BREAKING NEWS: Michael Jackson's death a homicide, coroner rules // Conrad Murray found Guilty of In
Michael Jackson's doctor sentenced to 4 years behind bars LOS ANGELES (AP) - The doctor who was convicted in the overdose death of Michael Jackson was sentenced to the maximum four years in prison Tuesday in a finale to the tormented saga of the King of Pop. Dr. Conrad Murray sat stoically with his hands crossed as Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor repeatedly chastised him for what he called a "horrific violation of trust" while caring for Jackson. "Dr. Murray created a set of circumstances and became involved in a cycle of horrible medicine," the judge said. "The practice of propofol for medicine madness, which violated his sworn obligation, for money, fame prestige and whwatever else may have occurred." Pastor said one of the most disturbing aspects of Murray's case was a slurred recording of Jackson recovered from the doctor's cell phone. "That tape recording was Dr. Murray's insurance policy," Pastor said. "It was designed to record his patient surreptitiously at that patient's most vulnerable point." Michael Jackson's family told Pastor they were not seeking revenge but want the doctor who killed the superstar to receive a stiff sentence that serves as a warning to opportunistic doctors. "The Bible reminds us that men cannot do justice, they can only seek justice," the family said in a statement read by attorney Brian Panish. "That is all we can ask as a family, and that is all we ask for here." The statement went on to say, "We are not here to seek revenge. There is nothing you can do today that will bring Michael back." Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a six-week trial that presented the most detailed account yet of Jackson's final hours but left many questions about Murray's treatment of the superstar with an operating-room anesthetic as he battled chronic insomnia. Lead defense attorney Ed Chernoff highlighted the accomplishments of Murray. "I do wonder though to what extent the court considers the entirety of a man's book of life, as opposed to one chapter," he told the judge. The doctor decided not to directly address the court. Chernoff again attacked Michael Jackson, as he and his team frequently did during the doctor's trial. "Michael Jackson was a drug seeker," Chernoff said. Jackson's death in June 2009 stunned the world, as did the ensuing investigation that led to Murray being charged in February 2010. Murray told detectives he had been giving the singer nightly doses of propofol to help him sleep as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts. Propofol is supposed to be used in hospital settings and has never been approved for sleep treatments, yet Murray acknowledged giving it to Jackson then leaving the room on the day the singer died. Murray declined to testify during his trial but did opt to participate in a documentary in which he said he didn't consider himself guilty of any crime and blamed Jackson for entrapping him into administering the propofol doses. His attorneys contended throughout the case that Jackson must have given himself the fatal dose when Murray left the singer's bedside. In their sentencing memorandum, prosecutors cited Murray's statements to advocate that he receive the maximum term. They also want him to pay restitution to the singer's three children - Prince, Paris and Blanket. It's unlikely that Murray can pay any sizable sum, including the $1.8 million cost of his funeral. He was deeply in debt when he agreed to serve as Jackson's personal physician for $150,000 a month, and the singer died before Murray received any money. Prosecutors said the relationship of Jackson and Murray was corrupted by greed. Murray left his practices to serve as Jackson's doctor and look out for his well-being, but instead acted as an employee catering to the singer's desire to receive propofol to put him to sleep, prosecutors said. "The defendant has displayed a complete lack of remorse for causing Michael Jackson's death," prosecutors wrote in a filing last week. "Even worse than failing to accept even the slightest level of responsibility, (Murray) has placed blame on everyone else, including the one person no longer here to defend himself, Michael Jackson." Murray's attorneys are relying largely on 34 letters from relatives, friends and former patients to portray Murray in a softer light and win a lighter sentence. The letters and defense filings describe Murray's compassion as a doctor, including accepting lower payments from his mostly poor patients. "There is no question that the death of his patient, Mr. Jackson, was unintentional and an enormous tragedy for everyone affected," defense attorneys wrote in their sentencing memo. "Dr. Murray has been described as a changed, grief-stricken man, who walks around under a pall of sadness since the loss of his patient, Mr. Jackson." http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/jackson%27s-doctor-to-learn-punishment-for-death

What's the weather like today in your town?
Yeah and the government would probably use the excuse, "oh but we'd have to change all of the speed limit signs and the 'distance to destination' signs across the entire country, there's not enough money in the budget to do that." But umm... wouldn't that create oodles of jobs?

