  1. It's 8:30am here now and still no sign of the album from emails. I call this a bit of a fuckery. They've said 'sometime today' which means it could drop in our inboxes at any time. Which is kind of lame considering I am at work for 12 hours today and was kind of hoping to hear it properly.
  2. As I've said before, I'm going to agree with the rating that NME gives it because staggeringly... That's quite a good number for a very popular band that is not Kasabian/Noel/Liam/Damon Albarn related by NME standards. However, my qualm still stands with NME who don't actually review anything. Almost 75% of the text there is reviewing/moaning about Coldplay (which they will always do and they don't really miss an opportunity like that) and even when they do 'review' the album what they say constitutes absolute tripe anyway. Per normal NME proves how irrelevant they are in music. Because as per normal they have self important arseholes who are bitter and cynical of the music industry doing what they do best... That is trying to suck the joy out of it for everyone.
  3. *delurks* New Muse albumn :awesome: Something good better come out of it though or I'm totally going to stop following bands over long periods of time. They only seem to mash up your heart. And I like Assassin, but it took me a whole while to like it because I didn't get it at first, you know?
  4. Yeah. I feel dirty. I feel the need to bash them on their articles more than the average day.
  5. As much as it pains me to say it..... I agree with NME in this instance.
  6. I thought it was weird when I heard about it... But seriously? I am so confused what sort of even slight relevance it has. And also, if that is the elephants family-- it's in an all male herd which rarely/never happens. /realisticsciencenerd I really do enjoy it though. It's brought a smile to my face and I really can't stop laughing at it. A mediocre song saved by a slightly quirky video.
  7. I'm awkward and would say it's a 6.5/10, so on the above I've voted 6 because I'm cranky and have decided to round down :awesome: It's only the second half of the album (excluding PoC) that saves the album for me. Otherwise it would be a mediocre attempt at a mediocre genre-spanning (and failing to tick any of the right boxes) album. I spoke to Max McElligott of Wolf Gang last night and Coldplay happened to come up in conversation (probably relating to how NME and I have beef) and he said that 'Para-para-paradise is trying to appeal to the mass American market because they have a habit of repeating parts of words like 'umbrella-ella-ella''. And he also said that if he was going for a mass American market, that's the sort of gimick he was sure he'd be advised to use. I kind of don't want Coldplay to stop recording. But at the same time if it is like this, or worse, I'd rather they did just call it a day now.
  8. It's not as if I'm not going to get the physical album when it comes out. Sheesh, calm down. No one is forcing you to do it.
  9. I've listened to it twice so far... It was better than I expected after everything we've been put through (I was expecting it to be a waste of megabites tbh). But it's not Coldplay's best work at all. Everyone that has termed this a masterpiece are probably the same type of person that would term 'The Resistance' as Muses' best album or something (oh I'm stereotyping, get me). I'd say that it is their worst album to date; but it's still significantly better than what a lot of artists are putting out these days. I feel that in the context of the album Paradise and ETIAW do work; but they didn't work as stand-alones which makes me question who thought they should be. There aren't many tracks on there I think you can take out of context and make work... Apart from the obvious-next-single 'Princess of China' (or maybe Charlie Brown, but I doubt that will see the light of day as a single release). They did something to completely break Hurts Like Heaven for me. Like they looked at it and went 'oh, not enough production' and shoved on some alterations in the voice. I think I would like HLH a lot more if I hadn't heard what it was live-- because now I feel like some of the shine has been taken off it. At least though, I know that when I see it live that those 'touches' won't be there. Charlie Brown into Us Against The World sounded a little weird-- except the piano outro of Charlie Brown makes it work. And it's my favourite part of this album segment by far. M.M.I.X = pointless 40 seconds. Not even a slightly interesting instrumental. Feels like filler-- or like you might need those seconds to compose yourself from going from something as lovely as UATW into ETIAW (the only similarities in those songs being the abbreviations containing similar letters). Major Minus completely jars the flow of the album because I don't think that's an appropriate change over from ETIAW. I don't think anything is except maybe diving off a cliff (I sound like I'm writing for NME or something now). Still prefer the live version of it-- don't think I'm liable to change my mind anytime soon. And I would've preferred to see Moving to Mars in here instead even if that didn't flow either. U.F.O is probably one of the best things to come off this album actually. Even if it is just an little piece. It's beautiful and I get goosebumps listening to it. It's gorgeous and once more there are glimmers of classic Coldplay in there that's actually sublime. Ahhh Princess of China, something that worried me most about the album. You know what? It's not as terrible as I had been thinking it could turn out to be. I do feel like there is an excessive amount of Rihanna on it and not enough Coldplay (as I feel even the instruments get lost under the production on it). I don't think I would be half as affronted by it if it were released in some other context opposed to on a Coldplay album. I think this could've been on something like the MX equivalent of Prospekt's March. It would be much better if Chris sung the 'could've been a princess' segment or something. Just anything to dilute the fact that it's almost 3 whole minutes of Rihanna. It's the final four tracks that actually make this album for me. I love every single one of them, they're beautiful and sublime. And they're more to what I had expected from this album. Despite the repetitive chorus in 'Up In Flames' I find it really endearing and I can see it being one of those 'let's have a moment to all get our phones out and Coldwave again'. I reckon it will be beautiful live. I'm going to be a little pre-emptive of 'Don't Let It Break Your Heart' and say that I reckon in a few years it will be one of the only things from MX that will remain in a Coldplayer's heart (and still be on a setlist). I feel like it has that vibe. And with Up With The Birds; the daftness of the title is so misleading. It's such a beautiful song to end on. Overall if I could judge the album on the last segment I'd give it a 9/10 (maybe even a 10/10 because it's that stunning). But because you can't and there's more to the album than those tracks, the shine has been taken off... I'd say it was a 6.5/10. Solid, nice enough album... But not the masterpiece people have been calling it and there have been far better albums this year.
