Review Death Cab For Cutie's Narrow Stairs -
i'm currently in love with this album. there are definitely stand out songs for me, particularly "cath..." and "grapevine fires," and although i do have to say that it's not much different than their previous stuff at all (besides "i will possess your heart" a bit), i'm not one that needs every album to be mindblowingly different for it to be good. my opinion might change once i'm less excited about it and the novelty wears off, but for now i think this is on par with the photo album, transatlanticism, and plans, definitely. i think it's completely awesome :D

The Official Exam Thread
i turned in two papers today and took my russian exam in 20 minutes. he made it a hell of a lot easier and shorter than any of us expected...even though i did muck of some of the chronology a bit. i don't think i got less than a B, though! ok, just astronomy left and i'm OUT OF HERE!

Your Dream Home.

The my day on wikipedia thread!

Your second favourite website?
ohhh yeah, i forgot cnn. and youtube. and last.fm. and stalking the official coldplay site, checking out the cafeteria menus at my school weeks ahead of time, looking at the weather...oh! and IMDB!! i spend too much time on there too.

This is the wartime broadcasting service
argh, the radiohead song first made me think of this question, and now this thread (killer song, though). i hate thinking about this shit because i just can't possibly imagine the sense of absolutely 100% hopeless doom. i feel a bit queasy thinking about it, actually. but what i would do would entirely depend on where i was when i heard the warning and what was available for me to do at the time. i guess i'd probably just run around in hysterics like a headless chicken until i got blown to bits, but if i was actually being practical, maybe i'd take out my ipod and listen to a favorite song. or something. my god, i hate thinking about it. EDIT: i thought of the snow patrol vid tooooo!

If there was no coldplaying.com no more...
ugh, i don't even want to think about it. but i would have quite a bit of time that i wouldn't know what to do with, and i'd definitely be pretty lost. and i wouldn't have a one-stop-shop for everything coldplay! that would be pretty annoying. nay, terrible. *shudder*

The my day on wikipedia thread!
oh man, this thread is like what i do everyday. i'm kind of in love with wikipedia, and ending up in completely random pages is the story of my life. yesterday i somehow went from perestroika to...coldplay. and yes, it was all linked somehow, though i don't rememeber how. i think i need to start documenting my weird wiki-ventures, because they're hilarious. this is exactly why i love wiki so much. it's the best thing out there, i think. yeah, i tend to get to freaky topics too. lots of not-nice things too, like wars and conflicts etc. i don't think i've ever been to death, though. that's almost too freaky for my liking. but lots of mental illnesses and strange things like that.

Death Cab For Cutie!
ditto, i got the leak, and i'm in love. i completely fail to see how it's different than their previous stuff minus "i will possess your heart," but i don't care because i think it's that good. i'm in love with "grapevine fires," "cath...," and "your new twinsize bed" in particular. absolutely fabulous. i like every single song on it.

Violet Hill Video Exclusive: Tuesday 13 May On Channel 4
i hope it's a story that the guys themselves take part in, a la "talk" or the UK "trouble." i'm a firm believer in the fact that the bandmembers themselves should be the ones acting in the video. GPASUYF was good, especially because it was paddy considine, but i just like the ones with the guys playing the parts better. and when they're all involved, not just chris. as long as there are no old ladies in spandex and men in thongs, i think it'll be an improvement over the last one. i'm good with a performance one, though, as long as it's creatively shot. i think "speed of sound" was beautifully shot and was very un-boring...actually pretty much all of their performance videos are in my opinion, so maybe i shouldn't say anything. but i think the second half of "fix you" gets a bit tedious, and "clocks" verges on it as well. if i can find it, i'll dig up the old "if you could direct a coldplay video" thread or whatever it was called so we can hypothesize more creatively :sneaky:

Pictures, webcams, mugshots etc etc etc

Violet Hill Video Exclusive: Tuesday 13 May On Channel 4
ahhh! YAY!! :cheesy: music videos in general make me disproportionately happy (good ones, i mean). 9 DAYS TILL A NEW COLDPLAY VIDEO?! yes, please!! but someone PLEAAAAASE record it if they can? half of me thinks we might get it around the same time in the US, but then again i don't think american radio has even really caught on to the song yet, so i'm not too hopeful. i know it'll be on youtube, but the question is, HOW QUICKLY?! :P i have no patience when it comes to coldplay matters. *squee*

