  1. Radiohead Arcade Fire Wilco U2 Coldplay
  2. There should be a smiley for this.
  3. Thats sounds cool too. ^ Honestly though, I really don't care what they do, as long as they do it soon. I'm pretty Easy to Please. ... YEEEEEEEEAH!!! :awesome:
  4. Reign of Love = ROFL :awesome: ... Oh yeah, and I agree almost 100% with the above poster. :smug: However, I feel that the new tracks are quite good, especially Charlie Brown. I'm most excited to hear Princess of China though...from what (little) we can hear from the videos, it sounds like it could have been on Viva. :o
  5. Yes, that would be awesome. But no, I don't think they will do that. There's really no logical reason why they should.
  6. I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and predict that it will in fact be on LP5 with the rest of the debuted songs (except for Every Teardrop). And it's gonna be awesome.
  7. The bit after the solo synth break is SO intense! :D There's that funky electronic scream and then the massive Ancient-China-sounding drums kick in at full force (2:19 in the first video). Also, the main melodic line - the bit that Chris sings after the aforementioned synth-scream - reminds me of Wake Up by Arcade Fire. And that's a very good thing. :P I have to say, I'm looking forward to the studio version of this song more than any other of the new ones. Even though they're all great.
  8. I don't understand why everyone thinks that the five new songs played (not counting Every Teardrop) will not be on the album...? The album's only months away...does everyone really Coldplay would start playing throwaway songs that they won't end up releasing?
  9. I now have a full interpretation of the song (a story, based on the song and building on the other songs we've heard so far), but I won't be bothered to type it out. It's too darn long. At least, in my head, the song is something more than I originally though. :3
  10. I think we assigned Major Minus the name Up With the Birds because we didn't know what to call it at the time, and that seemed a likely one. It seems quite unlikely now that we've heard the full version that Major Minus is actually an the same song as Up With the Birds. After all there are absolutely no references to birds of any kind in the song. I think we have yet to hear that one, actually.
  11. Perhaps. But I'm thinking no. This song seems to fit with the White Rose/protest theme of LP5.
  12. Do you remember any of the lyrics for PoC? As far as I can tell, they're not great. "You can be a princess, I'll be a king?" (or something along those lines).
  13. So I was thinking about it, and I now feel that this song is more than a sappy "i luv mah muzics zo im gonna dance" song. Some of the lyrics seem trite, but there seems to be a deeper meaning (to me). I feel that this song has something to do with the joy of protesting something and finally being recognized, even in a negative way. Many people would gladly spend a night in jail if it means getting their beliefs across. This song brings to mind protests against racism/war/for educational reform in the 60's. People would get beaten up, humiliated, and degraded by authorities, but they wouldn't have it any other way. I think this song says that in the joy of that moment, everything seems larger than life. Every (police) siren is a symphony, and every teardrop (of physical pain, perhaps caused by a beating from security?) is a beautiful waterfall. "You can hurt me bad, but still I'll raise the flag." ... I don't know. My head is a messy place, make of this what you will.

If I remember correctly; when Daniel and his friends were brought into Babylon to be the king's servants, they were supposed to be fed rich wines and meats because the king believed this would make them stronger. Daniel and his friends refused to eat these rich foods, however, asking to be fed on grains and water instead. After some coaxing, they struck up a deal with the food-server-dude (he was afraid that he would get in trouble if Daniel & company ended up being weaker than the others because of their different diet). It was decided that they would eat grains and drink water for one week, and if they were any weaker than the other men on the "normal" diet, they would have to live on the rich foods instead. At the end of the week, they were far stronger and energetic than everyone who had been eating meat/wine. So then everybody started eating grains and drinking water. As far as I know, that's the only connection Daniel has to alcohol.
