Who else is sick of the stereotypes surrounding their home state/nation/whatever?
Oddly enough.....*looks at Mad Hatter*.....Jamie Oliver's first season of "Food Revolution" was filmed in Huntington, WV. I hear ya about state stereotypes being more troublesome than the nation's. I grew up in Oklahoma and you'd be surprised how many people thought I lived in a teepee or knew someone who did. When I went to college in Arkansas, I actually had someone from California on AOL chat ask me if I had running water and dirt floors. I mean...WTF?!

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Just saw the Breaking Dawn tracklist. Okay, I'll be honest, I was bummed Muse wasn't on there. Granted, the movies are subpar...extremely subpar, but the soundtracks have been pretty good. I hadn't heard of most of the artists on there. No Coldplay and no Foo Fighters. Natty, you're 0 for 2! haha I LOVE USofE. It's very Queen-esque.

Radiohead
Just saw the Colbert performances and wow...just wow. Bloom was....incredible! That song is so rhythmically diverse and each part is so independent that there is such a high level of possibility for FUBARing it live, but it was flawless. Say what you will (if you aren't a fan), but as a classically trained musician myself I have such a high level of respect for the music Thom and crew put out. There is such complexity and texture, not to mention that they challenge their listener with music that is so cerebral. I completely appreciate it.

Radiohead
Yes! I remember watching both those on SNL and thought they were amazing! As for SNL 2011, mmmmm....didn't care for Lotus Flower to be honest. :\ Kind of bummed about it. It's my favorite off the album before Separator and Bloom. Staircase was incredible, though!!

Paradise Covers
Ooo....adored this one! It's simple...not a lot of fill inbetween notes, but he really captures that driving bass with his octaves in the left hand! Really, really loved it! @RobertPeetersPiano - I loved your version, too! I shouldn't have added that "ugh" part. It was rude of me. If you like the piano slides then you should keep them. They just aren't my style. :) ETA: The guy/guitar cover.....*sigh*.....he says its off their 4th coming album. Why are people getting this confused. Even Letterman announced it was off their 4th coming album! It's their FIFTH album, people! Geez!

Radiohead
Hey, I heard Radiohead was going to tour in 2012 so I came here to see if you all were talking about, but you're talking about Atoms for Peace. Is only Thom going on tour with AFP or is Radiohead going to be touring? I'm confused.

Is This the Most Hate?
^ I hate the word, emo, too. I couldn't think of a better word at the time. Sorry. :P I'll admit...when I first saw the written out lyrics to Paradise, I cringed. Alone they aren't anything spectacular by any stretch, but when you add the chord structure, instrumentation, and ambient effects, it creates a listening atmosphere. There are so many facets to music, especially music with words. I'll quote my cousin here, because even though I was peeved with him at the time he said this to me, the more I think about it the more sense it makes. I was complaining about lyrics from a song from a movie many years ago and he said to me, "Geez, if you want words that mean something all the time, go read poetry!" After that, I've had a different take on music lyrics from any and all bands I listen to. I tell myself, "it doesn't have to be poetry. Sometimes the lyrics aren't what is featured in a song." Does that make sense? It probably doesn't. I've only had one cup of coffee this morning and I'm still tired.

Is it just me or is this entire era starting to feel...depressing?

Is This the Most Hate?
I think you state your points very well and I respect your opinion. I want to speak to this point I highlighted, though. The qualities you love about their older music as you listed come from music where the artist is trying to put into words their emotions and feelings. I think it's a fact that Parachutes and even AROBTTH are indicative of Chris when his life was in an upheaval of sorts. So, he was dark. He was broody. And that came through his music. Why can't music with a more positive vibe and hopeful message be relevant like the more....uh...emo stuff? Who says that it has to be full of angst and sadness to be poignant? Again, though, Tryptophan...you have good, solid points. :) We shall agree to disagree. :D
