Huh? As far as I know Time Rice-Oxley (the pianist in Keane) was the guy they got their name from? I believe he was in another band called Coldplay and they quit. Chris even asked Tim to join their band.

[2016-06-24] Coldplay @ RTL Late Night (Dutch TV show)
Dat is best wel raar, niemand van hier.. Oh English :) I found 3 fans on twitter (by searching coldplay rtllatenight) that won, they seem to be pretty young.. Hope there is a good mix of old and new fans...

Goodnight Sweet Prince, the Artist known as Prince has died
Even though I havent listened to his music that much, I love many songs. My boyfriend at that time, took me to his concert. I was so blown away, I went to see him for a second time. He's the best performer I've ever seen, just out of this world, he could do it all. His concerts were so mesmerizing and magical. Goosebumps and flashbacks listening to his songs.. Thanks Prince! may you now RIP.

So, will they now play a Prince song instead of an older song, newer song, or David Bowie song... I wouldnt mind them trying some funk! :guitarist:but I suppose it would be a stripped down acoustic guitar version anyway. RIP Prince! One of the most unique performers ever, saw him live twice.

No God put a smile/Violet Hill/Politik/Major minus/square one.. just completely nothing a bit rocky. Not even (1 of their best energetic and 'new' live songs) pop/rock Hurts like heaven.. All the 'louder' songs are either stadium anthems or party/dance songs. So what's left is ballads, acoustic and party/anthem. The requests are great, but thats' different every night. I wish they would put something like Square one/ghost story/see you soon/one i love + at least 1 of their rockier songs!! in the every night setlist. Give us something else... ow please! Where is the diversity with this tour?

The best concerts are those with variation..

wow, just wow. That's performance with impact and a (give me) real message. So good. So, you're making this video especially for this song, and then just kick the song out of the setlist.. :dizzy2::huh:

Agree! Where on earth is the rock song. God put a smile is one of their highlights and brings variation/edge. Omg trouble, how I would love to hear that one live.. And dont forget the scientist. They didnt play it at the first show. They should never throw that one out. There is 1 'newplay' song or whatever you want to call it that I thought would be in the setlist and thats hurt like heaven. It's one of their most uplifting and good live tracks with great vibe/energy, jonny's guitar playing + good live singing. It was a great opener on the mx tour and now this song would perfectly represent a energetic/uplifting show. They should play this track instead of every teardrop. This setlist needs some changes. I watched birds live.. I like that song, but live it doesnt really work, the singing is just like army of one, not so good.

In my place. Hmm, okay... Theyve been playing that song like always in every tour i believe. I thought this request thing is for the songs that they haven't been playing for a long time, or at least not any song that has been stuck in the setlist for ages. I love in my place, but this doesnt make any sense to me. They could play Amsterdam, Square one, Ghost story, X&Y, trouble, high speed and yes strawberry swing... sigh!... I know the fans choose, but if a song like this is the most requested one, they should go with the next song.

WOW, it still actually is hard to believe comparing it like that. How is it possible for a band to change so much. There is quite a lot of love for this army song. Sorry, but it's just all boyband to me. I'm actually seeing a couple of guys doing some kind of smooth slow RnB dance in a OMG video on this song. Can't see this song in any other way. LOL

Hmm, only 1 'surprise' song they added themselve (Politik) No violet hill or God put a smile!!: god put a smile is such a highlight where they show how to rock. Really did not expect them to leave it out. No Scientist? That's makes it feel really incomplete :bigcry:

I'm going as well. and I am looking forward to it. I would love it if they would play mostly older songs.. if they would just play a rush of blood to the head OMG.. (instead of Hymn guys?.... :braces:) But I like to confess that I also like the fact that they, like no other band/artist does, give you this addictive positive energy:bliss::loveshower: Lol! Now Im hoping they wont play that X song, Im bringing a friend who is not really an allround music fan, now that song would just be emberrassing.

I understand. To me it feels like a bunch of songs put together. It doesnt give me this idea of bandmembers writing together in the studio, jamming and trying, exploring, until they have the sound/vibe/flow for the album, it doesnt have a feeling of a real creative process and it makes me think of: "give me fake, don't give me real". This album could be better with better recording for sure. We need a band to re-record this album, only real instruments. That would be interesting :)

Just watched it and yeah, not exactly impressive, but the whole song just isnt.. lol it's top 40 boringness to me. With many other (mostly older of course) songs, when they perform them live they just give this extra-ness, and it brings out the best in the song/music. Also, his singing seems to be more off these days.. Usually because he's jumping/dancing like crazy, but with this performance he already started not so great while just sitting in front of his piano.. it's getting uncomfortable to listen at (sorry cm!). I think their poppy songs are too pop-perfect, these type of songs especially the RnB influenced songs need to be sung radio-friendly-perfect. Chris is a great singer, with a very unique voice, but it's an emotional type of voice. He's doesnt have the type of voice/vocals to sing these pop perfect melody's. And that's too bad, because this is what people are seeing from coldplay now, on tv on an award show. They will think he's a bad singer. Their older more (soft) rock/pure/raw music has much more 'space' for emotional vocals and just anything extra to make the music come alive, which makes everything so much more interesting. And that's what make 'organic' bands so interesting to see live. That's why songs like hymn are zzzz to me. Ok, I will now listen to Politik 2003 live which is just 1000% perfection.

