Random Coldplay thoughts...
Oh its bad from a guitarist point of view! LOL I guess no different than me saying to a violinist I recorded some strings on my electronic keyboard haha I hope you get the chance to learn if it something you would like to :) I still hope one day to learn to play violin hehe

[2015-12-18] Guy Berryman interview with Toronto Sun
The production sometimes I like sometimes I dont. I am conflicted. I often wonder how they would sound with more organic sound and less synth, but then maybe the song would not work (I am thinking of army of one or even Fun). I generally dont think about it much though when I listen to them. I agree with Up&Up, but then I kinda noticed so many Coldplay songs are just better live haha I remember thinking the same about MX and GS, so maybe its just that they are so good live hehe As for the songs they scrap, I think they said once that 90% of what they make they scrap to find the 10% they keep or something like that? hehe So I think the process is necessary to get to the good stuff. But I think you and I and even Chris would agree a "Chris solo album" none would like to hear hehe

Oh dear...blasphemy LOL Yes I did think you´d play it on a guitar when you mentioned the guitar solo hehe And its never too late to learn :) Electric piano is nice to do tons of effects though and also do something like strings or similar :)

Birds - Lyrics Decryption
Hahaha I can definitely hear "from the underground awaaaaaayyyyyyyy with me" hehe I also hear "make our own key". The sentence that I always miss instead or forget cuz I cant hear it is "mean it say loud". He goes full falsetto and then he loses me LOL I must say I just love how Chris enunciates in this song. Each word fits beautifully and I like how rhythmic his singing is here.

Oh thats a lot of fun! I used to do that back during Viva (that was the last time I had a lot of free time LOL). I did play some of MX songs but mostly just on my acoustic guitar. Those guitar solos from Up&Up are bound to be fun! Whats your gear if I may ask? :)

What other songs you like besides Birds? Is it not your cup of tea because its too pop perhaps? And yes the tour will undoubtedly be good!

[2015-12-18] Guy Berryman interview with Toronto Sun
So you´re basically liking your own comments lol Hey nice to find people one can relate to :) I do like the diversity and the discussions, but I probably love even more geeking out about all the Coldplay stuff I like with others who like it too at the same degree of geekiness hehe Hey Gai, thanks a lot for such a nice comment! I think the exact same thing about you, gentle and quite a few others.

[2015-12-18] Guy Berryman interview with Toronto Sun
In case they are peeking through this forum from time to time...A Rush is not my favourite album, just for the record, not everyone agrees on that hehe I´d say I am with Guy on this. I honestly was thinking about that yesterday briefly after I finished listening to AHFOD for the Nth time I thought to myself "hmm is this actually my favourite Coldplay album?" and then I immediately concluded "no its not, I like most of the others just the same because each has a different mood". I would not mind them going back to a rock vibe (we had a few of those on Mylo), but I hope they never repeat any of their albums and that they always strive for something new or a good mix.

Birds (Song and Video out now Jan 2) pg 17 for Vid
I was actually thinking about lyrics today as I listened to Fun and I thought they were just great, all the metaphors about the ocean and the waters, so another song with good lyrical content imo. People tend to focus on 2-3 sentences and ignore all the rest: viewed generally I cant see a dumbing down of anything, what I can see is more elements of fun and even cheeky things (like "cool" in Birds or the very lighthearted "drunk and high") than previous albums, but thats about it.

[2015-12-17] The Voice of Germany Finale
Just saw the video. In my case it is very much because they are monkeys *lol* I just dont like monkeys and I´d very much prefer they´d stayed in the video hehe Now I am starting to wonder if we will see them during the live shows? Oh well I can just focus on Jonny and his killer riff hehe

Parachutes vs A Head Full Of Dreams
This has turned into another "grab the popcorn and scroll" thread lol I agree that of course there is some degree of consensus about certain albums or artists being classics (though critics often disagree with the public and vice versa. They overlap ever so rarely). But even that consensus is subject to a society time and culture so again it's subjective, on a collective level but still subjective. Though I do like to think that if someone in 1700 or 1200 had listened to the Beatles they still would have liked it. Lol I guess we'll never know :)

I totally agree with this statement especially :)

