The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Just bagged a pair of GA tix for night 2 at Staples Center in LA. Wasn't very kind of Muse to only give 24 hours notice, but the process was much less painful than that frenzy a few months ago. Two GA Muse gigs within 4 days of each other? What an epic September it shall be. :D Hopefully I'll get Bliss one of those nights.

LeBron James Fiasco
And with that, Miami just became the ultimate love-them-or-hate-them team. My money's on them eventually winning a championship, but not this next year. You can't just slap pieces together and expect miracles. They need time to adjust, especially since James, Wade and Bosh are all used to being 25+ point scorers. Someone - if not all three - will have to sacrifice. But yeah, the city of Cleveland is understandably upset. Personally, I'm just glad this LeBron fiasco is finally over. Now I can go back to not caring about sports news until next season.

Metric
Heard "Stadium Love" today in Best Buy. Between actually getting radio play here in the States and having one of the bigger songs for Twilight, it seems that Metric is getting tons of more mainstream exposure suddenly. I know some diehard fans like their favorite bands to remain obscure, but I'm personally glad Metric is getting this kind of exposure, just as long as the actual quality of their music doesn't slide.

What's your favorite Coldplay-era today?
Agreed. For favorite song, I can see how that could change fairly frequently, but most people's mood swings aren't so wacky that their opinion about an entire era of music changes on a daily basis, especially when there's only 4 to choose from. Mine is AROBTTH era and that doesn't change, nor will it unless a superior era comes along. Not only the best album, but a plethora of B-sides and a live DVD to boot! Wish I was a fan back then.

Kathryn Calder
You know, there are a lot of things that sicken me on this forum, but you know what sickens me the most? Not having a place to post pictures of Kathryn Calder. If you haven't heard of her, it's no surprise, as she's basically the overlooked child in The New Pornographers who occasionally fills in for Neko Case during live shows when Neko is off with her solo touring. Recently, she's been given lead vocals on a few songs. Oh, and she's also Carl Newman's niece, which I guess is pretty cool (although I'd never want to be in a band with my uncle). Neko, Dan Bejar, and A.C. Newman all have fairly successful solo projects, and Calder has recently started her own. She released her debut solo album at the end of June - Are You My Mother? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6641_E9_0s]YouTube- Kathryn Calder-Arrow[/ame] Kathryn has had the misfortune of constantly being compared to Neko Case, especially when she has to fill in for her, but her solo material really showcases her individual talent. Oh yeah. Pictures.

Clocks or Speed of Sound?!
I owe a lot to Speed of Sound. It was the song that got me into Coldplay, which in turn helped me discover plenty of other great artists. That said, I'm going with Clocks.

Roadie #43 - The Life and Times (Blog #5 is up!)
Roadie #43 – Blog #4 July 4, 2010 2:15 PM #43 has a swig of Viva La Vodka Long time, crud buckets! It may not be British Independence that is being celebrated today, but that doesn’t mean I can’t use this as an excuse to get hammered, right? A lot has happened since I went on my last binging spree and decided to interview Chris. Oddly enough, I ran into Chris in The Beehive a few days later, and the fellow doesn’t recall ever being interviewed. I can only assume that he was as delirious as I was. Anyway, I felt I would give you folks an update of what has been going on in the studio before I get too smashed. My sworn nemesis – Miller #42 – seems to have blogged while I was gone. As sworn defender of the truth, however, it is my duty to clarify a few things that he wrote. First of all, #42 wrote about his mornings in the studio with his desk and coffee. Did you read that correctly? He actually gets a desk! And he gets free coffee! Why is it that I have to actually walk across the street and pay for my coffee? #42 also dug into the experimental stages of Coldplay’s upcoming fifth record, which sounds “like it’s arriving from another planet”. I don’t know about you folks, but I completely believe in alien conspiracies, especially when I’m drunk. I fact, I believe I have stumbled upon a sickening truth. Are you ready for it? That’s right. Will Champion is actually an extraterrestrial. How could nobody have seen the signs before? It was so painstakingly obvious. His egg-shaped head that resembles an alien egg. His stare of death that can kill kittens. His unworldly ability to show disapproval of new songs and make Chris cower in fear because of it. I will be probing this development in the coming months with the help of my know-it-all alien investigation team, consisting of former X-Files actors and the members of Muse. Rumor has it that Will is scientifically brewing an alien formula for immortality, but like Guy’s love potion and Chris’s hair tonic, it’s merely in its premature stages. But I know most of you are far more interested in the new songs. Some of you have intelligently deciphered #42’s song title hints – “Moments” and “Up”. Rest assured that – like with Viva’s demos – these are just two of possibly a hundred potential song names that may or may not be used. I can confirm that “Moments” is a special song that Chris has dedicated to Jonny Buckland. Sure, both men may be happily married now, but every now and then the two will have “moments” when one will accidentally stumble upon the other in the shower. (Chris claims he never looks, but shower security tapes say differently. For the record, rumor has it those are Jonny’s security tapes.) “Up”, meanwhile, is yet another song about how Chris’s feet won’t touch the ground. Of course, Jonny is the only one of us who actually knows what Chris’s feet look like, and he says Chris walks on air, so we believe his lyrics. How are Guy Berryman and Phil Harvey doing, you ask? Well, Guy still needs your old photographs, so keep submitting them! I believe he is still holding out for the one photo that looks like a 70-year-old version of himself. That way he can create a convincing fake ID out of it and use it for senior benefits. As for Phil, he can’t wait for Guy to actually turn 70 so that he can become the most handsome member of Coldplay. (Phil remains convinced that he is invulnerable to aging.) In the meantime, it’s back into the “studio” for me, which is really just a fancy way of saying that I need to head back to the liquor store. And to all you Americans, have fun celebrating! I’ll be drinking with you in spirit! R#43

PHOENIX
IMO, Phoenix is one of those bands where it's actually not a bad idea to start recent and work your way backwards. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is not only fantastic, but very accessible. From there, I'd steadily head one album back. Also, I missed the chance to get tix for Santa Barbara Bowl, which is basically my backyard (okay, it's 20 minutes from my backyard, but still). Bah, I've already seen them once this tour, so I'll live.

Rate the latest movie you've seen
Eww, I recall the 10 year olds in the theater laughing their heads off while I was just rolling my eyes. I didn't see the sequel, but I heard that one was somehow even worse. Also, I'm upgrading my Toy Story 3 grade to a 10. I initially docked a point for under-use of new side characters, but now that I think about it, it's still the main cast we're supposed to care about the most.

Sleigh Bells
I know that "Tell 'Em" is being promoted as their big song, but I don't like it at all. In fact, I find this song to be much better: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLRnmQ-4Yp0]YouTube- Rill Rill - Sleigh Bells[/ame]

Because I can. :P Also, because Will is the perfect scapegoat for all of Roadie #43's nasty doings to Coldplay.com
