  1. lets hope the rest of the UK and US agree with you. australia is desperate for another big international band especially after wolfmother imploded.
  2. look im with most of you on the horrible order of the list. but it doesnt really bother me. i just think that that's an excellent selection of songs. if i was to choose my 100 favourite songs of all time most of them would be in it. the people who voted in that poll are people who are into a diverse range of music and believe me if you're not then you wont be able to listen to that station for more than 5mins. if someone sat me down and made me listen to those 100 songs i would be on top of the world afterwards. and please please lets not forget that this is a vote of the MOST POPULAR songs not a definitive list of the BEST SONGS.
  3. music is completely subjective. when you have half a million people voting on something you're obviously going to get a massive variety of music. no list of songs will ever satisfy everyone. initially people were complaining that the list is too "classic" then came the Gen Y bashing and now its too 'random'. what did people expect!!
  4. i thought both #1 and #2 were a bit suss. killing in the name of is a wicked song but no where near the second best of all time, no idea how it managed soo many votes. smells like teen spirit was the obvious choice for no.1 but im starting to get sick of it. other than that i've really really enjoyed the last week of music. just in response to some of the criticisms of the list. U2 arent in it because they've lost that alternative music fan base down here over the last 6 to 7 years. in the previous countdown in 1998 they featured heavily. alot has changed in that time. nonetheless the band has polled very strongly in the annual countdowns since 1989. best song countdowns are always going to be controversial, people views can be sooo radically different. i guess this countdown reflects my taste in music very well, almost all of my favourite bands made it on and some like radiohead featured heavily. why is this list so bizarre? i've said this a few times before. alot of the biggest bands who have the most number of hits were at a massive disadvantage as fans voted for a variety of different songs as opposed focussing on one or two songs.
  5. and there's more to glasto than just the headliners. there are over 1000 artists/bands who perform at the festival so judging how good/bad the festival is has little to do with just the headliner/s. i've never been to glasto but im sure its not just the line up which makes it the best music festival in the world.
  6. i guess its a personal preference. usually i only go on to listen to a full album after i've found 2 or 3 songs i like. and in reality is inevitable, a majority of bands put out at least a couple of tracks before the album comes out. if you want to ignore them then thats fair enough but some of us like a little sneak preview.
  7. yeah thats my favourite of the lot.
  8. ever seen John live? or listened to Jonny's There Will Be Blood soundtrack or his work with the BBC.
  9. Jonny Greenwood and John Frusciante are just as brilliant on guitar as a cellist or violinist in a symphony orchestra.
  10. personally i think that track by track is a fake. is that the first review of the album? if it is i cant imagine Muse giving that privilege to some random French magazine.
  11. there has also been a noticeable lack of women in the countdown. there have been 3 Smashing Pumpkins songs who of course have a female member and just then Massive Attack's Teardrop made it in which has vocals from Elizabeth Fraser. just listened to song 30 down to 21 and it has topped everything else but in a bad way. songs i hoped would make the top 10 have already been played, including Alive and Throw Your Arms Around Me. great to see radiohead open their account and 2 songs from Powderfinger. the second of which These Days is my favourite so far.
  12. sorry double post computer went a little beserk. please ignore
  13. shitty recordings? both of the videos i posted up are perfect quality. cornerstone is the actual studio recording and Secret Door is a perfect bootleg. and i actually dont mind a bit of last shadow puppets influence. if they can combine the best of both sounds on the record it would be incredible.
  14. the album has been streaming on the band's Facebook page for the last 24hrs. i'm pretty sure its finished now. i had two listens to the album and i must admit im not all that impressed, maybe its a grower im really not sure. nonetheless there are some awesome bass lines from LJ on it. i really wish Jack would focus on the white stripes and raconteurs.
  15. Daylight has a good bassline. the main attraction towards coldplay for me has always been Chris Martin's lyrics, which i felt were rather weak and uninspiring on X&Y but improved on VLV. i dont want to turn this into an AM love fest thread but i think everybody who thinks lowly of the band should take a close listen to A Certain Romance, take a few listens actually so you can appreciate all the different aspects of the song.
  16. songs 40 down to 31 would have to be my favourite lot of 10 so far. these are some of my favourite songs of all time especially Better Man, Come As You Are, Stinkfist, Enter Sandman and Prisoner Of Society. naturally theres been some backlash to Mr Brightside making it to 38 but this is the entry that im the most happy about. i love the song and dont really care what other people think about it. and a little something i noticed today. out of the 70 songs played so far, not a single hip hop or rap song has made it. despite the fact that the station plays at least 2 or 3 rap songs every hour.
  17. i always thought that In Rainbows went to number 1, i guess i'm wrong Radiohead are massive on the "alternative" scene. that is usually defined by the triple j audience (which isnt totally true but it just makes things easier). Creep came in at 5 on the last Hottest 100 of All Time. Paranoid Andriod was No. 13 in the same poll and Karma Police at No.54. The album of the year poll started in 1999 and all 4 radiohead albums since then have made the top 10, with Kid A topping it in 2000 and In Rainbows was 2nd in 07. if Radiohead dont manage 3 songs in the countdown i will be shocked. but the big problem is that its sooo difficult to choose a favourite radiohead song. everyone i know said that there were about 15 - 20 songs they could of voted for, so the votes are loosely spread across loads of songs.
  18. i learnt something new today. between 2:55 and 2:57 on Hey Jude, John dropped something on his leg during the recording and screamed " oh fucking hell". its hard to pick out in the song but i never knew that haha!!
  19. arhghg what do people have against green day!! just beacuse everything they've done in the last 5yrs has been shit doesnt mean the classic songs they wrote in the 90s arent still freken amazing!!
  20. you are right mate tv on the radio, modest mouse, bon iver, rage against the machine, dandy warhols, placebo, the smiths, ben folds five, underworld, you am i and faith no more are the most mainstream bands in music history. it would of been sooo much better if they had britney spears and the backstreet boys had dominated it. the top 50 has started and aside from sweet child o mine and betterman its an awesome selection of songs. note: the poll closed 2 days after MJ died.
  21. yeah you :) the songs i've heard so far are very last shadow puppets. it seems almost inevitable that the frontman will bring in some influence his side project, happens with every band.
  22. two new songs [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r26sUGInh1w&feature=channel]YouTube - Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYmGcyhBjnw&feature=channel]YouTube - Arctic Monkeys- Secret Door[/ame]
  23. im with TGE on the arctic monkeys being one of the most musically talented bands there. i love the way the two guitars sort of dance around each other and you have the melodic bass line playing over it with matt's brilliant drumming being the cherry on the cupcake. i like a band who are subtle with their musical genius. of course Muse are very obviously talented same with Radiohead. but anyone who has had the pleasure of watching the chili peppers jam would know that there really is no contest.
  24. love the sig!! Crying Lightning is very much a grower. the first single was not the best song on either album so i'm hoping for the same with Humbug.
  25. its mediocre if you go in expecting every track to be as brilliant as Sweet Disposition.
