  1. I don't dislike the kind of sound MM is bringing, I just think it's waaaay to repetitive and the solo that is the second half of the song doesn't thrill me.
  2. Of course it fits them. They are them. You can say it doesn't fit you, but what is released today is Coldplay as they are, just not as you wish them to be.
  3. Glastonbury
  4. MX/Hurts Like Heaven Princess of China Up with the Birds Major Minus A Hopeful Transmission Paradise Great Expectations Us Against the World Charlie Brown Up in Flames Golden Arrow Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall Tomorrow MX/Hurts Like HeavenHeaven - Intro to our main character and the issues he feels are oppressing him Princess of China - Meet the love interest Up with the Birds - Couple grows together/falls in love until..... Major Minus - The sinister oppressors of the story, creates conflict and possibly separates the lovers A Hopeful Transmission - Main character finds out about a resistance, pulls out of despair Paradise - Main character is told the vision of the world where the oppressors are deposed, imagines that world with the love interest Great Expectations - Preparations and excitement in organizing the resistance Us Against the World - The calm before the storm, recounts the earlier love story Charlie Brown - The uprising begins Up in Flames - The best laid plans of the resistance crumble, the love interest appears gone, all is lost, until... Golden Arrow - Main character does something unexpected that turns the tide, maybe not what was expected but something good Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - The celebration and aftermath of the resistance, reunion of the lovers Tomorrow - Closing track where the new world is explained and idealized with the love story complete I think that could be a plausible story for MX
  5. Based off what we've heard i'd be more inclined to say that MX is probably the closest to rock that they have been yet. More guitar heavy, faster beats and melodies. Yellow is the only thing really close to being rock on Parachutes.
  6. Coldplay always has been and always will be a pop rock band. Parachutes, whether you want to admit it or not is a pop rock album. It's not the bubblegum crap that is Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, but it is pop rock.
  7. Why on earth would people think they are the same band as when Parachutes came out? When Parachutes cam out they were a band on the rise but still hadn't made it yet. They weren't married, they were in their early 20's, no kids, less money, etc.... Now they are married, have kids, are maybe THE biggest musical act on the planet right now, are in their mid 30's, are far more technically proficient, have far more freedom from their label in terms of creativity, etc.... People change, expecting them not to is futile. Not to mention if this was the 4th carbon copy concept of Parachutes coming out now, it would be incredibly boring and old hat.
  8. Wedding Bells is dead. Not only were lyrics incorporated into Christmas Lights, so were several piano themes. Unless there is a serious rewrite on it, it is gone forever.
  9. When I heard "bold anthem" I thought of something in the mold of 'Dream On' or 'Stairway to Heaven'. Start off slow and melodic and gradually rise to sonic thunder.
  10. Live by a mile and I really don't even like the live version that much. Unless i'm listening to the album start to finish i'll skip MM more often than not.
  11. The sun rising tomorrow is questionable if you really think about it. I'll be shocked if HLH is not on the album.
  12. I think they were just reiterating that few things are 100% certain with the album at this point and they will be tweaking it up until the very last minute possible. I'll be genuinely shocked if HLH isn't in MX.
  13. It'll be on there. This would be like saying Lovers in Japan wouldn't have been on Viva or The Scientist not on AROBTTH. And it's not like Life in Technicolor II where it was a work in progress, HLH was pretty much a finished product 6 weeks ago AND it was opening their shows.
  14. 13 songs / 42.5 minutes = roughly 3:17 per song. Hurts Like Heaven is over 4 minutes, Major Minus is 3:30, Charlie Brown is a little over 4 minutes. Point being, one of those figures is going to be wrong. What could make sense is that they aren't counting the "hidden" tracks in that 42.5 and the album is actually a little over 50 minutes.
  15. How do you know you are glad? What if Paradise is 3 of them playing the kazoo and Guy saying Paradise in a monotone voice in 114 different languages? Just saying you don't know if you'll like the song or not at this point.
  16. It's my favorite Coldplay album cover, even if the name is blah. Viva was just recycled artwork, X&Y was just colored blocks, A Rush of Blood to the Head was interesting but not particularly enjoyable and Parachutes is plain. Album Cover rank: Mylo Xyloto A Rush of Blood to the Head Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends Parachutes X&Y Album Name Rank: A Rush of Blood to the Head Parachutes Mylo Xyloto Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends (would have been 2nd had they picked one or the other) X&Y Album Music Rank: Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends A Rush of Blood to the Head Parachutes X&Y Won't rank Mylo Xyloto until I listen to the album all the way through. Case in point being AROBTTH has more highlights than Viva but I think Viva is the better album.
  17. The Duke replied to tauiwi's topic in Paradise
Looks like they were holding something back from the festival shows afterall.
  18. I like it better than X&Y and I pretty much don't care. And it is no more silly than naming an album after 2 seperate songs on the album. Everyone is going to refer to it as MX anyway, it seems like the band itself already just calls it MX.
  19. Agreed, I have it around 5 or 6, I keep flip flopping it with Politik Clocks (live version, so much more energy) Fix You Viva La Vida Yellow Charlie Brown Politik Life in Technicolor II The Scientist Lovers in Japan Hurts Like Heaven Pretty sure that is how I would have my top 10 right now, but it is ever changing.
  20. I can't judge the album until I can listen to it all the way through. I did listen to about 30 of my favoriteColdplay songs at work today though with CB, HLH, ETIAW and MTM mixed in (Can't stand MM, don't care for UATW and won't listen to PoC until I can get a clear version) and i'd say Charlie Brown was top 5-6, HLH was in the 10-12 range, ETIAW was in the 13-15 range and MTM was in the 20-23 rangeso that is pretty promising. As far as the first four albums: Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends A Rush of Blood to the Head Parachutes X&Y
  21. They are all in pretty good shape. I could see them with another 5 in 12 which would put them in their mid 40's.
  22. I was listening to Charlie Brown yesterday and I almost wonder if it is not a finished product. Does anyone think they may add a chorus to go with the songs main theme? I think one could fit in pretty easily and while it may not be as extensive as Viva's, I think one could be in there when we hear the studio version. If not, fine, I still love the song and I doubt that it isn't a finished product at this point, I just think it potentially could be there when it is released as a single before the album comes out.
  23. I'll agree the live version is better than the studio one but I don't really even care for the live performance of it. If it makes the album, unless i'm listening to the entire thing through i'll probably just skip this more often than not. 4
  24. If it gets to the point where there are 4 themes, at that point there would not be any theme and it would merely be a collection of songs and not an album. A cohesive album can have a couple deviations but not to that extent.
  25. Totally got it. Unless Coldplay had announced they were doing a Childrens album, I wouldn't have fallen for that. ;)
