  1. having debt in a company isnt always bad. at the moment around 40% of man utd's value is debt. but because their assets and equity amounts to over a billion pounds man utd could if they wanted to erase their debt quite easily but they choose not to because their debts are seen as investments which give them strong returns so erasing the debt would mean losing those investment hence losing those returns. man utd could sell old trafford, take away about half a billion pounds and erase a bulk of their debt but they would be losing the returns that structure is providing the club.
  2. ive got the feeling he was a little drunk that night. its unlike jack to explode like that. still he has nothing on the Great Man Axl Rose. God Bless His Soul.
  3. im in a very Stroke-sy mood tonight so i feel like saying them. anything jack white related will have me there or anything dave grohl related. interpol would be wicked but they dont seem very BDO-ish. you might want to get rid of the chem bros from your list. they're doing Future fest in march. daft punk can sell out a 30 000 capacity show in 30 seconds so i dont think BDO will appeal to them.
  4. here is an excerpt from a review of The Strokes' gig in sydney on the 29th of july thats exactly how i feel about the band, exactly what i wrote in my length top 20 albums of the decade post in which Is This It came in at no.6 for me. i find it so hard to justify why i like them so much other than, they are effing awesome!! with all this strokes talk and in honour of lizzy and jackies sacrifice and bloodshed in the name of rock n roll. i'll listen to Is This It and Room On Fire back to back tonight :)
  5. he has a radiohead fanboy accent.
  6. im doing summer school this year so it will take a very good line up or a very good headliner to get to spend a whole day there and the next day recovering. very good headliner means something bigger than arcade fire.
  7. you left out the most important thing. was she hot?
  8. so what was the rest of the set like? did the crowd calm down a little? did the band encourage people to behave? the strokes did a big fest here about a week ago and i heard that they were regularly telling everyone to look after each other. i had a similar experience in my attempt to get close to Muse at a festival down here. it was 40 degrees that day so the arseholes ran out of energy pretty quickly so things calmed down after a bit. i wore a white shirt that day, even after about 7 washes it still has a murky grey colour on it from all the sweaty bodies it rubbed against that day lol. i've put that shirt aside forever.
  9. ^^ do you usually judge albums on first listen? it usually takes me 5 or 6 full listens plus several listens of the better known songs.
  10. here is a radio doco about radiohead put together by triple j music director richard kingsmill, who is a massive massive fan of the band and youcan hear that in his voice and his words. http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/music_specials/s1392573.htm there are a number of others on the webiste worth checking out.
  11. the BBC compared it to ok computer http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/nm4z it falls well short of that mark imo.
  12. ^^ yeah you're right but when you pit it up against songs like wake up, neighbourhood #2, intervention, no cars go and the like. it's not quite as impressive. at least, from the point of view of a lot of the dissenters, it's not as good.
  13. not surprised with this reaction. i guess thats often the problem with "concept" albums. the band focuses heavily on creating a certain sound or vibe over the whole album and in doing so fail to create a focal point or true highlight on the album. therefore it fails to leave a strong impression or impact on the listener. on top of that, they've chosen a rather dire, bleak theme for the album, that being the suburbs and even though i think they've conveyed that concept to perfection over 63mins it was a poor choice of theme especially for a band as grandiose as arcade fire. in regards to nobody really caring if this was their debut. i agree but how many bands do we know made a concept album for their debut? its what you do when you have an established fan base and critics madly in love with you. to be honest the album did fall short of my expectations ( i was expecting something to match ok computer :laugh3:) i still think the album is excellent from beginning to end.
  14. wtf is solar? lol future never really excited me much. still beyond me how far down franz ferdinand were at this years event, from memory they were doing the 4pm slot or something. and totally forgot about Laneway, if its anywhere near as good as 2010, it's cya later BDO and hello Laneway.
  15. ^^ i actually really enjoyed a couple of songs from their last album. havent heard any of their new stuff but relatively speaking in terms of aussie hip hop, they're not too bad.
  16. yeah. falls on wednesday and sunset sounds and southbounds will follow soon after with similar, almost identical line ups. not sure when meredith announces its line up. after that its pyramid rock on the 19th. not sure about homebake and BDO and good vibes. are there any other big fests over summer?
  17. ^^ oh no! have gorillaz tickets sold out yet? its impossible to tell with ticketmaster.
  18. Memories by David Guetta and Kid Cudi. it is a genuinely awesome song. we play it at work often and i always find myself dancing involuntarily.
  19. could not have put it better myself. chelsea's spending a few years ago was disgraceful but at least they had a few trophies to show for it. man city will always be the 3rd best team in manchester no matter how much they spend. man united spent very very little money over the last off season, season before our only major buy was Valencia and i highly doubt it was a big money deal. our last big spend was for berbatov way back in september 2008.
  20. hope this doesnt delay the release of album no.2
  21. aria album charts here is the soundwave festival line up Iron Maiden Queens Of The Stone Age Slayer Primus Slash Social Distortion The Gaslight Anthem Rob Zombie Pennywise Avenged Sevenfold Thirty Seconds To Mars Stone Sour Gang Of Four New Found Glory Sum 41 that is an incredible line up and im glad at least soundwave is sticking to the sound that they are known for. Falls and Falls related festival line ups will be announced through the week starting from tomorrow. i've got the feeling there wont be much left for BDO after all that lol.
  22. just listening to kingsmill on the radio tonight and he mentioned that bliss n eso topped the charts this week, beating eminem. so i thought i would go check out the charts and i was amazed at how well some of our fave indie acts are doing. no.3 washington no.4 birds of tokyo no.5 florence + machine no.6 arcade fire no.8 mumford + sons (which has now gone double platinum!!!!!) no.10 angus +julia alternative music? what alternative music?
  23. ^^ i thought the panics had delayed it to 2011?
