ok, i have another guess on that line that's been bugging me. i don't know if it's been mentioned before, though...there's too much to sort through on this site these days! i think it's now: I don't want to be a soldier Or the captain of some sinking ship With Stow Far below like stow as in "stowage" or "cargo." that would make a lot of sense, though...a ship with cargo down below? fits perfectly to me, and i think it sounds like that's exactly what he's singing. this is, of course, assuming that the word "stow" can be used as a noun, which doesn't look too good. but chris hasn't always used perfect grammar etc in the past, so i think that there's a chance this might be it.

yeah, that worries me too. and billy idol immediately came to mind as well. i made a vow to myself back whenever we got the titles in 2007 that i wouldn't judge just based on the titles though, so i have an open mind. i don't think it'll be a piano ballad either, but i just don't want it to be as intense as violet hill is. i want to have confirmation that we're not going to need to take advils after listening to the album from all the intensity.

^the whole shabang cost me 11 pounds, or $22, and that's including the cheap method of shipping. i think $22 is TOTALLY worth it for coldplay, but i'm also kind of obsessed with records, so i'd do it anyway :P

i did too!!! i was like "wow, 'shit' in a coldplay song...they ARE doing things differently!" really?! that's awesome!! the whole "carnival of idiots" verse is my favorite in the song i think, just because it sounds so political. i think i'm going to start referring to the bush administration as the carnival of idiots. like, no joke.

oh my god, i can't believe we're going to do all of this again next week!! i think it'll be even MORE aggrivating, though, because we don't have a precise date and time to look forward to. basically, we're at the mercy of a) the royal mail and b) whichever coldplayer with a USB record player and a good heart gets it first. i'm thinking thursday it'll get up here in some form. if i was going to get it on time and had a record player that could make it into an MP3 i would do it in a heartbeat, but alas, i only have a normal record player, and with me living in america, i'll be lucky to get the thing by the following week.

Coldplay, thank you SO incredibly much for today and the wonderful song you gave us for free. I don't know if you can understand how happy you've made me (and others), in the long run and throughout this year with all the speculation and all the exciting news, but suffice it to say I would be having a much more miserable time at college without you and without this place! You're amazing for all that you do, but all the free stuff surrounding this album makes you even more amazing! ^And if I could just make one tiny request, it would be the one above. Any chance of having a London concert on August 2 or even August 3? If you could make this happen, I won't ever ask for anything else in my entire life, I promise :lol:

i just had yet another listen, and i don't think the line is "with snow" because it doesn't fit at all, but i can't say i think it sounds like "which is down," even though i wish it did. i like it that way! and it sounds like "armor," i must say, but yet again i like "honor" better. ok, and i really don't think the line is: When I'm dead and hit the ground A love back home Unfolds i think the bit in bold MUST be different, but i don't know how. might i once again express my love for the political vibe in these lyrics? I LOVE THE POLITICAL VIBE IN THESE LYRICS. :P

i have to say that when i was listening the first time on BBC1 this morning, i was like "oooooh this is so vintage coldplay" until about 0:53 (on the DL version, not the radio edit...so like 0:20 or something on the radio edit), when jonny comes in with that chord of distorted guitar. then i sat up straighter in surprise and instantly rethought my expectations. haha, that makes me laugh now in retrospect. i also loooove the way that chris sings the last word of the verses, like "low" and "below", like they have three syllables. that's my favorite part of the whole song :D

hard to say, yeah, without hearing the whole album and all the songs that they'll have to choose from in the set list, but i think this is a good contender for the opener. then "square one," then "politik." (assuming they're keeping both of those, of course)

oooh, that's a good point. for some reason i hadn't said it in so many words in my head, and that makes a lot of sense to me. with "speed of sound" as the first single off X&Y, i feel like they let us get into the change slowly, like they gave us the most AROBTTH song off the album for our first experience of it. not that they SHOULD have done that same thing for today, i'm just thinking that it very well could be a weird choice for a single. "thrown in the deep end" is a good way to think of it, i think :D

heh, yeah, it took me about an hour and a half just to access the page where you enter your email, and then about two more hours to get the email. luckily i had class in those two hours, so it was in my inbox when i got back. i was lucky to have a nice friend who recorded the radio show :D but the high-quality version really is much better. and longer! by about 40 seconds! i find it hard to believe that we're going to do all this again next week when we get "a spell a rebel yell" :wideeyed: though i think that might be MORE aggrivating just because we don't have a precise date or time for that one. basically, we'll get it when it shows up in a coldplayer's mailbox that has a USB recordplayer (or if they go out and get it). that could get me to the point of tearing out my hair. and i thought this was bad.

i wouldn't say violet hill is "poor," nor would i use the word "disappointed" for me, but i kind of really see where everyone is coming from. even though i really, really like the song for what it is, i have to say that i was expecting something really different, and i'm worried that VLVOD will just be X&Y 2.0. apparently this is the hardest of the songs on the album, and jo whiley did say today that fans of coldplay's oldest material like "shiver" and "yellow" (she cited those two examples specifically) would especially love VLVOD, so i'm staying optimistic. i like the song, though. i like it a hell of a lot. i want to state that again. i just hope the album is varied in style, yet still cohesive. and that they're not forgetting where they came from and the sound that everyone loved so much from the start. i don't want them to make an AROBTTH 2.0 either (well, not really :sneaky:), but i just need to keep reminding myself that this is just ONE SONG and not the entire ALBUM, so i think maybe we should reserve our judgements about their new direction until we know more about it.

i feel like i now fully understand how chris meant the whole "we plagarize from everyone" comments. in this song, i hear a bit of U2, muse, radiohead (VERY small amount), the killers...other things i can't think of right now.