Gwyneth...
thank you for this!! it's a great interview, and hearing moses in the background is pretty adorable. i hate how people think she's a total bitch. i just don't understand how you can hear her in an interview and think that she is not a nice, polite, intelligent, down-to-earth person. (and thanks for the picture mimi!! :D)

The Official Exam Thread
agh, i'm definitely in. i have a russian exam tomorrow and an astronomy and astrophysics exam on thursday, with three papers due next week. GAH. and yet i still sleep till noon and then come on here, just to make sure i didn't miss anything. i was pretty damn good yesterday, though: a little check-in during a study break and then only on after about 10:00 when i was done studying for the night. BLERGH, EXAMS. the funny thing was, i woke up this morning (...erm, this afternoon, actually about an hour ago) and was CONVINCED VLVOD had leaked overnight. thank god it didn't, because i have to write an entire paper today and revise another, and if VLVOD leaked...well then i'd fail russian, no question. i wouldn't be able to resist spending at least two hours only listening to the album. well good luck to everyone else! we're almost done!

Violet Hill - Another Anti-Bush song?
ahh, well when i said that i thought the song (or parts of the song) was about the bush administration 100%, i meant that i 100% believed it was, not that 100% of the song was about that ;). i just tend to say "100%" a lot when i really believe something :P. i need to make myself more clear in subjects like this. but yeah, i hope my sig doesn't really offend anyone. i debated putting it up, actually, and if it really bothers someone enough, i'll take it down. it's just that i think that line definitely references the bush adminstration and i like it, so i decided to have some fun in photoshop :D.

Gwyneth...
simon pretended to break chris's neck and apple was scared? i find that hilarious and adorable at the same time. i'd kind of love to see that scene. well, i'd kind of just like to see chris and simon being hilarious together, because they're like two of my favorite people ever. poor apple, though! thanks for all this, mimi!!

Violet Hill - Another Anti-Bush song?
^i completely disagree, but i know that it's a hazy matter with arguments for both sides. i also don't think violet hill is about the iraq war, or that the song is entirely about bush. i think that the "carnival of idiots" line references the bush administration, i think the "banks became cathedrals" line has got something to do with the sad state of the economy, and the whole apocalyptic theme to the song is kind of a look into the future of what could happen etc etc. these are all just my interpretations though. as i said in another thread, music is completely subjective, and everyone interprets them how they want. this is just how i take them, and i certainly don't think that there's a right or wrong answer to all of this.

Violet Hill Reviews
here's what rolling stone had to say in the newest issue (i hope no one's posted it yet, but i don't have the time to check...): MUST HAVE--Coldplay, "Violet Hill" Sad-sack Superstars get Angry and Crank Up the Rock By all accounts, Chris Martin is a happily married man with two kids and an enormously successful career--so why does he sound so angry? On the first single from Coldplay's forthcoming album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, Martin broods over a lost lover with a snarling acidity that makes him sound more human than ever--miles away from the dreamy romantic he was on soaring ballads like "Speed of Sound." "If you love me, why'd you let me go?" he sings in deep, longing tones, and it sounds like desperation. Throughout, Jonny Buckland rips jagged, bluesy riffs that match Martin's mood while drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman mantain a stalking beat. Coldplay have never been afraid to get gloomy, but for the first time in their career, they've turned bitterness into primal rock & roll. it sounds like they like it! however, it being RS, i have to say i'm a bit surprised that they didn't explore the potential political implications...hmm.

How Many Times Have You Listened to Violet Hill?
yes i do. 100%. that's how i interpret them, anyway, and music is completely subjective, but i think that's how chris intended them too. really, there are too many connections to him and to the economy etc etc for me to deny them, but i don't think everyone has to interpret them that way. wow, i thought i'd listened to it a lot, but some people have completely blown my playcount out of the water!

Violet Hill - Another Anti-Bush song?
hahahaha, my sig has a thread! (well, sorta :P) in my opinion, the song is 100% about the bush administration. i realize that the song and that verse in particular apply to lots of other regimes etc, but i feel that it applies to the bush administration 100%. i think that the "idiots" are the entire bush administration rather than just him, because that whole white house is a carnival of idiots in my opinion. i don't think that you have to be an american citizen to care about and to comment on the insane state of our political system and our economy, and i think that's exactly what chris is doing in violet hill. that's just me, though :D EDIT: david, bush wasn't exactly elected, depending on your view of the whole florida debacle in 2000. he was elected in 2004, fine, but he wouldn't have been elected then if he hadn't been selected back in 2000.