  10. If I thought Paradise and ETIAQW were radio friendly then I was sorely mistaken in comparison to this. This is radio friendly, this is the song most likely to be a number one of Mylo Xyloto-- this is going to be the next single. It just oozes it. The review/article that said that Rihanna didn't sound like Rihanna in this track was pretty... Off the mark. Yes, she sounds less nasal than normal, but it definitely sounds like her. I don't think you could confuse the voice even for a split second. Something I do have to confess is that her voice does fit on the track and work well with Chris's which is something I really thought it wouldn't. I thought it was going to be the clash from hell, so it's nice to be proven wrong on some accounts. But my major qualm... This sounds like Rihanna ft. Coldplay. It doesn't sound like it is something that should be on a Coldplay album because it's pretty much 4 minutes of pure Rihanna. The song will serve them well in the charts and culminating a new fanbase in this modern market. But for me... It's too much Rihanna, not enough Coldplay (and I did prefer the live version-- call me whatever you want for it, but it was far superior in many ways even if it did lack a female vocal). 5/10
  11. I didn't know there was a Just Jack thread :awesome: I love him. Saw him in Brighton a couple of years back now when he was touring for All Night Cinema (which is so cool). He laughed at me there because he started doing a mini-rap of Life Stories and a lot of the audience looked confused and I freaked right out and starting singing along properly. And Jack was all like 'All of you out there are looking at me really confused, except for her (pointing at me). I think she knows my own song better than me' and then he started laughing. One of the best things ever.
  12. Ohhh. Awards. Pretty
  13. Hahah. We wuv you Michael and we're really waiting patiently for your Wolstengoodies.
  14. ^ Surrreeeee ;) Someone sounds a little afraid.
  15. Awkward. Nah I keed. I keed. We all know what you're like with the Wolstenbadass. Most of us are just the same with other members of Mooze/other bands.
  16. Brilliant review, I feel like I was there. How stylish an award ceremony. Aww Ed Sheeran. I never noticed he looked like Phil :awesome: It must have been nice to see him considering he is amazing. And congratulations everyone, it was very well deserved!
  17. Hey Coldplayers. I'm Natt. :awesome: I'm a student of Molecular Medicine in my final year :|
  18. I kept trying to find words in that, my brain thought I had to. Originally I thought it said shower (where I've bolded) and dat ass (where I've italicised). Oh brain.
  19. I'm so glad that I am :awesome: I almost died thinking that they may end up on there. I mean what even Michael, those pictures have made me feel tonnes better man. Yay.
  20. I lurk. I heard Coldplay are on the list too... As are Foo Fighters. I feel some sort of combination of sickness and disappointment in my system
  21. To be honest, these days I expect nothing less from NME. When I'm in a terrible, snarky mood and start ripping in to bands/music, I feel like their staff. They choose staff that are really cynical and twisted about the music industry, encourage them to be as mean as possible just for the sake of it, write reviews that aren't reviews (not just this one, but in a general sense) and be deliberately scornful of anything remotely popular. The only people they ever seem to like in the industry are any of the ex-Oasis members (basically Liam and Noel keep NME.com running), Kasabian (understandable because they are decent, but not the be all and end all), Wolf Gang and their new poster boys (suddenly after months of NME dismissing them) Bombay Bicycle Club
  22. ^First come first serve like every concert. If you want a good spot, you will have to get there early.
  23. ^I had a massive issue with the o2 site too! I expected them to have resolved the traffic issue after their Foo Fighters pre-sale chaos. Normally I have problems with Ticketmaster, but it was much easier this time around. And RE: show length... I think curfew at the o2 is 11pm (that's the curfew for most events)