  15. There's no time signature change in Cartoon Heart, is there?
  16. We don't know that at all, actually.

Fairly sure that these are the correct lyrics, but this is just what I hear. Don't take my word for it. === They got one eye watching you And one on what you do So be careful who it is you’re talking to They got one eye watching you And one on what you do So be careful what it is you’re trying to do And be careful who it is _?_ walk with you And be careful where you’re walking into view Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you They got one eye watching you And one on what you do So be careful ‘cause my friend, this is true But don’t believe a word It’s just us against the world And we just got a turn to be heard I hear those crocodiles ticking ‘round the world I hear those crocodiles ticking, they go ticking ‘round the world Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you I hear them climbing the steps I got my right side by you, on my left _?_ Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you Ooh-ooh-oooh Got one eye on the road and one on you === As for the song itself...I'm thinking it's like a combination between a love song and a protest song. I mean, the narrator is warning someone that they're being watched wherever they go. Things are dangerous, the "ticking crocodiles" are getting closer. Both the narrator and his partner are participating in some sort of dangerous protest movement (putting up graffiti? :P). "It's just us against the world, and we just got a turn to be heard." Though it could end very badly for both of them, instead of keeping his whole attention focused on the protest movement ("the road") and watching out for just himself, the narrator is keeping one eye on his love with the intention of protecting her. Or something...? I don't know, I can never put my thoughts into words. :embarrassed:
  18. I think you're thinking of a constellation because they sometimes include "major" or "minor" in their names to distinguish them from similar constellations of different sizes. :D I'm not sure what it means, but it's sure interesting. I can't wait for some interviews about all these songs.
  19. This made more sense in my head, but I guess a full stop gets more attention than a comma, which is simply passed over as another part of a sentence. The narrator doesn't mind being passed over without recieving any attention, as long as the "sentence" (ideas/beliefs of a movement?) can continue on. I don't know. I feel like this is one of the few lyrics within the song that could be debated, making it one of the only good ones. The other one being "maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes." I also like the imagery in "cathedrals in my heart," no matter how cheesy it is. I feel that this song has something to do with the joy of protesting something and being recognized, even in a negative way. Many people would gladly spend a night in jail if it means getting their beliefs across. This song brings to mind protests against racism/war/for educational reform.
  20. Certainly. This is the best I've heard from Coldplay since...quite awhile.
  21. I very much disagree in that I think the Viva era lyrics far surpass those of Parachutes/X&Y (Fix You, anyone?). A Rush of Blood had some pretty good ones (Politik, Amsteredam, Clocks, and especially the title track), but even most of those weren't exactly great. The lyrics on Viva (with the exception of 42 and perhaps Lost!) were actually pretty good (still not anywhere near great). As for the new songs, Cartoon Heart has some of the best lyrics I've heard from them in quite awhile. Cohesion...hmm...I actually find Viva to be quite a cohesive record. Just because every track doesn't sound similar (like Parachutes or X&Y), it doesn't mean that the album as a whole isn't cohesive. It just means it's more diverse. Besides, the whole point of Viva was to document life in all its highs and lows, joys and woes...and I think we can agree that life isn't exactly uniform throughout. Finally, I can understand people not liking U2 (I personally love them). HOWEVER, I think we can pretty much agree that Chris Martin's lyrical highs will NEVER compare to Bono's lyrical highs. EVER.
  22. A couple things about the lyrics. First, for the first line, I hear "I stole the key." I think this makes more sense than "a," "the" implying that the narrator of the song (most likely a teenager) stole the keys to a specific car, probably his parents,' as opposed to some random key. Second, I am quite sure that instead of "when they smashed my heart into smithereens," I hear "when they smash my heart." This also makes more sense, because the future tense matches up with "I will be a bright red rose" in the next line. Next, I'm fairly sure that it's not "light a fire, light a spark. I hear something else ("find a spark?"), although I'm not sure what it is. Make your own deudctions here. Finally, I'm not totally sold on the "spinning room" and "innocent liar" lines, I feel they could be something else as well. Anyway, here's the lyrics as best as I can figure. Charlie Brown I stole the key I took the car downtown where the lost boys meet I took the car downtown and took what they offered me To set me free I saw the lights go down at the end of the scene I saw the lights go down and they’re standing in front of me My scarecrow dreams When they smash my heart into smithereens I’ll be a bright red rose combusting the concrete Be a cartoon heart Light a fire _____ spark Light a fire, a flame in my heart We’ll run wild We’ll be glowing in the dark All the boys, all the girls All that matters in the world All the boys, all the girls All the madness that occurs All the highs, all the lows As the room is spinning, oh (?) We’ll run wild We’ll start glowing in the dark So we saw an innocent liar (?) We’ll be glowing in the dark
  23. Something about this whole debate is just incredibly irritating... Also, Death and All His Friends is awesome.
  24. Imagine and Wonderwall are terribly overrated, though I still enjoy both of them. That said, the fact that ETIAW is anywhere NEAR Paranoid Android is simply embarrassing.
