Arcade Fire
do you live in the "suburbs"? what are they like in NZ? i think a large part of the reason why i love this album so much is because i feel that i can relate to it directly having spent the last 20yrs living in the suburbs. they have encapsulated the sound perfectly on the album.

^^ i think he meant 2010 albums only. and its missing Cloud Control.

Arcade Fire
this album is looking like a 9.0/10 for me but still doesnt feel like album of the year for me. there are a couple of others just ahead of it.

Radiohead
not sure if anyone has ever posted this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asqFSCySFck&feature=player_embedded]YouTube- Radiohead at Glastonbury 2010 (HD)[/ame] the bit in between karma police and fade out is very special. i wish aussie crowds were more like that.

Richard Ashcroft - Solo Work & United Nations of Sound
Richard Ashcrofts Half Song Set Richard Ashcroft was scheduled to appear at this year Splendour in the Grass in Australia. He appeared on stage but walked off half way through the first song without any warning or reason. Today his management issued this statement. the rumours say that he stormed off because the crowd wasnt as big as he expected it to be. ashcroft's set clashed with mumford &sons and the pixies.

^^ you wont regret your decision. this is the band they will be talking about for decades to come.

Arcade Fire
was really hoping they would give it something closer to 9. but an 8.6 at least keeps arcade fire in that esteemed group of bands who have maintained critical success over several commercially successful albums.

The 2012 Motor Racing Thread (F1 & More)
never thought i would ever see webber at the top of the championship so far into the year. with the new point system consistent podium finishes doesnt guarantee you keep the top spot so mark really needs another couple of wins to put some distance between him and hamilton and vettel.

http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/arcadefire/thesuburbs after 15 reviews the album is averaging a score of 86 out of 100. funeral averaged 90 after 33 reviews. and neon bible got 87 out of 100 from 46 reviews. the big one im waiting for is the pitchfork review.

Laura Marling
i'll keep an eye out for it. but i didnt see many mobile phones in the air. as most of the crowd seemed to be over the age of 35 haha. this was actually the first time ive been to a non-rocknroll gig, so i was amazed at how low the sound was and how easily laura was able to converse with individual people in the audience.

Arcade Fire
Sydney Morning Herald's music guru summed up his take on the album in one paragraph. Unlike its sometimes gloriously florid predecessor, Neon Bible, this album is short on galloping, charged rock songs with dark visions and high emotion. It is, however, more varied. 3 out of 5

JUST GOT BACK FROM THE SHOW!!! would have to be the quickest 70mins of my life. she introduced her now permanent "Laura Marling Band" but she spent more than half of the show by her lonesome on stage. the show was everything i wanted, a great rendition of Night Terror with whistling solo, her crowd interaction is getting better and better, 2 songs from her forthcoming 3rd album and i think Hope In the Air might be my new fave song. i actually needed to leave a little early so just as she started her final song i started walking towards the door so i could get out easy when she finished. but just as i was walking to the exits the security guards pull away the curtains that separated the exit from the stage and that startled laura so she instantly stopped and looked across to the exit which was now exposed and who was standing there pretending not to leave.......ME! she looked right at me (i think) from about 5metres away so i smiled back while the small crowd broke into laughter so stood and watched her until the end. cant wait til she returns. im seeing her bf marcus with his band on wednesday night.

Arcade Fire v Radiohead
personally i think the critics are too in love with arcade fire to hammer this album. im not expecting funeral like reviews but i wouldnt be surprised if they enjoy it more than neon bible. here's the critic reaction so far BBC - better than ok computer Rolling Stone - 4 stars Spin - 4.5 stars NME - 9/10 Sputnikmusic - 3 stars Guardian - 4 stars Irish Independent - "contender for album of the year" ClashMusic - 9/10 The Phoenix - 2 stars - the American Express commercial gradually gives way to a Riverdance special on pay-per-view. musicOMH - 4.5stars Contact Music - 9/10 Consequence of Sound - 5 stars - Final verdict? It’s unbelievable.

Arcade Fire v Radiohead
in regards to you including coldplay in there, i would have to disagree. they have fallen out of favour with the critics and alternative music scene since the disaster that was X&Y, even though they did save face with VLV i dont think they will carry the same legacy as radiohead. whereas arcade fire have been the darlings of both critics and alt music fans and i will be very surprised if they dont maintain that with this 3rd effort. but in regards to interpol + editors i think you're spot on and i would add to that list some of my personal favourite acts like arctic monkeys, yeah yeah yeahs, franz ferdinand and phoenix. if the current music scene wasnt so saturated with urban music (some of which i confess to loving) i think some of those bands would get the respect and recognition they deserve. and with muse. i think its much the same as coldplay. the critics hate them and the cool indie kids think they've sold out. something radiohead never faced and i hope arcade fire doesnt either even as they become one of the biggest acts in the world.
