I think the main reason a lot of people don't respect them the same way they respect Radiohead and U2 for example (both bands with a lot of haters but people respect them nevertheless) is because no one takes them seriously. and its hard to be taken seriously with songs like paradise and ETIAW and VLV and LIJ. it wasn't always like this though. back when AROBTTH was released things were very different. I wish they had maintained their core identity.

yeah their B-sides are some of the most breathtaking songs I know. I'm actually glad they released them all as B-sides because that way we appreciate them more I think

thanks for your insight specially since I haven't seen the movies :) well it wouldn't exist if not for Hunger Games. so which movie its made for is pretty relevant. but you're right the song is what really matters here and if one thinks the movies are lame etc one can forget they exist and think of the song as an unrelated entity

as I said in the other thread I'm super excited for the new song just like everyone else. I'm just saying they've chosen the wrong film. its like doing a song for narnia or harry potter or twilight. they're all the same.

the only problem I have is that they've chosen to do a song for a movie that's aimed at infantile teenagers. they're doing it for the wrong movie. I hope the song is good enough to be taken seriously

very true! old old coldplay sound unlike any other band and still refreshing. I guess thats why so many fell in love with them back then

those two are incredibly good songs. its a matter of taste. if you don't like those two, then you're never gonna grow to like X&Y. still miles better than MX though in my opinion. atleast still sounds like coldplay

they could I don't believe you need to look Disney-friendly or have silly concepts and costumes to set yourself apart from any other band. they should let their music do the talking. plus i think they just wear costumes and have painted guitars etc to look cool. other than that it serves no function. I don't get what the point is

amen! musically, they're past their prime. i don't see them making anything as good as AROBTTH (in fact i'm not sure anyone can). definitely not in the direction they're going but in terms of live performances their prime is still to come. i know the MX tour was spectacular but compared to the unbelievable U2 360 tour and the stones and pink floyd etc they can still improve. A LOT!

only listened to Radioactive (discovered them after the Assassins Creed trailer) and its a damn good song but its being played way too much. maybe i should check out their album
