  1. ok, so i have this once class in which we don't do ANYTHING related to the subject (which is art & politics; a required seminar). the professor is HILARIOUS and is basically a teenager mentally. today he opened class with the line "nappy time is happy time" and we talk about everything from the US elections to music to movies...really nothing related to the topic. so today we got to talking about what posters we have on our dorm walls, and i was like "coldplay and radiohead." and my professor (who is REALLY with the current music scene--he occasionally writes for some pretty big music magazines like spin, etc.) so he looks at me with this huge smile and goes "ah, coldplay. coldplay are PUSSIES." i think my eyes lit up in an amused rage because he cracked up and said "ooh, i touched a nerve there!" and i laughed and said "i will defend coldplay with my LIFE." even though he insulted coldplay, this professor is so insane and hilarious that i never take his opinion seriously. i just had to share that line, because i never expected coldplay to come up in a class in that context. oh man.
  2. HAHAHAA ohhh my god, this is insane. my particular favorites are the chris/jude and the chris/jonny. i've always maintained that chris is simply a slightly geekier and average looking version of jude law, and morphed together, they're rather...complimentary. i rest my case. and the chris/jonny...well. you can't get better than that :D oh, and the house one! people have always said that chris and hugh are similar-looking, but i never really saw it until this morph!
  3. oops, sorry, double post
  4. i think that list is pretty damn shocking. as much as i love coldplay, i'm kind of surprised they made that list, beating out led zeppelin and the who and bowie and the stones?! jeez. and oasis and even radiohead beating the beatles?! i like the list overall, personally, but it's just not something i ever would have expected. keane?! i like keane, but WTF?!
  5. i would walk around feeling totally clueless and disconnected for probably about two weeks. at first i'd probably think it was still up and have to constantly remind myself that it doesn't exist anymore, then i'd start tearing my hair out once i remember that it's dead, and then i'd probably just get used to it. but i'd miss all of you terribly, and i wouldn't be able to get my news or my coldplay info or even talk to my highschool friends in the same way anymore, and that would be crippling. but eventually we'd all get used to it if it never came back. i just don't want to have to, because my computer and the internet are my life.
  6. my friend applied to cambridge (as well as UCL and king's college) and got into all of them, and is currently at cambridge. however, she's SUPER BRILLIANT and the whole process (particularly for cambridge) was rigorous, and there aren't very many undergraduate americans at oxbridge, according to her. so i would say its pretty hard, at least for the top-tier unis. though sometimes i hear that schools outside of england are actually LOOKING for american students, but i don't have any concrete source to back that up. the difference with british/european schools (it seems to me) is that you pretty much HAVE to know what you want to do when you apply, unlike in american colleges (in america, the terms "university" and "college" are interchangeable :D) where you don't have to decide usually until you're at the end of sophomore year (second year). if it wasn't for that, i probably would have applied to british schools. but i plan to do a year abroad in london when i'm a junior (third year), which is MUCH easier and MUCH less painful to do application-wise, and probably even money-wise. would you be willing to just do a year or two rather than the full four years?
  7. coldplay live 2003 concert for george (harrison) live 8 radiohead live at the astoria the beatles first us visit (several concerts in one week) a bunch of pearl jam ones (they're my mom's) a U2 one from the vertigo tour and i also have coldplay live at the air canada center in 2006 on my computer...must burn that to DVD one of these days once i find a DVD burner to borrow.
  8. ^haha, well, i'm not christian, but i always have half a mind to give up something for lent just for the hell of it, like as a test to myself. i don't think i've ever done it, or even seriously decided on something to give up, but this year it crossed my mind to give up coldplaying! (i could never give up coldplay itself--i probably would never sleep and would go insane). but i just couldnt do it: when the site was down a few weeks ago, i almost exploded, thinking i was missing both important news and talking to people on here. so that would just be too painful for 40 days. and because i'm bored, just for the hell of it i typed "coldplay: into my uni library's catalogue, and all the CP CDs are currently checked out! i don't know, it makes me happy that somewhere on campus, people are checking out coldplay, probably for the first time.