Christmas wishes
Merry Christmas, lads! Thanks for the tears, joy, jumps, dances, reflections, uuuuh uuuuh , bliss, laughter and love you once again gifted me with in AHFOD! I wish that you always follow your heart and that your lives are filled with love, peace and excitement! See you next year on the road! :)

Yeah I agree! I like their explanation, which is very socially aware but also does not end up like a political statement (do this or that, join this or that organisation). Not that there is anything wrong in promoting an organisation or a way of life you believe in, but its hard to pull off without sounding overly preachy

Chris - mental health? persona
Agreed. Most of our thoughts, emotions, etc are not in line with the soul but with our limited self (ego), however as we awaken the soul, we also allow the soul to seep through and have an active conscious involvement in our creations (thoughts, emotions, etc), so that who we are becomes a true reflection of our soul. I think we are ultimately all an expression of the same "soup" of energy (where there is no individualisation), but as souls we each are unique expressions of this energy, with our very own traits which then are unchangeable throughout. And I love Rumi btw :)

They are still the same people imo and they´re still just as concerned about the world as they were before. They just do it differently: AHFOD is a major injection of hope and positivity during a time where the world sorely needs it. Once they used to push things more overtly, like the Fair Trade Oxfam thing, but its very easy when you do that you end up sounding preachy and perhaps even arrogant , shoving things down people´s throat that have nothing to do with the music. (U2 ahem Bono ahem LOL). So I guess its a very fine line to tread. I am very happy with how they do it now to be honest. The links to the things that matter to them are still there to be found and they still use their music to bring something positive to the world whilst not forgetting they are musicians at the end of the day, not politicians.

Why do I dislike AHFOD so much?
I believe he visited during AHFOD and the guys say he´s always with them as a ghost *LOL*

Off topic chats
I expected people to love it, because as far as I could see JJ wanted to re-create the feel and vibe and look of A New Hope, which is basically what most old fans have been whining about for years hehe I also expected reviewers to love it because George Lucas is not involved and they´ve kinda always hated him :) I personally loved both the original and the new trilogy for different reasons. They both have shortcomings and advantages. So Im not gonna love TFA just because it creates the old feel hehe Hopefully its actually a great movie and im gonna love it. I absolutely loved the trailers I´ve seen so far. (hope to get tickets for this monday!)

Hymn for the Weekend
I am pretty sure that is the only video I saw of this song then. I could not find the link on the thread for that concert when I looked now, but I must have seen it somewhere else. Ive not been able to download the Hackney concert yet :/ Was that performance any better than this?
-
Hymn for the Weekend
Great site :) But as far as I know we only have video/audio of one performance? Thats what I was alluding to. Hard to judge from one video only. I could not find any video of Hymn from Paris concert and I dont know where they played it the third time.
-
Hymn for the Weekend
I only saw it being played once. I have to check out the second video then if its available. And I think they pretty much nailed Adventure by now hehe Also Up&up was kinda awesome from the start, some songs are surely easier to translate live than others
-
Hymn for the Weekend
I see your point but I am not sure we can judge from one live performance? (Unless Im mistaken and they´ve played it more than once already?). I remember the live debut of Adventure was definitely not that good either. But yeah I also remember thinking about Hymn hmmm something is not right here, but maybe they just need practice like with other songs? :)

AHFOD Reviews by Music Critics
Yeah I really never made up my mind about whether any critic reviews I read were ultimately useful to me or not as the final recipient of the "product". Part of me thinks its good to have a bunch of people with experience in the branch who can share their opinions about recent music releases and I know artists say that some of the criticism they can actually use to get better, but then I see quite a lot of subjectivity in reviews and some are pretty nasty without any need to be (or overpraising without need to be) that then I go ahh ok I cant really use these things for anything hehe So I am on the fence here. I guess the best would be to find one or two critics you trust and have sort of the same taste as you, and then you can use their recommendations to your advantage, kinda like your preferred DJ in a radio or what have you. Beyond that though I am not sure I ever truly benefitted from the "critic consensus" , some I resonated with, some I really didn't. P.s. Bit off topic, I am nervous about all the fabulous feedback The Force Awakens has gotten so far, I hope its for all the "right" reasons hehe

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Would you let Chris play on one of your records? Absolutely. The man’s a fucking wizard, he’s a genius. High praise indeed from the chief! hehe
