It's like a cigarette in the mouth or a handshake in the doorway.
^:laugh4: i loooooove the killers. i do really like sam's town, and sawdust is pretty good, but hot fuss is really what gets me about them. its just like, a soundtrack to a weekend out. god i love that album. sam's town is really stereotypical american in my opinion, though i probably think that because i don't come from the areas of the country that the songs and topics are relevant to and have a bit of a different idea of the american dream. in new england we like to pretend that we model ourselves on a more global standard rather than just an american one. not that it works :D

How much does New York cost?
NYC is kind of an expensive place to visit. hotels are insanely expensive by american standards; i think decent ones will run you about $130 a night. hostels are better, obsviously, and i've never been in one in NYC as i live less than an hour away, but i hear they're pretty dingy and sketchy and gross compared to other american ones. food is also ridiculously overpriced, as well as gas (petrol). transport by metro (subway) is pretty cheap, but cabs are crazy expensive. museums i'm not so sure about because i've always gone with school and never have actually paid, but i think they're probably between $20 and $50? other events will be even more expensive. all in all, it's just an overpriced place. of course, this is "expensive" on american terms. brits and other europeans FLOCKED over here on the weekends before xmas to do all their shopping because goods are a fraction of the price they are in europe given the exchange rate from the pound/euro to the dollar. so maybe to a european it wouldn't be expensive? i'm not so sure; economics aren't my thang :D

On The Chance of a Song Leak...
^i dont know whether or not i think there will be a leak. they try so hard to protect these things, and while there is a very good chance of leaks, there are entire teams of people whose job it is to guard unreleased music. while lots and lots of things are leaked, lots aren't. it could go either way. but in the event of a song leak, i WILL be downloading. i just dont have the patience or the willpower to protest because its the right thing to do. it wont stop me from buying the album, so i dont see the harm in it.

How did you discover Coldplay?
ooh, well this is a LONG story... but in short, my mom had AROBTTH and listened to it constantly for about 3 months but i was too obsessed with the beatles to care about anything else. i did respect their music, though, and "clocks" and "IMP" were EVERYWHERE in america that year, so i pretty much knew who they were. eventually "clocks" made it onto my ipod, but i only listened to it occasionally. then in 2005, one of my friends was bouncing off the walls because coldplay had a new single. i never got around to listening to it on her ipod, but one day i was watching VH1 megahits and the words "coldplay, speed of sound, X&Y" came up on the corner of the screen and i sat down to give them a try. by the end of that 3-minute music video, i was in love forever. i saw them live in august, and the day after on a 10 hour drive up to maine, i listened to their entire repitoire non-stop :D

I hate my brother.
well, she only gets the accent when she's angry, so we're usually in the mood for a good bitch-fest when she uses that voice :P ahh, gogol bordello...i cant say their music is really for me, but i really respect them and what theyre doing. and its really nice to have a famous ukrainian...there aren't too many! gotta represent my people! :D

I hate my brother.
i've got a 15 year old brother; i'm 18. i used to absolutely hate him, but in the past year, with me living at home without being stressed with school, things have gotten a lot better and we generally get on now. though now i'm at uni, and i bet once i go home (NEXT WEEKEND!!!!) i think it'll be even better. hahaha, emily, my brother occasionally mocks a ukrainian accent as well, but i do too because my mom has a ukrainian accent and we do it to make fun of her :D

Coldplay, warm hearts
:dead: :dead: :dead: well, now i have to see this film APRIL 11?!?!?! that's like approx. a MONTH away!!!! ok, someone that lives in the UK HAS to sneak an MP3 recoder into the movie theater and record the song and upload it here!!! because unless theyre going to release a single before then, that will be the FIRST new coldplay music in so long, and there's no word on a US or rest of the world release date yet! i'll think of a good bribe, but someone has to get us this song if it's not going to be on the soundtrack.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
watched wedding crashers last night and when "sparks" came on in that scene, for some reason it filled me with the biggest feeling of excitement for the new album! it was like this really concentrated love and excited feeling. i think it had something to do with just hearing coldplay in a movie or on TV (i always get really happy when they're used in movies, etc), but OMG, i'm just SO EXCITED. then after that "sparks" scene was over, my roommate asked me "wait, was that coldplay?" and i was like "um, YES." she asked for parachutes (she has the other two), so i'll give her the CD later. i love spreading CP love

Radiohead Survivor - Hail To The Thief - Round 1
eh, i'd have a really hard time voting in this poll too, not because i love it so much, but because i don't listen to it in full enough to make an educated decision on what to eliminate each round. as long as "there there" makes it, i'm imparticular of what happens. maybe i'll pop in and vote in the very final rounds to make sure "there there" stays in :sneaky:

Radiohead
^by national i assume this doesn't include the US?? in that case, i'd KILL for you to upload it!!!!

