wasn't sure where else to post this so i'll jump dump this thought here. just been listening to triple j today and its just struck me that i'm finally being to enjoy the one of the perks of being a music fan. when i first got into music pretty much everything was new to me, meaning when i heard a new album by a band i had no idea of what had come before it. that was 2008 but now with the usual 3yrs cycle that most bands go through i'm finally being able to compare a bands previous work to their new stuff. just in the last hour or so they've played the grates, trial kennedy and glasvegas and with each act i've instantly thought back to their last album. its kinda fun. :)

i found myself thinking about this discussion at work today and i kinda came to realisation that part of the fun of being a music fan is getting into these heated debates about why one band is better than another. in most cases it only increases your passion for the music you already like and theres a slight chance you might give the other side a go. and it's kinda nice to see people being passion about music, regardless of what genre it is. it flies in the face of people who think that music isn't significant or doesn't evoke the emotion as it used to be. so as much as i wish things were different. things are kinda alright the way they are now. i would love to know what people think of what lupe fiasco has gone through this year. for those of you who don't know the story basically his record label told him he had to make music of a certain type, that being the type that will appeal to the mainstream. this naturally didn't sit well with lupe who has a strong indie following but he had no choice. in "promoting" the album he confessed several times that doesn't like a lot of the album. is this just lupe jumping the gun to dodge criticism for a poor showing or is he just the victim of a desperate record label?

just taking a look at the team real madrid fielded for the 02 final. and wow what a team it was. casillas replaced cesar in goal with the backline including the likes of roberto carlos, salgado, helguerra and their captain hierro. in midfield they were deadly thanks to makelele, figo and zidane and then up front raul and morientes. even on the bench they had talent like mcmanaman, guti and conceicao. and they were stupid to let go of del bosque. apparently it was because he didnt really represent the things the club stood for. edit: leverkusen ended up playing 19 matches in their champions league campaign starting in the qualifying rounds. of course this was back in the day when there were two 6 match group stages.

but don't you think a lot of that segregation is based on image?

so will muse still get to do a full headlining set cos i'm assuming eminem, fooey and cp will headline each of the days. anyways. a really great line up. would love to see my morning jacket, arctic monkeys, DFA1979, lykke li, manchester orchestra and local natives. and how is this a mainstream lineup eddie? after the headliners (show me a decent sized festival without a mainstream headliner) its all indie/lesser known acts.

it's sad how that happens. same thing happened with me and the klaxons. i thought their debut was just brilliant then i heard the sophomore release and was really let down so now i rarely listen to the debut. i know it's still the same music but i perceive the band in a different light now. but if a band manages to string together 2 or 3 solid releases before making a shit one, i can still remain interested a la coldplay.

the decentralisation of music is a really awesome thing. it's just a shame that many music fans haven't been very accepting of it.

what would've been made that perfect is if they did a bit of a reprise and went back to the main riff at the end.

well i for one absolutely loved the album. i think it was no.3 on my 2009 best of list. probably my favourite album to put on in the middle of the night when everything is quiet in the house. i'm very curious to see where they go from here. if they make another album based around minimalism they will probably be shunned for recycling. so they probably need try a slightly different genre. maybe an acoustic based album?

yeah i'm a big fan of no frills live shows. big reason why i love pearl jam so much.
