Food from another culture that has some importance to that culture?
Interesting, cacik sounds something like the cold soup I have had - beet juice, milk / cream, pickles sliced thin or shredded, dill, a little vinegar or lemon juice, and dash o' salt. Though the mint or thyme would be quite an unusual flavor combo! Good hot weather fare - thanks!

Welcome to the Island of Florida, where it's 32C every day! (and muggy!) It's funny how either extreme can be a bit much, right now snow sounds delightful :) I can only imagine weather; this place is like San Diego but warmer & with thunderboomers now and then.

What a variable country; snowstorms in Minnesota, Hot muggy sunny days ahead for us in Florida! I suppose analagous to the northernmost parts of Europe compared to the south of France or Italy, this time of year? Ice storms are so cool (when not having to drive in one!!) all the trees glisten intensely in the sun the day after, and then crackle and rattle when the wind bends the branches and makes joints in the ice sheath - quite the sensory experience!

The Awesome Random Posting Thread
Truly rAnDoM Post http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/energy/2012/12/121206-high-voltage-dc-breakthrough/ I was discussing DC and AC brush motors and power transmission with George, appropriate here in the wintering grounds of Edison, and began recalling a discussion about high voltage DC lines, which are being used for renewable sources & are coming along nicely! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-voltage_direct_current A ladder to the sun is in the works, each day we add more rungs.

:husky::huskyhug: Hello Macie, Glad you have great talent on the piano! It's fun to play along, have you tried experimenting with you own sounds as well? I never got to see any concerts either, but Coldplay's music is still fun!

Humanitarian Concerns
I'm not sure where this fits in, so help me out please! A great many crises afflict humanity, not all are from natural disasters, but rather from conditions of poverty, prolonged drought, or population displacement from wars, so I thought it would be good to have a thread for discussion about these issues. Palestinian refugees from Syria have fled into Lebanon escaping the conflict, and they need help! http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fanera.convio.net%2Fsite%2FR%3Fi%3DZuULEqI2JEtJZo0VfvnWqg&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNEAO8MNe5UWWvBe17ZKPojWlfTDdA

OK sounds good! I've come to the conclusion that the tiddley pom principle works best; I've returned to the optimism of my youth, since it was there that I knew I could jump through the hurtles in life, and always found a way. Anyhow, hope all is well with everyone. And in an interesting sidenote, Jackie Robinson, #42!:) Amazing coincidences.

What are you reading right now?
Truly a masterpiece, though a bit tragic. A wikipedia entry on Jacques Cousteau has my interest at the moment, thinking about whales and something truer to their nature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cousteau

What's the weather like today in your town?
Wish it would warm up in England, though it can't be all too cold(?). YAY for sun!!! Here, it's a placid 82F, oddly it clouds up but doesn't rain here in Florida. Back home, 50F! Snowmen are running for the lakes, getting their feet wet.

What are you reading right now?
Time allocation limits my choices right now, but I'm glad to see everyone's found time to read good books though. I was fingering through a splendid picture book on Quebec, 1850-1950, reminiscent of the northern tier states - quite nice!

Yes, frozen bananas look like bad ones, and they do look scary, but are pretty good in breads! I like the colorful one, better tasting. Banana splits are great! Somewhere I saw someone frying bananas and then dipping them in chocolate.. hm.. where was that?

What are you thinking right now?
Thinking about the Beatles breakup, and then later when they all met up in Los Angeles, Paul said it was as though they had never broken up. Everyone's got their reasons, goodbye doesn't have to be forever. Ovens can be tricky, best to watch the first batch of gingerbread closely! ;)

BΔSTILLE //
I like what I hear! And in an odd coincidence, Edward was telling me the tale of one of the closest living descendants to the old kings and Queens of France, and this fellow is a carpenter living in Canada! Maybe things come round full circle in time?

The best bananas are the seedy ones! (they've got all the flavor) There's quite a difference when compared to the Cavendish variety, and variety is the spice of life. Which types do you prefer?
