*sticks head in through the door* A Spell A Rebel Yell and Daylight are so good, okay (Or I might just have a thing for weird Chris vocals) *runs away*

What would you change on AHFOD?
^ I was 112% on board with the album for the first two tracks. I was even pleasantly surprised at how much I liked Hymn ('cept for the lyrics)! And then of course we've seen what I would change after that :P

What would you change on AHFOD?
Scratch my response. This is the correct answer

oh my god i'm crying at chris's expression in the second one

What would you change on AHFOD?
-Fix the darn production on pretty much everything. For instance, boosting the mids on Up&Up and let it build more naturally from that sort of thin and empty sound it has into a rich, full sound like at the end of Glass of Water. Bring forward the last guitar solo, tweak the drumwork on the first half, etc. -Make Chris rewrite literally all of his lyrics on Hymn, Amazing Day, Adventure (okay, he can keep the two "dream" lines), and Army of One. -Get rid of X Marks the Spot -As lennyrott mentioned, do something about the song flow. Between the disjointed themes and the songs that honestly bounce all over the place in terms of style, tempo, atmosphere, etc. this seems to be Coldplay's most "album made up of nothing but singles" yet. The Indian and '80s influences as the era was dawning seemed very promising, but other than the disco vibe on Adventure, none of them seemed to appear anywhere at all?

I remember a lot of the forum being totally on board with LP5's direction after Rock am Ring (myself included). It sounded like it was going to be Viva with just a splash of pop--just enough to make it interesting. I remember playing that god-awful recording of PoC on repeat for months because what little I could make out just sounded awesome. It's unfortunate that MX turned out the way it did. As long as that summer seemed waiting for October to roll around, that was probably my favorite stretch on the forums :(

I haven't encountered anyone like that either (even outside the forums). Granted, there are always those who only know about ASFoS, Viva, Paradise, etc. but I don't think those really count :P

Birds (Song and Video out now Jan 2) pg 17 for Vid
Ahaha I love this. Has a very indie-pop feel, just like the song itself. I wish the guys would do more simple videos like this :wacky:

^^ Let 'em have their thread. We got one for our opinions, so why shouldn't they? :P As an Oldplayer, I doubt I'll be visiting here much, but I wish you all happy discussing! Here's one of my favorites from the MX era :nice:

I just want another "serious" video for once! We've gotten several silly ones in a row now--time for a change :P

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
^ It's starting to lose some of its sparkle for me also. I started out thinking it was an okay album--better than GS and MX--but now the only songs I listen to are AHFoD, Birds, Kaleidoscope, and sometimes Up&Up and Fun. I'm forever saddened that the rest of AoaL isn't as good as that fantastic riff.

^ I agree. I know I just said Gold Rush was one of my favorites from that era, but the truth is that I can say that about at least 10-12 others. It's truly crazy how breathtaking some of those songs are. Like, who would have thought that little ole Parachutes-Coldplay would have the guts to write something like Chinese Sleep Chant? They nailed it with the balance of their "classic" sound and experimentation. Team "make another album with Jon Hopkins and Brian Eno as the producers and no one else"

Oh man Gold Rush is probably one of my favorite songs from the Viva era just because there's so much non-musical stuff going on in the background. It sounds like all the guys just came into the studio one day in a really good mood and just went "screw it, let's have fun with this." That's how you do a happy song right.

They praise their "not so good" albums to high heaven, but when they make a true masterpiece all they do is talk it down! No comprende

Parachutes vs A Head Full Of Dreams
Round 1:Don't Panic vs A Head Full Of Dreams Round 2: Shiver vs Birds Round 3: Spies vs Fun Round 4: Sparks vs Everglow Round 5: Yellow vs Hymn For The Weekend Round 6: Trouble vs Adventure Of Lifetime Round 7: High Speed vs Army Of One (lol two of my least favorite Coldplay songs, how fitting) Round 8: We Never Change vs Amazing Day Round 9: Everything's Not Lost vs Up&Up (don't make me choose gah. U&U wins only because Noel Gallagher) . . . Well I guess that's a good way to break the tie in my album rankings Parachutes: 7 AHFoD: 2

^ I actually rather like the poem! I was hoping one of the guys was going to recite it though (fingers were crossed for Guy, but I think getting him to tackle audible vocals is always going to be a pipe dream lol) On another note, I was listening to the X&Y instrumentals this morning and I was just so blown away by all of the little details they put into that album. I don't listen to X&Y often, which is odd considering it's my favorite after Viva and ARoBttH! How I miss all those little things like the almost-imperceptible bass kick+hi-hat combo underlaying the piano of Fix You during the final verse :(

Remake the AHFOD using Newplay songs
1. A Head Full of Dreams 2. Hurts Like Heaven 3. Birds 4. Moving to Mars (+ Aiko as a hidden track) 5. Up With the Birds 6. Fun (feat. Tove Lo) 7. Major Minus 8. Adventure of a Lifetime 9. Kaleidoscope 10. A Hopeful Transmission/Don't Let It Break Your Heart 11. Kaleidoscope 12. Up&Up -- I'm actually intrigued by this. No idea how well it flows though lololol Gonna go make a playlist EDIT: lol @ the transition from Birds to MtM I'm officially playing Aiko after MtM every time now hnnngg

^ I believe it wound up debuting at #2, the first Coldplay album to miss out on the top spot! Granted, it lost out to that monster of an Adele album, but I can't help but think that an album the caliber of ARoBttH/X&Y/Viva could have beaten it out

===The Ultimate Oldplayers' Music Thread - Music that Oldplayers will like===
^ My life would be complete Chris, if you're not going to write lyrics like you used to anymore, at least take inspiration from this guy: "Out of the mire we were torn from Remember Out of the fire again But I’m an ember I hold a banner for you But it’s upside down You got a question or two But I’m tongue tied now"

===The Ultimate Oldplayers' Music Thread - Music that Oldplayers will like===
So much great music in this thread! I just discovered an artist named Andrew Belle--his album Black Bear sounds a lot like what I hoped Coldplay was going to dive into after Viva. A bit of dreamy, experimental work. His lyrical work and voice are just gorgeous in this one: "Oh I swim in a violet sea But I’m bending the light connecting you to me So write a lettre de marque and see Oh if this dark matter heart can bleed out right"