  9. um, what? i can't say i believe this at all :laugh4:
  10. has no one mentioned "motion picture soundtrack" yet?! my god, that one is like, the epitome of a suicide song. "red wine and sleeping pills," "i'll see you in the next life"...like every line could relate to suicide to me. also "videotape" (already mentioned), "prove yourself" (perfect!), "no surprises" (already been mentioned as well, but i like to think that its not about suicide despite it being pretty obvious), and "talk show host." there's the radiohead quota :D
  11. argh, justin beat me by one...:laugh4:
  12. ALL TIME: the beatles, coldplay, radiohead, U2, the strokes. CURRENTLY: radiohead, coldplay, travis, oasis, jack's mannequin CURRENT TOP 5 SONGS: motion picture soundtrack (RH), there there (RH), wonderwall (oasis), side (travis), idioteque (RH) how many gold stars is that, huh, briggs? :D i think i'm quite appealing to your kid a-loving side...
  13. 1. warning sign--the soft, wavering guitar in the intro 2. clocks--at the very end, the fade out, where it's just chris playing the piano riff and jonny playing little three or four-note guitar lines. 3. SHIVER. all of it. ohhh, and sooooo many more! like the riff in IMP! hellooooo?!
  14. heh, i've actually really tried to get into muse in the past. and while i respect their music and think theyre really talented and great showmen, it's just not really my thing. i'm more into softer stuff, i guess. but i WAS able to get (obsessively) into radiohead through this board, and it seems as though most people here tend to like coldplay and then either muse or radiohead (or both, but usually one more than the other). i've just fallen on the radiohead side of the spectrum :D thanks for the info, though!
  15. its still cool! i didnt know it had anything to do with muse, though...i guess you can tell i'm not really a muse fan.
  16. i think jonny's, then will's. chris definitely has the worst, but it's the most unique.
  17. blarg, can we STOP making the "new stars" thread bold?! :laugh1: i get so excited every time i see it as a new, unread thread! BTW, semy, that's actually really really cool...you made that?
  18. i don't know, i've always kind of liked valentine's day even though i've never technically had a valentine. i just like people being nice to people, whether they're a couple or not, and it's nice to see everyone else getting nice things. but i've just had a really good day today in general, regardless of valentines day. well, maybe it had something to do with that--there were free massages and free build-a-bears in my school's student center! and lots and lots of desserts! and my mom sent me a huge package...i don't know, i just like the spirit of the day
  19. ah, lore, i remember your coldplay week! of course it wasnt nearly as exciting for me as it was for you, but i would check every day for your updates and pictures and was SOOO JEALOUS of you!! i think you've probably had one of the best coldplay experiences out of everyone on the board!

that's horrible. i'm so sorry, grace. things like that really devastate a community. we recently just got a new headmaster (well, i'm not a student there anymore, so i should probably say "they"), so if he died i don't know what the reaction would really be, but we had this one headmaster for most of my time there who was just one of the greatest people i've ever met in my life, and he just WAS our school, he was the embodiment of it. if he died, even though he left, i think our school would have a similar reaction. i hope your school will be alright as well.
  21. opposites? day and night (AHDN) X&Y (X&Y) war and...children? (war) bah, i dont know.
  22. ^:cheesy: :bomb: of course i'm not letting myself truly believe it, because i know how things like this (and wikipedia) work, but WOW. if any of that is actually true: YAY. i must say that i kind of like the title "chassis for a soul"! and if they're actually planning to give us album details the first week of march...THAT'S TWO WEEKS. EEEEEEEEEE! (only if that's all true...) thanks for that!
  23. the perfect valentines day thread  my all-time favorite chris/jonny pic is the one in my ever-present avi <---------------
  24. my alarm to wake me up today was "crests of waves," and GUESS what we did in astronomy? light waves! my teacher said "crests of waves" about six times, and i smiled every time. and we talked about light the entire day, and the two songs that came up on my ipod as i was walking back to my dorm after class were "black star" (radiohead) and "proof"! (liiiiiiiiiiight and dark...). made me quite happy :D