So, is it a live performance, or just a pre-recorded performance that will air on NYE? (i.e., the one recorded a couple of months ago)

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh suspended for next two games Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been suspended for two games without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct during the game on Thanksgiving Day. The NFL issued the following statement: NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks notified Ndamukong Suh today that he has been suspended without pay for the Lions’ next two games for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving Day. It was Suh’s fifth violation of on-field rules in the past two seasons that has resulted in league discipline. Suh may not practice or be at the team practice facility for any other activities during the two-game suspension. He will be reinstated on December 12. What's the weather like today in your town?
Indeed. 5°C here. We've been getting so much rain here lately, and it's been raining for 12 hours straight (again), and will likely continue raining non-stop all day. There are flood watches and warnings in the area. Oh, but it's supposed to turn to snow tonight... we could get 3-5 inches. That should make for an awesome Wednesday morning commute. :|

[24-Nov-2011] Little Noise Sessions St John-at-Hackney, London, UK [Chris and Jonny only]
Great review, thank you Laura! :nice: I'm sorry, I don't understand why venue (well church, whatever) security didn't do something about that lady. If you don't want to "remove" her, at least take away her tambourine. It was clearly disturbing the musicians, something should have been done about her. I don't get it.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
This was definitely my best Thanksgiving ever. EVER. Even though I was scared that the guy on the megaphone was gonna throw me over the side of the boat if I mistakenly released the balloon due to my fingers being numb and no longer feeling whether or not I was actually holding on to the balloon... it was still the best Thanksgiving ever.

Radiohead
ha ha WOW I like the last bullet point under "Warnings" at the bottom: "Don't be an elitist jerk." Might want to check out the advice I got from a similar thread I created earlier this year, it definitely helped. http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75178 Personally I'd say start with In Rainbows. Even though I've only listened to them for less than a year, one of the things I appreciate is that it has opened my eyes to other genres of music that I never would have considered before. Variety is the spice of life... I think Life in a Glass House IS shit. I think I once said, "it makes me wanna punch the sh*t out of a random inanimate object." I mean it, it makes my skin crawl. :| I pretty much love the rest of the Amnesiac era though. I think it's my next favorite after In Rainbows.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving to y'all. Had a couple bites of turkey, mashed taters and gravy, a little stuffing (had too much sage in it for my taste), and omnomnom homegrown corn. I made my awesome Oreo fluff for dessert, so I didn't bother having pumpkin pie. Need. To. Take. Nap. toodles Still doesn't beat last year's Thanksgiving though. Nothing will.

ITV: Coldplay confirmed to perform on X Factor Final on Sunday 11th December at Wembley Arena
How did you respond? (Other than the note on the previous page about not disguising disgust.) Do you think the look on your face was like "fffuuuhhhh...." I suppose maybe the name of the thread should be changed from "UNTRUE" to "TRUE" now.

NFL 2011 - 2012 Season
Yes, we always play the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving (or so it seems)... I'm looking forward to this lovely little tradition in a few hours. :D GO LIONS!!! :ROAR:

So once Thanksgiving is over...
I'm not going to wait until Thanksgiving is over; I'll listen to it on Thanksgiving as a reminder that last year was my craziest, BEST THANKSGIVING EVER.

Hitchhiking through Ohio
lol don't knock it, downtown is actually really cool! I was just down there last Friday for a concert. Went there for Monday Night Football earlier this season. Electronic Music Festival on the riverfront during the summer. Really, downtown is great. Oh yeah, and this summer we'll have Grand Prix racing on Belle Isle (little island on the Detroit river).
