The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
oh, nm then. I would kill to have an MLS team within a 100 miles of here. I know it all boils down to unwillingness for entrepreneurs and cities to make the investment, but there's something fundamentally wrong about there being 3 teams in california (two sharing the same stadium), three in Canada (including Montreal) while the whole southeast really has nothing. I mean, I support the local NPSL team, but its kind of sad that the next team will probably be the New York Cosmos, with the league already almost full up. /rant over. Good luck in the final, too bad Davis is out.

haha, don't you support Dallas? (not that prevents you from being excited about other teams in the state). I was a kinda shocked by the result, but Houston does have a better midfield than Sporting. Good luck in L.A. :P

So what monstrosity are you going as this Halloween?
didn't really dress up, but in my college poetry class a guy came in with a transformers helmet and kept it on for the whole class while asking serious, deadpan questions about the reading. Good stuff.

New Coldplay eh?
I relistened to it with headphones. The first 20 minutes are really very good. Still can't get over the drop off though. not as bad as before, still least favorite album. They really should've taken it easy on the synths.

ha, this was entertaining. Hurts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, and Us Against The World are still fine songs. The interludes are actually great, and I don't completely hate Paradise. The whole album struggles with serious production issues, and unforgivably bad lyrics. On the whole the songs are so disconnected and oddly put together that it's just impossible for me to take it seriously as an album in a way anything close to the other four. There's just no essence to it. At least all of the other albums had a solid identity to them. At least there was a cohesiveness and fullness to X&Y, while here they've just eschewed all that for the radio friendliness of ridiculous two-bit melodic gimmicks. UFO is pleasant enough, but lyrically its just stale. None of the emotion is earned on the album, there's no narrative. It's a mixtape of trying-too-hard pop anthems. They're just tunes which I may enjoy, but will always be completely indifferent to. There's nothing to relate to, it's one-dimensional accessibility has made it completely inaccessible to people who are used to actually attaching themselves emotionally to albums. It's like they've taken strides to make themselves appealing to the dead of our generation. On the whole really pathetic and disappointing. I hope pitchfork tears them to shreds in the most snobbish, condescending way possible.

Well, that sucked. I'm amazed to find Princess of China, Up In Flames, and Don't Let It Break Your Heart to be far worse than teardrop (imho). What the hell were they thinking? Up In Flames especially is just insult to injury insofar as it feels like they weren't even trying.

Now that you've heard the album, rank the songs
1. Us Against The World 2. Charlie Brown 3. M.M.I.X. 4. Hurts Like Heaven 5. Major Minus 6. Mylo Xyloto 7. Up With The Birds 8. U.F.O. 9. Paradise 10. A Hopeful Transmission 11. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall 12. Princess of China 13. Don't Let It Break Your Heart 14. Up In Flames

I'll listen between classes an hour or so from now. I once cared enough to wait, but after hearing the steaming pile that is princess of china, the band has everything to prove to me. Already familiar with five/six of the songs, it's not a matter of impressing me so much as helping me to come to terms with what they've become.

The 10th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes due Mon., Aug. 8 @ 5 pm CST (GMT -6))
Okay, so I know this tape wasn't made specifically for me, but regardless, I really enjoyed it. Also, Replacing the cover art for the songs were some lovely photos of a sunset near an ocean, I assume the mixmaker took those photos? If so, I'm curious where they're from. Anyway: 1. Soft keyboards with a buzzing bass noise behind a youngish singing voice. This is pleasant, great start for a tape anyway. More instruments slowly enter, I like the use of distortion, with the vocals, great melody. Great start. 2. Pretty sure this is James Blake, yup. Not THAT familiar with him, but I love the use of keyboards and autotune here. 3. Cheery piano arpeggios, ahah, this must be early Beach House. I don’t have all their albums, but the voice and arrangement is unmistakeable. Really great song, love the closing stretch. Flawless tape so far. 4. Bubbly Synth arpeggios with a voice loop in the distance. Mellow guitar riff enters. I like the rich ambience. Voice is an odd blend of Brandon Flowers and some one else I can’t put my finger on. Another catchy tune, curious to see who this is. 5. Picked guitar in right panel accompanied by strums in the left and a distant keyboard. Drums and Bass enter. Neutral on this so far. Not crazy about the vocals, bridge adds dimension, but altogether nothing I’d get excited about. 6. Haha, Adele. Great song, but after hearing it 200 times in San Francisco, half of me wants to shoot myself :P. Oh, turning into a remix now, and a quirky one at that. I like the percussion, alright, I’m cool with this. 7. Infective beat with keyboard. A poppy rap song. A lot of interesting elements to this, though far from my favorite on the mix. Warming up to it a bit, not bad. 8. Guitar riff sliding up and down neck. Not a fan, yet. Yeah, sorry, not really into it. 9. Strongly strummed acoustic guitar with cloppy percussion. Chorus of voices enter. Alright so far, still waiting for something to happen. Like the previous song, it’s a little too middle of the road for my taste, however I do like the chords and the general feel of the song. Yeah, by the end it’s safe to say that I like this song. 10. Solo piano playing a poppy four chord tune. Reminds me a lot of George Winston. I sometimes dismiss pop piano dressed up as classical (i.e. Yiruma), but this is pretty well done, a keeper. Thanks! 11. Nicely played acoustic guitar arpeggios. Very pleasant voice followed by a whistling bridge. This is really lovely. I want to know who this is, one of my favorites on the tape though it’s only about 2 minutes. 12. More acoustic guitars, but with a solemn feel. Voice is nice enough. Can’t get as invested in it as I’d like to be, but it’s well done, and the ending is nice. 13. Last song. Haha, okay, it’s a live duet cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” with acoustic guitar, though with slightly different chords during the chorus, I think. Never liked the original, but this is interesting and quite well done. Nice way to end the tape. *applause at the end* Overall a very good tape. My favorites were probably 1, 3, 4, 7, and 11. :D

What would your life be like if you had not joined Coldplaying?
I would of cured cancer. But would I do it all again?....probably.

Do you ever say to your self "My life is perfect"?
I know this will change with my post, but the juxtaposition of this thread title right above "what do you when you hate your life and want to die" is just about the most awesome thing ever.