Dave Holmes via Billboard: Coldplay Finish Fourth Album | Summer Tour On Its Way!

Dave Holmes via Billboard: Coldplay Finish Fourth Album | Summer Tour On Its Way!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! i hope this means that they post something on the official site next week! i think it does, because it sounds like everything is squared away, and it seems like they quasi-promised to tell us something then...YAY! and summer USA tour?! YES. this means i don't have to sacrifice uni! and i can go in NYC, which i'm more comfortable with.

Radiohead
^^^i completely agree with mo. i love both coldplay and radiohead to death, but i've just never seen how its viable to compare them. i think there are musical similarities in pablo honey and the bends a little bit, but beyond that i don't personally think you can really call coldplay copycats of radiohead. theyre not alike on a personal level at all, either, and mo's right about the music being about completely different things. in these ways, i really think it is apples and oranges: it's just not worth putting them next to each other because there aren't similarities anymore. even most of the media have dropped this "radiohead copycats" line, i think. i don't think that coldplay being more "catchy" and getting on the radio and being more mainstream makes them any less of a good band. i think i have a very different opinion of what "selling out" is compared to most people, but i've never seen why a band getting more famous and popluar is a bad thing. and i think coldplay are amazing and infinitely talented within the more mainstream genre, which is what matters. they don't sound like everyone else on the radio, or at least they didnt before all the coldplay-copiers sprang up, and that's what makes a difference to me. it's true that radiohead are more revolutionary and legendary and groundbreaking, and that's what a large part of their appeal is based on: their "strangeness". they're freaking geniuses. sometimes i can't get over how brilliant their ideas are, how they make them work. but i don't think this makes them a quantitatively better band than anyone else simply because they're a bit off and push the envelope more. and i don't think being more mainstream makes coldplay any better than radiohead or any ofher band. i think i just take bands as bands and i don't generally compare them to each other simply because i don't think you can compare two bands to each other like we do so often with coldplay and radiohead. someone will always like one better than the other for some personal reason that can't be fully understood by anyone else. i'm not saying stop debating, of course :D. by all means, debate on! i'm just saying that i think we should all just keep in mind that we're all right and we're all wrong. because sometimes (not right here, not right now) i think someone says something that touches a nerve in someone else and it can feel like a bit of a personal attack. i know people have gotten upset in the past. all i'm saying is that we should remember that we're discussing opinions, not debating hard cold facts. now yall probably think i'm some sort of control freak or something...:D bring on the shunning.

Perfumes
my favorite is stella mccartney's perfume, which smells like roses. but its so expensive that i only use it on special occasions. i'm not one to spend $75 on freaking perfume more than once every two years. i'd rather spend the money on music and movies. but every day i wear mandarin jasmine from gap, which i LOVE and only costs $30, which i'm willing to put up with. i get compliments on it all the time, and i dont usually say its from gap...

Gunmen on campus today
don't even get me STARTED on gun control in the US. i just want to flip a shit every single time i hear one of these stories, because to me the solution (or at least the way to drastically decrease the number) is so damn obvious. at my old school/highschool, i always felt so safe. that place was my home and i grew up there for 13 years. but now that i'm at a new uni that i dont know so well, and now that i dont know every nook and cranny of campus and every single student that goes here, it really freaks me out. i feel so much more vulnerable at uni than i did at highschool.

Briggins hands out shiny golden stars
exactly. i don't care what you like, as long as you like it for a reason other than it being "in" to like that band, or because everyone else likes it. and as long as you don't preach to me about why i should love that band as well, and that i'm a loser or somehow mentally inferior because i don't. i let everyone like what they like (as long as its for a good, defendable reason) and accept it. and as long as you're not attacking someone for liking a certain band, then i think friendly debate and gushing about the band is fine. :D

If You Had 1 Hour To Live...
well, realistically, i'd spend all of that time absoultely freaking out and rushing around like a headless chicken with everyone else in the world. but if we're talking like, what i would do before i die if i could realistically get it/do it...i think it would involve listening to AROBTTH, eating at my favorite mexican restaurant, being with my favorite people, and perhaps meeting coldplay and radiohead. well, ok, if i could have anything, i would meet coldplay and they would play a private concert in my living room. then i could die happy.

Radiohead
exactly. i really like all of those artists that i mentioned, and most of those albums would be in my personal top 10 list, but a public top 50 list?! i think only oasis and radiohead come even remotely close to earning being on that list by public critical standards. i think it has a lot to do with time in the business and in the spotlight as well as critical acclaim. GREAT pics, BTW! thanks! :D