I have been a member on this message board for 13 years. Sell outs...
Hmm 99%. really? I don't think that most indie bands want to be like coldplay at all. They want success, tour all over the world, maybe a hit now and then and a steady group of fans but not be so crazy big that they're losing respect/dignity. They dont want to be called left shark or whatever. Also you can become a very big band without making sugary pop music (like U2). Yes, a lot of money goes to charity. But I also believe many other celebrities do this. I understand anyone who loved the old coldplay and thinks they're not great anymore, just like the rest of the top40 music. I think no other band has changed like they have. I actually think no other bands has lost so many fans like they have. But saying he should lose his voice is a bit extreme. Mr Martin is a very nice guy and so are the other guys, CM went through stuff and this+people in his life influenced his songwriting. He changed and the music did as well. But there still is good stuff left: what do you think of these songs?: ghost story, moving to mars, us against the world, oceans, all your friends, midnight..

One of the 'newplay' songs I love. As soon as that gorgeous piano starts, I just need to listen to it. The unique atmosphere, production, guitar solo <3 Even though the chorus is a bit repetive, the song is creative, it takes you away and feels unique, to me at least.

Never really paid attention to the superbowl, but okay what on earth was that all about.. one artist slaughtering the other, and then afterwards being called left shark / loser? Are we really talking here about a performance or did I miss some battle? What kind of circus is this? I liked their setlist, didnt expect it to be quite oldplay-ish. I expected the show to be all about their latest big poppy hits. How can it be, they didnt even play their new single they recorded with miss B. They get to perform with her but decide to not play it? I can only imagine CM being completely over the moon to be playing that song with her. The decision on that, sure was not Coldplays. Coldplays performance was clearly about love, harmony, togetherness etc. B&B’s thing (especially Beyonce.. that song OMG) took that vibe away, and made it all about their wild show. The UP&Up final didn’t make the impact they wanted, too short after the B&B show. Like others in this forum, I also realised it’s not really their place and they are different from these huge pop stars that are performing. Of course blending a bands performance and huge dance show is not really a very good idea anyway. But these American pop stars carry this attitude and it’s so far from what nice Chris martin is about and his performance is. Chris is just himself on stage, a very happy guy connecting with people in the crowd, he’s not an act. It was a weird kind of contrast, those 2 worlds together. Coldplay will always be seen as this ‘nice’ soft rock/pop band. And they indeed have become too big for their own good. I can’t imagine they are not really affected by any of the crap about them. I mean, yeah they made it to the superbowl halftime show, but was it really worth it. Is this really what they wanted their show to look like I wonder.

Oh absolutely. "Less Is More" I think the best advice to give the band, for their videos and music. That was their strength: leaving stuff out, just pure, simple and organic.

Yes, very beautiful video when you mute it. Miss B could just wear some more clothes in some parts. The problem I have is that you see this beautiful culture, Indian colors and people, atmosphere.. I dont want to hear 'drunk and high so high' over that or any typical top 40 song. It doesnt have anything to do with what you're seeing. It's just killing the whole culture vibe, completely missing what the video should be about. You need beautiful intense and good music for a video like this and also that's clearly influenced by India.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Oh I'm sorry! Didn't want to make you sad. But yes, it is quite sad. It seems that classic Coldplay will be pushed to the background, the more big pop tunes they come up with. Their older musics lyrics could also be interpreted in different ways. Now it's just so straight to the point, simple, not much to discover. Just as with the music, the instrumentation, the songs structure and production, songs like Fun and army of one could be by any pop band/artist. These songs bring me back to when I was listening to many pop groups as a teenager. It's so strange putting the song a rush of blood to the head next to one of those 2 songs. But yes, of course there are exceptions. And then there are the good songs that are just kind of murdered by the production. I made one album from all their 'exceptions' in itunes from their last 3 albums, which I really enjoy. I also dont really mind a few guily pleasure songs, I enjoy every teardrop is a waterfall. A band should be allowed to have some fun, absolutely, but this last album clearly says to me they want to keep on having fun. But then in between they come up with midnight and ghost story and atlas too, songs that pull me back. Songs that let me still believe they someday will make something better.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
haha sugary goo of disney rainbows! I wouldnt say since VLV, but since MX. VLV was a very refreshing album. I remember being overwelmed by the title track and just by the whole album, the diversity and great production/instrumentation. Its also an album where they reinvented themselves after the not so original x&y (<- which I love btw, that's when i started listening), which made them stay relevant, I think. Overall they were respected a lot more and it was just still a very interesting band. Already for the masses but one of the big bands with such excitement around them. Sigh.. How I wish they were still that band.. And now their steady fanbase is shrinking. The music is not really anything to be really passioned about. So fans are not really going over and over talking about it. The concerts will be huge, but most people there are going because they are the biggest band in the world, they just want to be entertained with a sky full of stars, adventure, vlv, paradise. Just the hits they bought on itunes. These people will not become passioned fans looking for all their music, b-sides, bonus tracks, ep's, live performances, past etc. Its too bad they dont seem to care about this. Why don't they want to challenge themselves anymore. They are still quite young. How can they feel challenged writing songs with 'oh you and me we were always meant to always meant to beeeeee'. What exactly happened after this?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=ru8iY_sIHf0;m=1;s=30
