yet. When I finally disovered it, it just spoke to me and I felt like I could relate to him as an artist. I love "Holland," its one of my favorite songs ever.
  16. Yes yes yes yes favorites are Across the Universe, Rocky Racoon, Blackbird, Yesterday, Hey Jude, All You Need is Love, Eleanor Rigby... bah, too many... you know, I noticed how most people who hate the beatles are young-uns who just dont understand what they've done for music.
  17. let him catch you reading the Bible... never fails...
  18. man, this scenario sounds all too familiar... That guy is basically the highschool version of myself. in all honesty, if he cant talk to his own girlfriend about his problems, then he's either with the wrong girl, or he's not ready for a relationship until he gets right with himself. Or even both. By being attached to something, you cant learn, you can only stay in your comfort zone. This means that all epiphanies, all signs, all learning experiences just wont happen, and he'll be shut-off to anything that sparks growth. He's too focused on his past, if he's saying that he fucked up his life. Right now he's got two comfort zones, a girlfriend (the idea of a girlfriend, not necessarily his girlfriend in particular), and someone to talk to about his problems (not necessarily you in particular). He's attached to the idea of having someone to talk to, and dependent on it. Meanwhile this is only going to send him further away from where he needs to be. Regardless, he has to get right with himself. No matter who he could be dating, he could still be having these problems, and only he can change that. If you give control of your life to someone else, you're going to basically lose sight of yourself.
  19. The Storm: Stories and Prose Poems By Kahlil Gibran Kahlil Gibran is AMAZING
  20. haha i bet people have already exceded their limit. I want to see EXPLOSIONS!
  21. oh no i was just being weird... I'm going to keep this one. I just had to get rid of Nemo since that film came out. I think people should only get to change their names every so often, or they should atleast add their old names into their sigs. Its just going to get confusing. It was confusing enough that Prince kept changing his name.
  22. hehe, i figured. I look different in every picture, its weird.
